  • 1886 Singer Sewing Machine Restoration
In our first restoration, we decided to make a roadmap of your feedback and to do the maintenance and restoration of the sewing machine for the second time. Fortunately, one of our viewers trusted us and asked us to renew their sewing machine. Positive and negative comments from you are the most valuable thing for us. We are waiting for your positive and negative criticism in this video. Who knows, maybe we can do another sewing machine restoration.

That says a lot about a machine that was made nearly 150 years ago, being able to sew just as well as the day it was made.

My wife just recently received a 1950 Singer (We looked up the serial #) from her 88 yr. old Mom. Her Mom loved to sew and make beautiful blankets by crochet or quilt. With it came several box's of materiel and a dozen sets of scissors. All sorts of colored thread on a display and more stuff and doo dads. My wife has rediscovered sewing and has made baby blankets and pillows for girlfriends and is about to make her first dress from a pattern. It makes her happy and i can't ask for more... Old Grumpy. 😁

    Who are you!!!
I'll tell u who you are. Your are a genius 👏 for making this video and the other video! These video's are references that will go down in classic views and you tube hall of fame! Well done!
Now please if you will do a 1940's, 50's, or 60's Featherweight with motor that would be the one everyone is collecting and restoring for thier sewing room. Not trying to cut middle man out but two companies out there are charging $3,000.00 to restoration and pick out your on color for the sewing machine. I can not touch that no way. I want to do it myself , but I need someone like you to break it down piece by piece. wow!!!Thank you! Have a wonderful life!!

My mother was given (back in 1946) a Singer Featherweight 221 as a wedding present. I was born in 1948 - and story goes, mom used to lie me on my tummy, and I would watch, fascinated as the needle on the machine went up and down. Well, it is now 2022, and guess what?? I still have that machine!! It runs like a top, and recently, lovingly serviced, cleaned and oiled by a place here in New Orleans. Those were built to last.

I have my Grandmother's 1956 Singer. It is in the original sewing cabinet, I have the instruction booklet and all the original accessories. It is amazing to see how in 70 years from this one so many things remain the same. Like the tension screw for the stitches, the way you change the needle. The pressure foot is the same, with the lever in back to raise and lower it. It also still has a hand wheel on the right side to manually stitch when needed.

Hello, I need to say how much I have enjoyed this video as a hobbyist sewing machine restorer myself. In fact, in the process of restoring a 1898 machine in similar bad shape. Some constructive criticism. Although the job is amazing when it comes to polishing and sand blasting, I would expect much better results in finishing the black painted surfaces, there are still many scuffed and pitted areas. I use metal and body filler for cars and then sand to the desired smooth finish. But since you laser engrave I understand the limitations ( I apply water decals under multiple clear coats). Painting the ornate face plate in gold is brilliant! thinking of doing that on the old lady. Thanks again, amazing job!

🇧🇷🇧🇷 What an extraordinary work made by a human being. This person IS an amazing and unique human . His work goes far beyond " restoration "; this person, literary, has the power to bring back the KAMI that once belonged to this Sewing Machine. Many generations were involved to create and maintain this machine. Including the person who has restored it. This machine CANNOT be possessed by any person anymore but, only by someone who will take great care of it and USE IT once in while. Can you feel anything when you touch a radio device. No. You cannot but, turn the radio device on and it will have the power to turn you sad or happy by the songs you hear. Exactly the same happens with ANY object you use or will use. The Tsukumogami once in this Sewing Machine IS BACK. Happy is the nation in which this restore person was born or live in.🇧🇷🇧🇷

I turned a foot pedaled singer into a foot pedaled grinding stone to sharpen my axes and knives.. I get way more use out of it than I would a sewing machine.. I had a 31-15, many years ago. My first machine. Solid as a rock, but heavier. Made a few work shirts, patched a ton of jeans, and made a 3 person tent and fly.
    Miss it.

This restoration is amazing. The skills and equipment needed to disassemble all of the components, keep them organized, clean/restore each piece including every screw, etc. is magnificent. Plus a huge amount of patience is required! It would have taken many hours of work. I want to cry when I see how much solid metal was used to manufacture these machines compared to the limited life of today's plastic, circuit board, planned obsolescence today's domestic machines have. It's amazing the technology that was available in 1886 to manufacture every piece. Plus the intelligence of the designers and engineers. I loved it when you removed the bobbin and removed the original sewing thread. I hope you kept the thread for the owner! And to think how the design of the needles back in 1886 is the same as today. The quality of the stitching is better than I can get from my cheap Brother Heavy Duty machine. I see you are in Turkey! Thank you so much!

What a fine piece of work! Thank you for taking the time to post it.
You did very well to show the machine sewing after your work was done. The proof that the job is well done is the quality of the stitches the machine produces. This one looks like the stitches are excellent.
Just so you know, in their manuals Singer recommended using kerosene to clean out old gummed up or hardened oil. I have found that this works well.
I very much like your use of the laser to create the decorations. It is good taste and the design shows respect for the heritage of the machine. I would love to see a video of exactly how the laser work is done. That however is selfish of me and I have no right to be selfish in light of the generosity you show in posting such an excellent video.

Thanks for watching. we can make a video specific to the laser machine. where we find the drawings and how we sometimes draw it ourselves. Sometimes we abstract and draw an item, and sometimes we do a completely abstract work. The laser machine is not an easy machine either. Making size adjustments, other than making adjustments according to the material we use… other than that, manual adjustments to make the surface 90 degrees… The 2 minutes seen in the video, but we really spent a lot of time on laser work. 😂

How did you transfer the original decoration into your laser?
Those machines were really made to last generations.
    Unlike today's ''throwaway'' culture.

Ну как так то, вроде и руки куда надо вставлены, почему не можешь воспользоваться отвертками по размеру, дабы не уродовать шлицы ? Одна отвертка для всех работ :(
и натяжение нити отрегулировать надо, шов далеко не идеал.

Beautiful work. Truly enjoyed watching your restoration of both sewing machines. Your laser engraving is very artistic. Never seen that bobbin mechanism in US machines so I’m totally mesmerized 😲. These sewing machines were meant to be passed on to the younger generations so I’m glad you are helping to do that. Your color choices in this one are very faithful to the original. Bravo! Excellent! Health and success to you!
