Tyriel, I hope you see this: Please, fix your old G2 through the lens video. It's not fair. You had the blurry pre-production lenses, and Microsoft's chromatic aberration software fix wasn't released yet. MRTV's new G2 through the lens video looks a million times better than your pre-production unit. It would be beautiful if you can release one final updated through the lens with Quest 2 90hz Link quality update, REverb G2 final unit with chromatic aberration update, and just keep the old Index footage which is already representative... ^^ Your current outdated video from September scared everyone in the G2 discord today before they realized your footage was old.
I've using Kat loco for over a year, they are great, i haven't tried the loco s yet but i'm very excited. As a kat loco "veteran": you just need some practice and twicking to have it to work properly and when it does it does it great, also the decoupled head and body, you just have to point with your waist
I've been using the Kat Locos for about a year now. These seem to be nearly identical to the S. The thing is a lot people claim it doesn't work with a lot of games, or that the lateral movement doesn't work... Well.. It comes down to settings. Now the quick select supported games settings, those are hot garbage. I will admit that. However, I'm pretty good at calibrating the settings manually and can get most games setup and ready to go in less than 4 minutes. Surviv3 and Until You fall are absolutely amazing with this device. Until You Fall isn't even on their "compatible" list, but I assure you manual settings work better than the default settings in "ZomDay" or the like. The biggest benefit to using Kat Locos is the fact that it greatly reduces motion sickness (at least for me and my GF). In my case I have ankle weights on my legs in addition to the pucks and so I'm getting a bit of a workout while I run around and play. I've lost over 47lb playing VR in the last year. I am currently 216lbs, down from 260lb in January, Covid has also helped as I can control what I eat, not having to rely on my workplace cafeteria, but also no 2-hour commute granting me an hour+ a day of VR time has helped keep me more physically active with the weights adding resistance, while the pucks force me to walk if I want to walk. I am just absolutely shocked how many people don't know how to properly change the settings and just list a ton of games as "doesn't work" when you can easily set it up in like 3 minutes. The only REAL complaint I have with the game is that there is no ability to make your own custom presets. Every time I change games I have to remember what the ideal settings were and put them in myself. Again using the built-in pre-sets is not the way to go, they generally suck. I wish this was a case where a single global setting works in all games, but that isn't the case. Making a step = 1 step, is tricky business, as your stride isn't really calculated. I absolutely love the body tracker though being able to turn my head and shoot while walking a different direction brings me back to when I use to play Vive games with free locomotion. (I was stuck using WMR for the past 2 years and now recently upgraded to Quest 2, which is far better than G2 or any WMR device's garbage tracking) anyway the body tracker helps return that feeling of freedom and immursion. I agree about walking backward though. One of the more annoying things is sometimes when I kneel I trigger the walk back and that is very annoying. If I have to go backward I usually just use the joystick and once I need to go sideways or forward I use the pucks :) Oh also the device does full leg tracking in VR Chat... So that's a cool bonus that's fun to toy with.

It's totally usable... People for some bizarre reason don't seem to not understand how to work the settings for some reason... I guess it's because I experimented with it for 90 minutes the first day and figured what each one does and how to best calibrate them for my stride etc. It literally works with pretty much any game that has free location and I love the ability to look around while walking in a different direction. Works great in Until You Fall, Walking Dead Saints and Sinners and Surv1v3. That said the quick start settings have been universally hot garbage, but the manual settings only take about 3 minutes to calibrate and get up and running, once you understand how they work.

Hello Tyriel wood i was wondering if the Kat Loco can work to tracking the full body ether because I heard you can use it for full body tracking for VRChat and other games but i can't find any video doing that or showing a review if that really works.
Just like Cyber Shoes, it does not work with Quest except through Steam VR, AKA Virtual Desktop or link. However Cybershoes is doing a KS for a dongle addon that would let it work on Quest. I use mine on Quest right now, but that's only for Steam VR based games.
Hi Tyriel! Love the video and your content in general. I was wondering if you’ve checked out VRocker on Steam? I’ve tried both Kat Loco and VRocker and I have to say that VRocker is just as good if not better and requires no additional peripherals. It’s only about 10 bucks on Steam.
I just tried VRocker, it sucks. It still make me dizzy. The reason is that you have to use a controller to point where you want to go and that can get disoriented if you point in the wrong direction and move where you brain did not expected. Continue screwing up your brain and you're fucked...that is what create dizziness. I am done....need to get my refund back.
I'm used to mouse & keyboard. Gamepad controls on shooter?? No way. And this problem has VR :( So I really need a solution for this. I have the first version of the kat loco and their reaction time is horrible.
I received a KATVR Loco s that was faulty or the software/hardware is very poor. Would not connect properly with Steam and when it occasionally connected, you had to lift your knees almost to you chin to get it to recognise a moment. Software has to be downloaded from kat vr site, and windows warn about it being unsecured. Total nightmare. Avoid save yourself time and money.
Well the original Kat Locos would only work on Steam VR titles, so I play games via virtual desktop with them, but as for Oculus 2 standalone? no there is no way for the dongle to communicate with the headset. Cyber Shoes has the same exact problem, hence their recent Kickstarter to make a dongle that would attach to the USBC port of your device (I sincerely hope they thought ahead and allow passthrough so people can still use a battery with their headset though...)
In reality we go/fall in the direction of our center of mass dis-aligning from gravity direction. Not on foot / hips orientation. We need a system/shoes that allows the user to lean beyond its center of gravity, like Michael Jackson in "Smooth Criminal".
Its crazy , as fvx supervisor with less of 1000$ u can have a complete suit with 12 trackers , pretty quite accurate for motion tracking / animation. 220 $ for 3 bluetooth sensors and a poor tracking experience ? Nah..
You can buy the OG version for $99 at Twisted Reality. And the it offers a form of MoCap, on top of tracking and your legs and waist position... I mean... That's not that bad really. Steam FBT is costs more and it doesn't translate into controlling a character in every free locomotion game and grant you the ability to look around while walking forward.
Hey Tyr, thanks for the test video, pretty interesting for me. Can you compare the performance of the loco S to the software "Natural Locomotion"? I am using this software with Vive Trackers on my feet ( the Vive Trackers are roughly the same price as the Loco S and "Natural Locomotion" on Steam is about 10 bucks. For me it runs ok but also not always realiable, so it would be interesting which setup is better, the Kat Loco S or the Vive Trackers with "Natural Locomotion". Thanks for your nice videos!
in the market to buy one or the other right now. but maybe i should wait till a better one gets made or the kat loco s gets lots of updates. how is trackers + NaLo? you say not always reliable. is this an issue with base station to tracker obstruction from the legs you think?
@@Aycheffe It's garbage with trackers and NaLo. The tracking is off and doesn't stop when your movement stop and if this continue throughout the game, you will feel dizzy eventually. Also it isn't accurate and move when I stomp my feet. I had to return it right away...can't stand it.
I bought it and got it today. Save your money. Terrible. You can't run/walk in straight line(tends to go on a slant), the sensitivity is too low so you must increase it to almost the max settings, it is not smooth unless you are in a consistent cadence, later strafing is just plain unnatural and takes a weird gesture to activate AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST: don't bother trying to move backwards. NALO is still much better.
This should not be necessary, why not just implement the "swing arms to move" concept like this with full body trackers which a lot of people already own and then designate a button on the controller to activate "walking" It should be possible....
If you’re holding something like a gun or swinging an Axe, it could detect you as walking so it’s not a great idea till the technology is more advanced
Why are so many products released half-baked? It only helps them fail because of bad publicity from early buyers. Walking backward and strafing should be implemented day one. Nail the hardware AND software, then release.
They had the treadmill first, but they saw another company had this type of hardware in a Kickstarter , walkovr VR. They decided to beat them to the punch and put out an half baked product, to control the market share, since this type of project would provide instant revenue easy. I’m guess the tracking code and sensor they used on the treadmill would only need simple changes to just shipped the sensors itself.
Was hoping that it was also FBT (Full Body Tracking) compatible, apparently it isn't, or at least according to the internet the first iteration isn't, but I would assume the second one isn't either. Also a bit unfortunate that it's not USB C instead of micro USB since you are paying $200+ on something that you'll be using a lot and of course charging a lot, though they do offer full price refunds if it can be justified, like if it was something that was their fault, however if it can't be justified, then they ask for what's basically a 10% restocking fee. Another thing mention though is the fact that they have the choice of a 1 year warranty or an extended 2 year warranty, and you are required to have one or the other, so no matter what they got you covered in any case
I dunno about that. I’ve heard that the newer version is FBT. But even if it’s not someone will make a “hack” for it eventually. Much cheaper solution for VR Chat 😉

No... It also does or form of mo-cap, and it is tracking your vector distance between your ankles and your waist and is doing calculations for speed and stride based on the distance changes, etc. as well as engaging stride, etc. If it was a "foot step tracking" then it could literally be a click button on the bottom of your shoe and you wouldn't need all the fancy calculations, or even the waist tracker, etc.

Nice video Tyriel. I'd love to see more content on vr locomotion devices. Working on my own atm.
Curious how this will work with the Teslasuit
I have the original Kat Loco, I,ve played all Half Life, Boneworks and more with them, and for me it is a must.
Are there any noticeable improvements on this new version? I'm considering it, thanks+
I'm running the KAT LOCO S and its fine, works a lot better than I was thinking it would! EVERYTHING works fine for me just spend a little time changing the in game settings to go along with the KAT !
This is the first time youtube notifications have notified me of an upload in less than 8 minutes after it is posted
i just tried mimicking walking and swiveling around on my chair and i think if i ever had this i could use it sitting down (so i won't walk off into an actual wall).
Is it me or dose the game you got sponsored by looks like that one on that one psvr game
Instead of paying 229$ you could also just walk in place while using the thumbstick and have basically the same experience.
i swear vr is the future of gaming
1 known triple a game and everyone is gonna move to vr
Thanks for your honest feedback about that. Made up my mind :D
So you forgot a feature if you set the tracking to Mocap it allows you to use full body tracking like vibe trackers
Hello Tyriel wood i was wondering if the Kat Loco can work to tracking the full body ether because I heard you can use it for full body tracking for VRChat and other games but i can't find any video doing that or showing a review if that really works.
I have the Kickstarter version and recall that people were largely disappointed with how these perform for body tracking.
Does it work with quest?
Well, since it doesn't even work properly with PCVR you shouldn't care about it
Just like Cyber Shoes, it does not work with Quest except through Steam VR, AKA Virtual Desktop or link. However Cybershoes is doing a KS for a dongle addon that would let it work on Quest. I use mine on Quest right now, but that's only for Steam VR based games.
Yes it does if you know what you are doing.
@@reptilexcq2 sorry to hear that. I didn’t have that problem as I usually just keep my controller pointed the same way I’m jogging.
Yeaahh...no. I'll wait for the real treadmill thing. Hopefullly in the next 5 year or so.
I'm used to mouse & keyboard. Gamepad controls on shooter?? No way. And this problem has VR :(
So I really need a solution for this.
I have the first version of the kat loco and their reaction time is horrible.
How does this work when you go prone for sniping?
This would be awesome with a homemade omni treadmill to keep you in place.
but how can i run with it?
I received a KATVR Loco s that was faulty or the software/hardware is very poor. Would not connect properly with Steam and when it occasionally connected, you had to lift your knees almost to you chin to get it to recognise a moment. Software has to be downloaded from kat vr site, and windows warn about it being unsecured. Total nightmare. Avoid save yourself time and money.
Thank you- I couldn't sleep because of this-
Will this work with ps4
Would this work with quest 2?
Thank you for your informative content mate, much appreciated...
Teleport + room scale = much better!!!
I think I should pair that with the very treadmill
Now for the big question here, is this a cheaper alternative to full body tracking in VR chat?
Asking the real questions.
I was thinking the same thing. I’m wondering as well.
"..it kind of worked.." isn't good enough, boss.
underwater-VR is best solution for motion sickness!!!!
Its crazy , as fvx supervisor with less of 1000$ u can have a complete suit with 12 trackers , pretty quite accurate for motion tracking / animation. 220 $ for 3 bluetooth sensors and a poor tracking experience ? Nah..
Does that work with VR? Where do u get it from? Thanks
Good looking product shame its not reliable enough. I wish them well
This is a year old has the software gotten better
Why the hell does this costs 200
You can buy the OG version for $99 at Twisted Reality. And the it offers a form of MoCap, on top of tracking and your legs and waist position... I mean... That's not that bad really. Steam FBT is costs more and it doesn't translate into controlling a character in every free locomotion game and grant you the ability to look around while walking forward.
What is wrong with moving with a joystick?
Motion sickness
It’s not like moving in real life. That’s what people are after
It's really good for single player games the kat loco s
Yay first great video
I hope they will fix the software on this. This accessory has potential. I will prefer this than cybershoes.
go check VR Rocker at Steam. this thing is still early access but still works great at this point
nice product but putting all these things on just makes VR more of a hastle i think personally. i would just like to pick the headset up and play.
Strafing and moving backward is not working for you because you didn't stand your feet correctly, duh. Your heel must stick up not flat on the ground.
This should not be necessary, why not just implement the "swing arms to move" concept like this with full body trackers which a lot of people already own and then designate a button on the controller to activate "walking"
It should be possible....
Amazing
Please tell them to improve it
interresting. thx
Was just about to ask if this was full body tracking capable. Thanks for doing the research.
I dunno about that. I’ve heard that the newer version is FBT. But even if it’s not someone will make a “hack” for it eventually. Much cheaper solution for VR Chat 😉
Thanks.
They had me up until I saw the price lol
No need of this having "Natural Locomotion" on Steam.
How do you properly aim and shoot with it while running and strafing?
@@De-M-oN You can use your feet to walk using Vive trackers, Nintendo Switch Joycons, PS3 move controllers or even android smartphones attached to your feet. Just like Kat loco but with better precision on the speed and direction detection.
With the hands mode you can aim with one hand and walk with the other too.
@@MyouCat So even a smartphone works better than kat loco? Thats ridiculous then 🤣
So how do the vive tracker work then? how would I tell the game with them where I want to move?
@@De-M-oN the first 4 steps of each session will calibrate the forward direction. After the calibration process, the direction of the movement is where your feet are pointing, you can walk backwards by tilting back and strafing by turning your hip in the direction you want to walk.
@@De-M-oN Check this video: th-cam.com/video/99lgl6azam0/w-d-xo.html
Gimme legs in VR so that I can do a roundhouse kick in thrill of the fight, instead.
Kinect full body tracking?
Can u do a roundhouse kick in real life?
@@willmosse3684 Poorly, but yes
@@r448191 - ha, fair play then!
Me, waiting on my Kat Walk C: ...Ew.
So hard to listen to this weird intonation when each last word is pitched much higher.
Katvr products are not compatible with HP Reverb G2, and I've grown tired of this horrible support. Honest, buyer beware. It's game over once they have your money. I have the KAT Loco, and the Mini.
Hi
Oh I was early
#notificationgang
I agree about not working
Nah treadmill is where its at. Running in place is stupid otherwise.
Space block bastards 1:15
*M y F a v o r i t e g a m e !*
@@CaptainWoodyThePirate Yes bro :D top game
Yez
Poor VR device ever. I have first Loco from Kickstarter, Its just foot step tracking.
$229 yeah ill pass
Not first
To much money 💵
The kat Loco is trash! I have it....Throw it away.
looks like trash...
Damn this is unreliable. 👎🏿
