    Make this simple, quick and easy popular Rice Recipe of Dal Khichdi at your home and share with us your experiences in the comments section below.
    Ingredients:-
    1 cup Pigeon Pea (Toor dal) and ½ cup Rice washed and soaked in warm water for 20 minutes
    1 tsp. Turmeric powder
    For First tempering:-
    1 tbsp. Oil
    ¼ tsp. Asafoetida
    1 tbsp. Ginger, garlic and green chilly, crushed
    2 onions, finely chopped
    1 tsp. Mustard seeds
    1 tomato, finely chopped
    1 tsp. Red chilli powder
    1 tsp. Coriander powder
    Additional salt if required
    For Second tempering:-
    3 tbsp. Ghee
    1 tsp. Cumin seeds
    3 red chillies dried
    10 curry leaves
    Coriander leaves
    Method:-
    - Pressure cook the dal and rice by adding turmeric powder and salt.
    - In a pan heat vegetable oil and splutter mustard seeds in it. Add asafoetida followed by onions and chillies.
    - Once the onions turn translucent, add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 30-40 seconds.
    - Add tomatoes, red chilli powder and coriander powder cooking for a minute.
    - Whisk the cooked dal and rice nicely and add water to it.
    - Transfer the boiled dal and rice to the tempering and cook until it starts bubbling.
    - For the final tempering, melt ghee in a tempering vessel and add cumin seeds, dried red chillies and curry leaves.
    - Once it splutters pour this tempering on top of the khichdi.

    Hi,
    Nice one..
    I hv seen the first person who is actually using dal twice than rice...
    This is what is needed in daal kahichdi.. coz daal is dominating on rice...
    Don't know why some of people forget this n using 1:1 or rice 2 parts n daal 1 part...

    Also adding water after cooking causes had and bloating... The water should all be added during cooking. Add extra water or you will have gas and bloating for sure

    Superb dish beautifully presented. Came out great except for the lingering taste of raw turmeric, which I don't like too much. So for people like me the turmeric could be added in the tadka instead of boiling it with rice and daal, to get rid of that slight rawness.
