I imagine if something BIG happened, then that's when the security checkpoints stop everybody and essentially close down the perimeter until they find who did it.
So unless a terrible event happens, security basically does nothing aside from be ready to close the gates both in and out, so to speak.

From reading the comments, I can tell this will be an unpopular opinion but oh well. :) I have no problem with capitalism. If someone wants to offer a service and I don't believe it's fair market price, I will essentially walk. Although I only visit Thailand each year, I lived in Philippines and they have their own version of these money grabs and farang (puti) pricing. What I love about your vlogs is it's real. You're not putting on the typical vlogger fake smile about every place you visit. Your authenticity is what makes this channel special.

Exactly, Paddy is absolutely right! There's absolutely NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT, even if you were hypothetically, say being at some of these places on a specific date:-
    1) Paddy Dolye was at one of Yala's security check-point on 6 November 2019, pretty sure even so Paddy won't be one of the 15 unfortunate souls that never see the Sunlight again
    2) Paddy Dolye was at Pattani's Big C Supermarket on 9 May 2017, pretty sure even so Paddy won't get a single scratch unlike the other 80 unfortunate injured ones
    3) Paddy Dolye was at one of Hua Hin's Thai Resort on August 11, 2016, pretty sure even so Paddy won't feel a thing unlike those victims
    4) Paddy Dolye was at Surat Thani, Phuket and Trang few days after Aug 11, 2016, once again Paddy will never get a scratch from any explosive devices even if he were to be there
    5) Paddy Dolye was in front of 7 Eleven convenience store on Ponpichai Road & near the police flats opposite Hat Yai police station in Haytai on 6 May 2014, Paddy would be prefectly safe & sound
    6) Paddy Dolye was in Danok, Padang Besar and Sadao on 22 December 2013, pretty sure even if Paddy was there Paddy will be safely protected by his wisdom
    7) and the list goes ON and ON ....... (too long a list, indeed)
So, what to worry? Nothing! All look SO RANDOM! Completely NOT related to any religion, any race, any political parties! It could have happened to any country in the world, on any random day, to any random people, so what to worry! It is SO SILLY to have so many checkpoint, or even military personnel's carrying assault rifles on patrol! Was that even necessary? Right?!
Paddy Doyle should certainly move to Southern Thailand and spend the next 30 years there to enjoy long & peaceful life! Don't listen to any rumor that spreads fear. The next time a similar event happens, Paddy Doyle must be sure to be there in person on the spot to experience it first hand ! ...... :-) Cheers!

23 April 2021: In the Southern Province of Narathiwat Rangers received a report that a bomb had been thrown at a volunteer outpost in the Yi-Ngo district. No one was injured in the explosion. 6 men on 3 motorcycle were reported to have attacked the outpost. When rangers spotted the suspects shots were fired and one man was killed.
The rangers arrested 2 men, then seized an assault rifle and the 3 motorcycles. 2 suspects fled the scene. No rangers were killed on the attack.
    Stay safe Paddy.

Because it is next to the Malaysian border, there have been protests and attacks since the early 2000's due to separatist activities. Bombings and attacks over the decades, so the Thai military presence is heavier. Just a little history reference.

Paddy, I think the main reason they do not allow your and visitors’ motor bikes or cars to drive up all the way to the top of the skywalk is because there is not enough parking space there. I heard that that skywalk is quite famous, a big crowd would normally show up to see an ocean of cloud/fog covering the valley in the dawn. Have fun and be safe!

As a Thai people , I have to inform you about insurgency in southern border of Thailand [ separatist violence in Muslim-majority southern provinces ] many poeple died and injured for decades .And to date seem to be many governments has failed to engage seriously with political solution to the southern conflict. That's why you see armed guard soldiers and army truck. We hope peace will happen there one they in the future, not any conflicts left.

I know this was sooooo long ago, and that you were really trying to get people to be less worried about going to Yala (which is appreciated, but not 100% your responsibility to convince people of that, not meaning that in a rude way).
I just wanted to say, it's definitely okay to turn around and not enjoy an attraction if you have a weird feeling about it! Military or not! You're okay to make these decisions for you! As a solo traveler myself, I like to see and relate to others experiencing that, and everything not being sunshine and flowers all the time!! ❤🤍💙🤍❤

Scenery is beautiful ,maybe you try to have a little chit chat with people you might feel a bit better, I personally think the reason you are feeling uncomfortable is not because of the presence of the security /military but because you have heard negative things about the south and them thoughts are at the back of your head, I am sure you could have had a chat with the guys doing road trip on the BMW motorbikes maybe could have given you some tips on some places to visit in Yala, Try to have chat with the locals you meet and you will find how friendly and welcoming they can be. Any how you enjoy the rest of your trip brother, looking forward to the next video, take care and stay safe.

In fact, Southern Thailand, from Ligor to Malaysia, is the mainland of the Malaya peninsula. The native people are the Malays. They were eliminated in their own country because their territory was conquered by the kingdom of Siam / Thailand hundreds of years ago until now.

At the Grand Canyon Skywalk its the same. You have to pay for entrance & bus ride( I thunk it was abt $100 years ago) to the walk AND you must lock your camera/ phone away. You want a photo? There is a photographer that bills you $30/€25/TBh945 per photo. They claim if you drop the camera, you will damage the glass. Uhmmm if it's that flimsy glass, why are people walking on it?

  • @penpakachurd7183
    @penpakachurd7183 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

They didn't let you ride to the top of the skywalk so that local Thai people would get some small amount of money (Baht20 up and Baht10 down). And big cars also could not go up They had to park below If not everyone wanted to park on the top. If you did not want to pay you could walk up and down

‘Cha’ = Tea, ‘Ma-now’ = Lime/Lemon (In regard to this drink). It’s not ‘Chai ma-now’ as Paddy said in the video. He had a lot on his mind, and so it was probably a slip of the tongue 🙂 There are hot or cold versions...so ‘cha ma-now yen’ for the cold version, and ‘cha ma-now ron’ for the hot.
A regular iced tea would be ‘Cha dum yen’ (dum = black), and ‘Cha Yen’ would get you an iced Thai milk tea.

I travelled on a boat on a river near Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai in 1991 with a border guard with a M16 sitting in the bow.. nevermind he was asleep for most of the trip..

Don't worry Paddy, I've seen much the same in the Philippines. You park here, ride a jeep up a hill 300 meters then you walk some more, paying 30 or 50 pesos at each step. Having the parking does usually allow some control over where most of the litter is, plus it helps control how many people are in the "attraction " at peak times. Plus it gives them a place to assemble a bunch of vendors to peddle water or tea and snacks and so on.

The conflict in Southern Thailand has seen more deaths than the gaza strip, might put the armed guards in perspective

Some lovely roads, shame the sky walk wasn’t any good. Hope the Honda dream holds up.

The danger is not the soldiers. The danger are the separatist bomb-planters who don't wear a uniform and are not visible. The cave is a target because it's where a lot of people congegrate and a bomb would cause maximum loss of life and limb and, if a farang is involved, it's a "bonus"... 😱
This said. A very honest video and you share your feelings, which is a better bonus than coming back in bits in a carrier bag. Thanks 🌹 😎😄

In case most don't know it, you can't bring in and use your walkie talkie in Southern Thailand. I am not sure if it applies to the whole of Thailand. You can be in deep trouble if caught by the authorities.

I stopped watching the video once he started complaining about 20 baht which is 64 cents, whining little bitch, he should stay home. Must be a fun guy to travel with.

@@juice7136 he clearly said it’s not the money it’s the principle
It’s clearly a scam and these people don’t give you the option of a ride up they force you to take one
