Aphrodite, Subtle-souled and deathless
Daughter of god, temptress
I pray to you, with neither care nor anguish, do not slay my spirit
In pity, come to me.
Come now, I implore you.
You have yet to listen.
Come from the house of your father
Come on your chariot, pulled by doves down into the dark earth from Heaven
Dipping vibrant wings down the azure distance through the mid aether
Very swiftly you came, and your gracious vision leaned and smiled in immortal beauty.
Leaned to me, and asked what misfortune threatened?, why had I called you?, What had my frenzied heart craved in utter yearning? Whose wild desire had swayed to passion? Whose disdainful charms, madly worshipped, had slight you?
Who wrongs you, Sappho?
She who desires to leave will soon come after,
she who currently refuses, will try to win you over with gifts
she who ignores you, will soon love you passionately
Love you, the one who hesitates!
Come to me now, Goddess, and free me from suffering and pain; fulfill all my desires once again
