  • On this episode of Budget Build Garage Nick shows you how to install an oil pan properly. But this isn’t just a oil pan replacement video, we’ll show you the process of installing high volume oil pump on a big block, and you’ll see us installing one piece nitrile gasket for oil pan that will keep prevent any oil leaks on the V8 Chevy Big Block 454 cubic inch engine.
    This procedure is almost identical to the Chevy Small Block or any other V8 engine.
    Nick also demonstrates how to check the clearance from the oil pump pickup and the bottom of the oil pan.
    The oil pan kit we use in this episode is: www.summitraci...

    Every time I see that 66 I can't help but think of how cool it'd be to come down with my 67 and go to an event of some sort

    I had a machine shop rebuild my 454 and they used a multi piece gasket that has failed. Now I will use one of these.

    Cool video. Got one question. Is there any advantage to multi piece gaskets?

      Not any advantages that I have found. If someone has one I would like to know too.

      Not unless I have to. That job is a pain. If you are planning on doing one in a car it is the only time I say it's ok to not use a one piece gasket.

    Do you need a gasket for the bottom of the timing chain when you use the one piece oil pan gasket?

    I bought a dead horse. 1978 Chevy c-20 454 . Replaced the tanks, lines and fuel pump because of rust issues. 1 month later my fuel pump fails. I take it off and the arm has 0 spring tension. Just flops around. Any idea what I should be looking for, or is this a typical issue with that fuel pump ?

    Just for future reference, .. 12ftlbs=144inlbs.... Plenty of inlb torque wrenches out there.

      It is a good idea to have a inlb torque wrench. I've done this enough times to know by feel. This things been on the road for a while and doesn't leak.

      @@BudgetBuildGarage I figured it was fine. And do do almost everything by feel. But I know a LOT of people don't realize the simple math for inlb to ftlb lol so I threw it out there for anyone reading the comments :)

    That seems like a decent pan but its pretty expensive. Do you think it is worth it?

    • @BudgetBuildGarage
      @BudgetBuildGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was a bit worried about it at first but once I got it and checked it out I would say it is worth it.
