Man uses sewing machine to mend struggling neighborhood

- Michael Swaine has made it his mission to help one of San Francisco's struggling communities -- the Tenderloin district. As Steve Hartman reports, Swaine is using his sewing skills to help create change.
Celebrating good people, like Michael, is a wonderful use of TH-cam.
This story hits my heart. My grandmother used to be a seamstress. She loved doing it. I can't remember a time I didn't see her at her machine. Made all my clothes until I was about 12. The talent of sewing, knitting, crochet, etc., is just amazing. It's wholesome. It's beautiful. It's LOVE ❤️

So many people have forgotten the art of sewing. But if you ever had your favorite shirt, pants mended you know how happy it makes you feel.
Volunteers and the people in the communities do a better job than government will ever do .
This is the kind of stuff that should be on you tube not all these bloggers who are not positive influence to our kids!

This man sees the value in what others might want to throw away -- whether that be clothes, or human beings.
That looks exactly like my grandma's sewing machine that she bought new in 1929 (except hers was an electric) My brother has it now. Michael is so selfless in that all he does is give and he loves doing it. And this is more satisfying than buying something made overseas at Walmart.

I love this story. I love this guy. I love this community. (and you too, reporter.) I do not mend everything I wear, but I do mend key clothing for myself. It takes a knack. A lot of appreciation for how this all adds up for everyone involved. ty (Doing those backpacks; what a blessing.)

What a generous and awesome man! This is such a wonderful idea to repair and reuse clothing for those that don't sew and need help. I had to smile at the White Rotary he is using...I have that one in my living room, in its original ornate wood cabinet 1911.
I wish there were more people like him.

I've lived in the tenderloin years ago and found it one of the best communities I've ever lived in. the bonding and valuing of the people is the real riches here, not the real estate.

MY WIFE DIDN’T THINK 🤔 I COULD SEW 🧵and hand stitch.. HAHA I said. My GREAT GRANDMOTHER 👵 and the ARMY TOUGHT ME A LOT.
I love to sew...I learned by myself when I was only 10 years old, I just to make dresses for my dolls. Now days I saved so much money repairing my old cloth bring then back to new styles, or buying clothing that need to repair for a cheeper price (good brands).
The best seamstresses are women, and the best tailors are men, in my opinion.

Absolutely you’re right dear. I pay one man $250 to make me one suit a year. the same I pay for my wife so a lady can make her a dress 👗..

Stitch in Time Saves Nine. This proverb simply means that it requires only a few stitches to repair a small tear in a garment. But if you ignore it, the tear will become bigger requiring more stitches. This means that you have to put in more efforts to get it mended.
