  • Watch as I make up some Surf Fishing Air Cannon Carolina Rig bait slugs for surf fishing with my DIY Air Cannon. I'm using flat weights for this Carolina rig. They seem to hold bottom better when surf fishing. I prefer the Carolina rig for this as there's less tangling and is an overall cleaner presentation. Surf fishing bait slugs are convenient, just hook them up and launch them!
    Incidentally, the molds are 8" long.

    Family recently got a near the beach house and I’ll be there in the off season. This whole bait cannon idea is truly amazing thank you so much. It’ll change the whole idea of not having to wade out into the freezing waters that is peak surf fishing for our area. Just got to make the damn thing!

    Excellent information on creating the Carolina rigs, baiting the bullets etc. Tight lines!

    Hey, Brother...Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I made my cannon, though I couldn't find the same trigger you have in 1 1/2" size so I used a PVC valve. I haven't tried it yet but I am probably going to make a better handle for the valve. Just learned about the bullets, once again, thank you! I live in Homer Alaska.

    I was having trouble with the ends of my bait bullets. looks like you have solved my problem. I was using pvc end caps and they leave a ledge which won't fit into the barrel. Thanks

    Did u use dry ice to keep it frozen?? I tried it with regular ice but it melts to fast.. and dunno if dry ice wil freeze burn the bait

    • @ExtremeDIYGuy
      @ExtremeDIYGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used super cold ice packs I made myself (see link below). I think dry ice would be fine as long as you keep it separated from the bait with a few layers of cardboard.

    So you pull the caps off & the slug will slide or pull out easily?
    The 1 1/2” slug diameter is the same as your cannon?

    • @ExtremeDIYGuy
      @ExtremeDIYGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I spray the insides with menhaden oil to make it easier to slide out.

    Also, do you have trouble getting your frozen bait out of the bullet ?

    • @ExtremeDIYGuy
      @ExtremeDIYGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I spray the inside with fish oil before pouring in the contents and freezing. Slides right out!

      I experimented with this and in the summer the ice melts off in about a minute

    How much does each round weigh?

    • @ExtremeDIYGuy
      @ExtremeDIYGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question, I have never weighted them and they are all empty tight now. As a guess, I would say about 10-16 oz. Really depends on the size weight you use.

    Mine shot the bait and my fishing rod with it out into the surf. So if you see a fishing rod waterskiing on by, please report the coordinates, Thanks.

    If i wanted a pressure relief valve how or where could i add one on the cannon

    • @ExtremeDIYGuy
      @ExtremeDIYGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would put it in the pressure tank, probably on the end cap since the PVC is thicker there.

      Ey man is there any way I can send you some photos? Or video call?....😁 I just finished the tank and the valve...gonna just pressure test

    Please research the pulley rig and see if it will apply to surf fishing...

    • @ExtremeDIYGuy
      @ExtremeDIYGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looked that up and it is an intriguing rig. I'm certain it would work for surf fishing, just not sure if it will fit in a bait slug though.
