How far in the sand do you push the aluminum angle to make it hold securely. I want to make it long enough so the reel will be at waist level after it’s pushed into the sand. About 18” maybe?
Thanks Andrew. My boys are very helpful. They each made their own rod holder with little help from me. Hopefully, it will last their lifetime and have memories making it with me. Rod holder is perfect length. It holds my 11 foot surf rod with no problem.
@@andrewcpham Since my surf rod holder is long and sturdy, I am able to wiggle it back and forth in the sand and get it down about 10 inches. Yes. I believe it would be easier to drive into the sand. I drive into the sand by wiggling it back and forth a few times. It is super stable. Never had my rod holder fall over.
Isn't the metal portion too short? I have been told that 36" should be the minimum you should have or you risk having a fish pull your rod out of the sand.
Nice idea. A couple of suggestions ….. Stainless steel bolts and use wing nuts vs lock nuts. Much easier to disassemble for storage

You can use 4 or 5 foot u-post that's what I used to make mine and they work great!!!

I normally can only drive the stake into the ground about 18 inches. I have not had any problem with staking pulling out or falling over yet.

I bought my aluminum on ebay. Although, I have seen the aluminum being sold at local Home Depot store.
