To make matters worse: this cartoon series got a video game tie in... on the JAGUAR CD!

"O.K., are we in Scotland, or Australia?!" *Facepalms* Dude, there's a town in Scotland called Dundee, which the city in Australia is named for. I theorise that the desert city is somewhere in the Yorkshire Moors, just with all the loam reduced to sand, and the vegetation stripped.

How do you explain the boomerang? Cultural exchange?

The concept of boomerangs isn’t exclusive to Australia, you know.

I have a vague memory of an episode that involved an immortal who was suffering from radiation sickness. That's kinda dark for a show like this.

Radiation sickness with no way to die forever

I can't say I liked this cartoon, back in the 90s; I watched it, I later bought the DVDs, and rewatched it, I do occasionally hir up TH-cam for little snippets I do like, and I did watch this, but I have to confess it was silly, and still is silly. The animation could be poor, and they reused a few shots more than a Super Sentai show, like Voltron, with a combine sequence each episode did. I liked a few of the ideas; I really liked Fallout, where one immortal's ability becomes a curse, but I REALLY didn't like the lack of growth, or evolution, throughout the series. By the end, Quentin had received the Quickening of something like two dozen immortals; at least the significant majority of all of them that still exist, that Kortan hadn't gotten to, yet he was the same weak, dumb, bumbling kid he didn't want people to think he was. He absorbed knowledge about atomic power, atomic weapons, satellite technology, oceanography, robotics, genetics, and more, as well as the combat skulls, and memories, of those Jettitors, yet he didn't "improve". He never used any of that knowledge, even if sure, it wasn't all useful combat skills, so each episode felt totally self-enclosed, and pointless. There also never seem led to be more resistance. Sure, those immortals lost that, and a few died, bit it might've seemed better to know that, once they had given their power to McLeod, they were in the background, preparing to help him. Sure, I'm an adult trying to judge a cartoon simply made for kids, but I watched HeMan, GI Joe, and Transformers, back in the 80s. I watched Voltron, TMNT, and others, as a kid, and as an adult, and I still feel this way about this. I didn't hate it, obviously, but I did expect more from it, and acknowledge that it was silly.

I actually realy liked this show as it realy works, it pays respect to the movies with callbacks and elements while making it appeal to kids. Hell i liked it as a kid

copy/pasted my comment from Rowdy C:
I don’t think you can count The New Adventures Of He-Man. It was based on Mattel taking the original Masters Of The Universe idea and basically reversing things. Instead of magic with a hint of science it was now science with a hint of magic. Although I wouldn’t be surprised to learn the Highlander cartoon was a retooled concept.
I also wonder how much advertising of the movie and series played into creating kid versions of R properties. Ads for RoboCop shown during the family hour, for example, would just be a cyborg cop fighting crime. Ads for the Rambo movies is just Rambo fighting bad guys, probably with explosions but little to no death. (Again, family hour. Movie studios weren’t going to give up prime advertising space just because half the target audience couldn’t see the movie.) And Highlander is a big swordfight, which kids would find cool. The series however…well, it was better than Mortal Kombat: Defenders Of The Realm. How’s that for faint praise? The series didn’t work for me and I was never a die-hard Highlander fan.

The t.v suits, series writers and directors ... underplay early 90's nostalgia. They try to pull the "wool over us"

Honestly, 3/4ths of USA Network original cartoons could qualify for TV Trash. Problem Child, The dumbed down kidsafe-d Savage Dragon, Highlander, Street Fighter dub; none wore worth watching.
