But, although I agree that the brother may have had issues to allow that to happen, I think the issues are less “why am i attracted to horrible women” and more “what genjutsu did this woman use to make me not see her for her true self from the start”. It happens to the best of us, and it’s probably because she was able to bait him with what he craved most at first (sex, warmth, a safe space, etc.), blinding him from all the negative that came with it. Women are master manipulators, and if you’re not hip to their game it can happen in an instant. So this isn’t to say that there aren’t decent women around, it’s just that that’s probably what he thought he found in her, and didn’t realize otherwise until much later.

As I listened to Bill tell this story, I felt like I was listening to a story on how my life used to be. Other than the business debts, it's almost identical. I got out of it and my life has completely changed for the better. I came out of the divorce not owing her a dime (fortunately, my kids were all adults, so I didn't have to worry about them). I've been divorced for 4 1/2 years, have not had any desire to date, and have no plans to ever get married again. There is a downside to my decision, but the benefits outweigh that.

So I was with a horrible person for about 10 years also. She had a daughter when we met, dad wasn't around, so her daughter became my daughter. Sooooo many red flags but I stayed for the little girl. Eventually me and the mom got married because she was pregnant. I tried to do the right thing. She didn't cook much. Didn't take care of the baby, didn't take other daughter to school. I worked 3 jobs. Found out she was committing welfare fraud. I turned her in (I didn't want to get in trouble for what she was doing.) She also had anger issues and would try to take it out on the oldest daughter. Another reason why I stayed....to protect the oldest daughter. One day she put bruises on her when I wad at work and sent her to school. Long story short, she went to jail, I got full custody of both girls. Still have full custody to this day.

Was a FedEx guy for 11 years. Pretty much came in contact with 160 or so customers a day..mostly women. Their wives had no social life, no ability to go out on their own as they have no sitter or income of their own, and their husbands, who also arent working out or taking care of themselves are just trashing their wives, getting drunk w/ his buddies after work for hours, and flirting w every young girl (mistresses galore y’all) If your sharing your life with someone and their behavior and hygiene takes a drastic dive like this than their are underlying issues the two are not addressing or attempting to bury. You do not just wake up one day to this; something has happened, she’s clearly mentally deteriorating and should absolutely see a hormone specialist and seek mental health care. People want to believe they can’t be at fault when they’re partners behavior is way worse than theirs; but its partnership - you’ve missed something. Im ok never getting married because I know a life-changing traumatic event could make my partner someone i no longer love, and I know id want to leave. People gotta think harder on the “for better or worse” (Edit: that being said, its not his job to fix her - but you also dont get to throw up your hands like “i gave my all idk wtf her prob was!!”)
This kind of stuff still trips me out. It's the reason I won't ever get married REGARDLESS of what kind of things I'll suffer for if I don't. If a woman or man loves you for the person you are and wants it to work, they shouldn't care about a piece of paper that means nothing. Back in the early 80s one of the moms in the neighborhood did all the before and after school and summer time daycare baby sitting for all the working parents on our street. I loved being a kid in the 80s, best decade ever! Anyways, the mom watches us and the dad worked. I cant remember where he worked but he made good money. So we were spoiled kids under their watch. Our parents paid for us to be there but they always went out of their way to make sure all us kids had a great time. They had 3 boys, one my age, one younger and one older. Total helicopter mom from what I remember. They were always happy. Big house nice cars, big boat, always doing stuff. I ended up moving away in 1990. Fast forward to 2012 my mom sees the dad riding a bike to work at the same place she worked a few cities away from our old neighborhood (this place builds lots of commercial airliners hint*). She recognizes him while hes riding thru the parking lot. My moms says "mike, is that you? And hes says hey look who it is etc". They got to talking and he sais that when his youngest son went away to college his wife told him shes been seeing another man, she racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt in his name, brought him to court for divorce and had to sell everything, house, cars, boat and left all the debt to him. I dont know how you do that or get away with it but she did. Completely ruined him. Sad, went from what looked like a happy perfect family on the block with all the nice stuff and 20 some years later hes down trodden in recovery and riding a bike to work and lives in an apartment. You hear stories like this often and it's so f**ked up. No matter who it is, man or woman. 2/3 of your life ends up in the drain. Hard to bounce back when you're older I assume. Just brutal. I dont know if he did it didnt do anything to bring this on him self. If he did, he didn't mention it. Just said that he and his wife started having "pRObleMs". You know how that goes. If I remember, my mom said he told her that their kids did all right for them selves tho so that's good.

I went from 145 to 205 when I tore my right knee up at the same time covid came around I am desperately trying to lose it the gut I have now is still shocking to look at in the mirror. 100% my fault for having it awful diet. As I listened to Bill tell this story, I felt like I was listening to a story on how my life used to be. Other than the business debts, it's almost identical. I got out of it and my life has completely changed for the better. I came out of the divorce not owing her a dime (fortunately, my kids were all adults, so I didn't have to worry about them). I've been divorced for 4 1/2 years, have not had any desire to date, and have no plans to ever get married again. There is a downside to my decision, but the benefits outweigh that.
But William, one can be the best at being the worst. Thanks for the laughs - genuinely helps me get through work especially while I'm just getting back in the rhythm of things post holidays.

So I was with a horrible person for about 10 years also. She had a daughter when we met, dad wasn't around, so her daughter became my daughter. Sooooo many red flags but I stayed for the little girl. Eventually me and the mom got married because she was pregnant. I tried to do the right thing. She didn't cook much. Didn't take care of the baby, didn't take other daughter to school. I worked 3 jobs. Found out she was committing welfare fraud. I turned her in (I didn't want to get in trouble for what she was doing.) She also had anger issues and would try to take it out on the oldest daughter. Another reason why I stayed....to protect the oldest daughter. One day she put bruises on her when I wad at work and sent her to school. Long story short, she went to jail, I got full custody of both girls. Still have full custody to this day.

It is a good point about not politicizing housework. I was in relationship with a woman who, while never stated explicitly, seemed to buy into this idea of it being demeaning to contribute to housework. It was unhealthy and she failed to see the hypocrisy in effectively forcing me to do all the cleaning.

I shouldn't laugh but I can see why my immigrant family is always saying it's better for my brothers to go back home and find a wife there and bring her back, obviously the story here isn't the norm but very common in the west, I am a mother of 5, I cook, clean and do the laundry, I pick up our kids to and from school and I hit the gym 5 times a week and my weight is on the lower end for women my age(34), husband works and does help with the kids and errands but I do most of the housework because I am a stay at home mom and love looking after our home, as I write this I am folding laundry and cleaned the whole house 😂, these things make me happy, I don't do it for my husband but for our whole family. This man needs to run away and find himself another person. Western men, go overseas and find yourselves a traditional wives cuz they are very rare to find in the west 🤣.

I relate alot with this first dude. We set down calmly and decided to get divorced. It was calm and pretty mature thanks to prenup. Then went back few weeks later and got full custody. Lol. We def weren't getting along well then. Took awhile but worked out for me. Had to get that calm divorce outta the way first. Simple truth bomb DON'T get married.

Was a FedEx guy for 11 years. Pretty much came in contact with 160 or so customers a day..mostly women.

These situations are hard for me and just my personal explanation;
As a female bartender, for years I’d hear husbands say things like this yet where were they? Their wives had no social life, no ability to go out on their own as they have no sitter or income of their own, and their husbands, who also arent working out or taking care of themselves are just trashing their wives, getting drunk w/ his buddies after work for hours, and flirting w every young girl (mistresses galore y’all)
If your sharing your life with someone and their behavior and hygiene takes a drastic dive like this than their are underlying issues the two are not addressing or attempting to bury. You do not just wake up one day to this; something has happened, she’s clearly mentally deteriorating and should absolutely see a hormone specialist and seek mental health care.
People want to believe they can’t be at fault when they’re partners behavior is way worse than theirs; but its partnership - you’ve missed something.
Im ok never getting married because I know a life-changing traumatic event could make my partner someone i no longer love, and I know id want to leave.

If a woman or man loves you for the person you are and wants it to work, they shouldn't care about a piece of paper that means nothing. Anyone trying to pressure you into marriage and complaining about it not happening isn't worth marrying, because that means they want something from you that you can't legally battle.
Don't marry. It's an outdated religious tradition that nowadays only ends up costing people shitloads of money. You shouldn't need a signature from someone to declare that you love someone. It's just a way to be locked into a legal obligation when you could just as easily not be.
Back in the early 80s one of the moms in the neighborhood did all the before and after school and summer time daycare baby sitting for all the working parents on our street. I loved being a kid in the 80s, best decade ever! Anyways, the mom watches us and the dad worked. I cant remember where he worked but he made good money. So we were spoiled kids under their watch. Our parents paid for us to be there but they always went out of their way to make sure all us kids had a great time. They had 3 boys, one my age, one younger and one older. Total helicopter mom from what I remember. They were always happy. Big house nice cars, big boat, always doing stuff. I ended up moving away in 1990. Fast forward to 2012 my mom sees the dad riding a bike to work at the same place she worked a few cities away from our old neighborhood (this place builds lots of commercial airliners hint*). She recognizes him while hes riding thru the parking lot. My moms says "mike, is that you? And hes says hey look who it is etc". They got to talking and he sais that when his youngest son went away to college his wife told him shes been seeing another man, she racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt in his name, brought him to court for divorce and had to sell everything, house, cars, boat and left all the debt to him. I dont know how you do that or get away with it but she did. Completely ruined him. Sad, went from what looked like a happy perfect family on the block with all the nice stuff and 20 some years later hes down trodden in recovery and riding a bike to work and lives in an apartment.
You hear stories like this often and it's so f**ked up. No matter who it is, man or woman. 2/3 of your life ends up in the drain. Hard to bounce back when you're older I assume. Just brutal. I dont know if he did it didnt do anything to bring this on him self. If he did, he didn't mention it. Just said that he and his wife started having "pRObleMs". You know how that goes. If I remember, my mom said he told her that their kids did all right for them selves tho so that's good.
