  • Andante; Vivace
Regular and longstanding Leeds Minster recitalist Dr Christopher Newton performs this charming two-movement Organ Voluntary by the blind London eighteenth century organist-composer John Stanley. The opening movement makes use of mellow diapason tone while the livelier second movement allows for some brighter contrasting colours drawn from across the different manuals of the Leeds instrument. English organs of Stanley's period had no pedal board, so the writing is for manuals only and the influence of Italianate baroque style, transmitted to England through such figures as G. F. Handel, is clear.
Recorded live during a recital at Leeds Minster in March 2020.
