Finally someone that talks about Kat Loco, i've been using Kat Loco for a year now, moving with sticks it's just unbarable anymore, using our legs is the way
would be cool if they could make a software update that would use the accelerometers to guess the position in comparison to the other ones so that I would support full-body tracking
MoCap (Motion Capture) is built in to the Kat Loco. There are no good instructions on how to use it, but it's there. Doesn't work well, but someone with a lot of time could probably get it to work.
Kinect 360 has this feature, with the right parts of the windows developers toolkit, at least for most games that support full body. It creates virtual trackers using it's basic mocap, and injects those into the same 3d sim environment as your headset and controllers.
@@justacooldudeuknow28 Nah that one is like " lift your left-hand/Right-hand controllers upwards to walk" or head-bob tracking to walk,it is better than natural locomotion(Similar Software on Steam),but with the Kat stuff you can use your hands just for aiming/shooting/interacting with objects only, and your feet just for walking. Because it's $10, don't expect too much.
@@justacooldudeuknow28 Before someone tried anything DecaGear related, i wouldn't consider that name as a real brand with real products. They can claim anything they want, but in the end of day only solid products can prove themselves.
Personally I think that in place running doesn't work because when you bob up and down from the running motion, it moves the heavy hmd up and down and makes it slide across your face causing lost comfort and clarity
I am a bit worried about this too, but I own a reverb g2 and is pretty lightweight and I did a test today by just doing the walk an running motion (without owning the kat loco s) and didn't have any issues.
If you have timestamps in video then why not in video description? If they would be in description then youtube player would recoginse. Only if you 0:00 as starting timestamp.
Very good testing ! After this test can you tell us if we can use the Kat Loco S on a fitness trampoline ? With the software can we modify the longer steps recognitions for walk in place on parabolic antenna or with rollers please !
Thank you! This was a great review vid. I get motion sickness from moving around using the thumb sticks so this seems like a great alternative. But I also don't have a PC capable of VR and am playing it on a Quest. I hope that we get something like this working natively on the Quest! Thank you KatVR!
Awesome, thank you so much for doing the review before the sale ended! I have been checking almost daily for reviews of this and it looks like exactly what I am looking for.
The long calibration process is NOT required with the KatVR Loco S (calibration takes the time required to press the button on the waist sensor). I received my Kat VR Loco S a few days ago and it works great with my Valve Index. However I cannot get it to work with my Windows Mixed Reality headset (i.e. HP Reverb G2). Is anyone using the KatVR Loco S with a Windows Mixed Reality headset (I'm especially interested if you are using it with the HP Reverb G2)??
Any word on using this for full body tracking? I know the original Loco had the feature but it was very rudimentary, if they improved on it for this version it would be much more interesting.
Holy crap I just noticed something. Omg this may be a scandal. So Eric.. I just got the G2 and like you I have led strips in my playspace. For the majority of my G2 usage I experienced "acceptable tracking" nothing like the horror show COSMOS Tracking you displayed in your video. Then while watching this video I noticed this 5:53 I will say for a fact. That if I turn my led lighting on while in the G2 i experience the same trash tracking to describe. Just to be sure I went back to your review and watxhed it again and it seems like you like to have the leds on. Can you try it again but turn the leds off? Something isn't adding up.
Something no established vr reviewer can cover, at least from personal experience, is whether this helps with motion sickness, since everyone seems to have no issues with it after years of getting used to it. I can manage Echo VR for half an hour, but in any standing game with continuous motion, the moment I push the thumbstick forward I start feeling nauseous. I've been in boats with bad weather, bungie jumping, never had a problem. Continuous motion in vr? Can't do it 😕
I talked about the kat loco A lot on my Channel videos and do Bunch of demonstrations on it too, and Eric Just about said the same thing that I say except you forgot one thing, I think is only good for single player games, not multiplayer, specially not competitive multiplayer But, I find it actually quite good with population one.
Yeah I was hoping for a little more on input on if the experience was actually enjoyable in his opinion, as when I was looking into it, I ultimately assumed that it would feel gimmicky and more like a hassle after awhile. I will check out your videos!
They need to work on differentiating walking from running. Ie- I’m playing fallout VR and can never walk anywhere. I have to jog to walk. And that gets irritating. The cardio is great, but I want to be able to walk, to walk, and jog to jog. I don’t want to jog at all times.
This is good for people who have small spaces. I like to move around my space with my actual body. I might try this at some point though just to try it. I like the multi directional treadmill better although that is way more expensive. Or the floor sensor one where you use the slippers.
Hi Eric, I don't suppose you have or could try the kat loco whilst using VD, I'm just concerned about interference. Thanks for the video, good work as always 👍
I received a KATVR Loco s that was faulty or the software/hardware is very poor. Would not connect properly with Steam and when it occasionally connected, you had to lift your knees almost to you chin to get it to recognise a moment. Software has to be downloaded from kat vr site, and windows warn about it being unsecured. Total nightmare. Avoid save yourself time and money.
Great review! Sadly, I ordered these a month ago, and I still don't have them. First their warehouse messed up the order, then their shipper lost it. Cool tech, poor on actually delivering it.
By then there will be better options that you'll want instead, then you'll say 'I'll wait till this new item is cheaper', then by then it will be overtaken by a new thing. Endless cycle where you get nothing in the end and just wait forever.
Hi, I've tried to move in games kinda like this guy does th-cam.com/video/pW6nlLV88Zk/w-d-xo.html : I go from one corner of my room to another and when the guardian mesh appears I rotate the game with me. He calls it "walking about". The thing is, in some games, I end up in the air (Orbus, Apex Construct), while others require me to move much faster than I can - either the gameplay is too intense or the landmarks and interior features are too far in between (Journey of the Gods, The Under presents). From your experience, what other games would be fun to play this way?
Ffs ... the easier route is putting a wiimote in your pocket .. pretty much same thing by the looks of it But how about game devs make an option for 1x motion controller gameplay and use the other motion controller with an attatchment for the thigh/leg Vr is good but all its going to do is open flood gates for lots of garbage accessories that are not needed. I would like to see motion pressured shoe soles and a game that can support it properly But lets be honest ... running on the spot doesnt really work and tredmils have came along way but still not natural enough,i think the best option i can think is a harness much like a baby bouncer and proper motion tracked and pressure sensitive shoes .. your not going to get much better than that unless you think further out of the box and it really shouldnt cost much either, the tech is there and not expensive at all
I'd prefer to skip this bouncing. It reminds me of RingFit and that was exhausting. I'm still ready for nerve gear though. In a perfect world ill play while my body sleeps, then do whatever i like during the day.
Careful brother. You don't want to get into the hole of covering bullshit because you get free stuff. I appreciate You saying you were going to be honest but didn't say that you were going to be objective. It's impossible in this situation for you to be objective. If you were given the item to review and then returned it, that would lend more credit to a claim. but if you're keeping these, you are incapable of being objective because you've accepted something in exchange. I mean the fact that you're doing this video whatsoever is literal proof that you're keeping up your end of the exchange and their end was sending it to you. That is "proof positive' that an exchange happened. I only bother to say this because you're one of the few on here that I give any respect to and seem to have at least a rudimentary grasp of ethics And realize being someone on TH-cam is not something you retire from. You serve your audience first, not your wallet. So keep it up but tread lightly. I appreciate your work either way.
I don’t get paid for these just to clarify. Never once had a paid sponsor on purpose (why oculus and I are on bad terms) but I understand your comment and thank you for it
Conceptually interesting, but mincing around on tippytoe in one spot is a big fat stupid pass! How much closer are we once again to a technology as ridiculous as the Kinect when it comes to playing a game? The "Tippytoe Dance of Shame" for games is way too much of a ridiculous concept and physically nonsensical as a way to move in a game. It looks stupid, this isn't way you move IRL, its work and it is not cheap. Roomscale should be the only way you move in a gameworld if you're going to be given a way to physically move in a game.
