In the context of the history of Oceania, “black” as an identity either imposed or self- attributed most often refers to Melanesians and/or Aboriginal Australians, both of whom, in the Western imagination, formed the contrasting image to the ideal of Polynesians as white. Tracey Banivanua- Mar describes Melanesianism as “the historical notion that Melanesians, or Kanakas, were essentially driven and motivated by the base instincts of tribalism, primitivism, and savage vio lence . . . an idea that dehistoricized people’s physical actions and essentialized Islanders’ vio lence in a way that displaced it from its social context.”

For years I tried to figure out why I didn’t really look anything like my father so I was excited when DNA testing and analysis became available to the public. Turns out I have a little known genetic mutation called Mailmanism. Little is known about it but apparently it’s thought to afflict as much as 30%-40% of the population. The exact cause of this mutation is unknown, but it’s thought that the mother is ultimately the determining factor of whether or not a child will end up with the mutation.

Recent genetic studies have isolated a gene which controls the mechanism that turns food/nutrients into mass quickly & efficiently in polynesians. When the ancient Austronesians departed east asia to colonize the Pacific, it was those genes(that turned food into mass quickly) that were able to survive those long voyages. By the time they arrived in Samoa, Tonga, and the rest of Polynesia, these austronesian genetics were quite a bit different than when they left the shores of Asia

Look at the early pictures of polynesian peoples at the turn of the century. Agriculture, fishing, hunting was the way of life. Folks were still large framed, but very fit.

Who tf said this? I got the honor of living w my great grandmother, born in raised in Manua, American Samoa, she didn't come to America, until her grandchildren were born, she was well in her 70s at this time, and she always told us, Samoans are naturally dark brown ppl, the first Samoan on the island were black, it wasn't till the colonizers came, and we just started getting lighter and lighter. Heck no, we don't come from Asian, we come from black Samoans, that's always been us, sun kissed ppl of the Pacific.

Samoans are some truly awesome people. They are fierce, but if they accept you, you in.
Edit:¿Blasians? Such an odd division. Anyways, Samoans are awesome.
