    Saying something is too big is relative. I think the capacity is perfect for my EDC and it’s also perfect for travel as I always take a small carry-on rolling luggage when flying, on which this sits perfectly with the luggage pass through.
    So versatile. My all time favourite backpack. Honestly, it’s the only backpack I need, and I have many backpacks that have been collecting dust since getting this.

    I absolutly agree with your comment about the lack of strap keepers. Evergoods have them on their Mountain line so I don't understand why they don't use them on their Civic as well.

      Especially for $300. It's made overseas so I expect perfection at that price and there's no reason not to include something that simple and standard.

    So I picked this bag up myself. Originally I was on the fence about it and finally decided to bite the bullet. Honestly after a couple of weeks with it, it made its way into my closet. Overall it feels a bit boring. I started using my Yeti Crossroads 27 and for some reason I prefer this more. If feels a bit more rugged and low profile to me, maybe because the lack of external water bottle pockets? idk.

    I really want one right now. It looks like the perfect pack for me but I’m going to hold off until they releases a mirrored version. That would nearly perfect it for me.

    • @ChrisCarries_EDC
      @ChrisCarries_EDC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve seen them say on Instagram and TH-cam (they replied to me) that a mirrored version is not planned for the CTB26 as it was mainly a thing for the CPL line. But I guess that could change, and if you’re not desperate for the pack then maybe worth waiting if it’s a dealbreaker

      @@monicawilson896 I believe the term "mirrored" only exists in this niche carry community and I never heard of another similar case than Evergoods and their customer. They initialy made bags with compartments that have one side access and some people insist other side would be more convenient. And Evergoods actually listened.

    Hi Chris, thanks for the review, really helpful. I’ve ordered one also but with trepidation about the size. On paper it’s pretty similar in dimension to something like the Bellroy Transit Workpack but it looks much bigger. Please can I ask how you feel about taking this on budget airlines (e.g. EasyJet, which stipulates 45x36x20cm for personal items, and this is 19x8x12” according to Evergoods)?

    • @ChrisCarries_EDC
      @ChrisCarries_EDC  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! Generally when I travel I notice people with big backpacks (that would definitely be bigger than the allowance) on flights but I have not ever seen any member of staff check them. I think they are more focused on people taking small wheeled suitcases on board. That being said, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a huge pack on board (e.g. 5.11's Rush 24) as then it would be quite obvious. At the end of the day it's a risk you take... when I travel with the CTB on budget airlines I will try not to pack it out so much, so I can make it look slimmer and lighter.
      One way around it is to use a compliant backpack but then bring some extra stuff in a plastic bag or tote bag. You blend in with people who've done some shopping at the airport that way, and with the women carrying both a backpack and a handbag.
      You could also try being one of the first in the queue to board, as the plane isn't full at that stage, so they are less likely to be anal about backpack sizes. On occasion I have actually had my backpack over one shoulder, or carried it in my hand, with my jacket over it as well so as to obscure its size. Carrying it in hand when going through to board increases the distance between the agent's eyes and the pack, so it may seem smaller to them. Then again maybe I've just over-thought this lol!

      @@ChrisCarries_EDC thanks Chris, appreciated. All good points. To put it another way, does the CTB 26 ‘feel’ like a large pack? I get the sense there’s a disconnect between its formal dimensions and how it feels.

    How well does the bag stand up if it's only partially full or empty in the main compartment?

    • @ChrisCarries_EDC
      @ChrisCarries_EDC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It stands up pretty well in those cases, but if you unbalance it with stuff in the front pockets of the bag (and an empty main and laptop compartment) then it may want to fall forward

    Nice video! Been eyeing this one as a blend for EDC and small travel for like 4-6 days. Have you tried the CPL28 or the Aer Travel Pack 3 Small? Both seem to be 28 L, but the CTB26 seems to pack as much as the Aer TPS or more. Does the 2 liter really make a ton of difference?

    • @ChrisCarries_EDC
      @ChrisCarries_EDC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I haven’t tried those bags, but the CTB does manage to take a lot. In general 2 litres isn’t huge (think CAP2 as a reference) but I believe EG attributes a litre/close to a litre to each water bottle pocket, so the rest of the bag is 24l. And that includes the 2 top access pockets.
      Also the CTB’s laptop compartment is quite deep - so a different 26l bag with a much slimmer laptop area might have a bigger main compartment. For example the GORUCK GR1 26l seems like it’s 95% “main compartment”.
      So if you mainly have packing cubes/larger items then you might be better off with something like the GR1, but if you want to organise and separate things a bit more, and you have several smaller items, then that’s where the CTB really shines.

      @@ChrisCarries_EDC great, thanks for the help! Yeah, I kinda want one where it has a nice mixture of both for main compartment and organization in other pockets. I think it’s definitely between the CTB and CPL28 now

    Great review. Only issue I have is you twice say it’s a perfect blend of EDC and travel, but then immediately seem to contradict that by saying it’s almost too big for EDC and too small for travel.

    • @ChrisCarries_EDC
      @ChrisCarries_EDC  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I said it might be too big as a "pure EDC" or too small as a "pure travel" pack - but if you want to have just one bag to cover both scenarios then this is a pretty great option IMO. I think that's what Evergoods have gone for with this bag but they certainly have better options if you are looking just for an EDC bag (e.g. PLC20) or a huge one bag travel pack (e.g. CTB35). Of course it all depends on what the individual wants to carry. Some people have quite a lot of EDC stuff for example. ANyway thanks for your feedback!

      A lot of folks do more than babysit keyboards all day. Or they need EDC plus gear for their kids. I know folks that even EDC up to a 30L. You also have to remember capacity is relative to the brand. 26L one place is not the same as 26L another, as stupid as that sounds. Each company measures slightly differently so they don't often match one another despite listing the same stats.
