    As a greek person,I find the notion that Sappho could have been a man completely moronic. When we talk about sappho in Greek,we say 'Η Σαπφώ...' which mean Sappho with a female pronoun,not 'Ο Σαπφώ...' which is the exact opposite. Do you think we don't know what our best poets had in their pants?

    • @AbyssalSoda
      @AbyssalSoda 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well considering how much they keep revising history throughout the west and the rest of the world, yeah. One of the jobs of modern historians is always to question and restructure the narrative. The most recent large scale example is how they altered the consensus on Egyptian slavery from being one of the cruelest on Earth to being more of a Feudal system. This contests a huge amount of historical data that states to the contrary, yet the modern consensus caved to give the spotlight to the trending topic of American Slavery. Heck history still has yet to accept the Armenian genocide which occurred in the early 1900s which we have photographic evidence, and which Hitler and Stalin used as a blueprint for mass deportation and execution. Historians still refuse to call or recognize it as a genocide though for political reasons.

    This is a very good question. It is on the record that Plato called her a 10th muse. so it means that Sappho did exist and her being as a 10th muse (which means a female character). Rest you can guess from her poems that whether she was lesbian or hetro-sexual.
