I love how your playing isn't all cookie cutter. It doesn't follow the exact sheet music, which gives it a more calm, relaxed, and slightly jazzy tone! Amazing sound for a bass clarinet! ❤
my best friend played the clarinet in our school’s wind ensemble. she died a month ago and i’m listening to bass clarinet stuff bc it reminds me of her
I'd need to hear you to be certain. You can email me sound. Really the trick on the bcl is connecting the registers. Took me a few years of intensive practice
I trying to do this on Bflat clarinet (the notes are the same) But Its very hard to keep up because I've just started. I would be nice to show the whole sheet music afterwards
Yes indeed, there is an altissimo register that you can finger up to the C an octave higher than that (beyond the Bb the fingerings become ambiguous). You could go higher than that, but the tone begins to loose its richness the more you extend into the stratosphere
A lot has to do with the setup; quality and size of reed and the type of mouthpiece. If you have that figured out to your liking, I would play scales of your choice throughout the entire range of the clarinet. Tongue every note crisply. Go as slow as possible and as fast as possible. Use a metronome to push both boundaries. Focus on precision. Then I would slur one and tongue one and play as slow and as fast as you can without loosing any precision. Work on playing slower and faster with a metronome and push both boundaries. Good luck!
my main is Bb clarinet but i also play tenor sax and i really want to play bass clarinet because its such a cool instrument but my director wont let me😔
@@CoffeeAndColtrane I'm in 8th grade and he said it was because he wanted me to keep getting better on Bb even though i’m already really good at it. @@the_influencer_council_leader Upon further thoughts, I think you might be talking about the swing. Perhaps this is what you’re referring to. The swing?

Bass clarinet is the coolest instrument ever created! Well, with the occasional exception maybe
I like this bass clarinet take on a traditional trumpet part
I’m glad you enjoyed it!

After watching a contrabass clarinet, bass clarinets sound so high now.
🤣 that contra goes so low
Yep
Nice bass clarinet
Thanks so much!
I just started to learn how to play bass clarinet recently. Any tips for a new player? (I'm switching from trumpet)
Work on connecting the registers effortlessly. It’s the most noticeable thing to me that differentiates beginner from intermediate players
I love bass clarinet in my band class for 5th grade
The bass clarinet is one of the hippest instruments ever created

Nice Cuzco Andean sweater
Thanks! I bought it in the artesanal market in Cusco
I play trumpet and i want to know if the bcl is in Bb or not
Yes indeed the bcl is in Bb. It is one octave beneath the tpt
Eb on top
I just started band so maybe my like stamina in breath isn’t good enough yet but I can’t go that long in between without breathing
It can be a number of things, such as reed strength, mouthpiece, time spent blowing air through the horn. How long have you been playing?
I’m day two of bass clarinet and I can play most of it
Very nice! Keep it up. I have a few other play alongs you might enjoy
@@CoffeeAndColtrane ok I’ll try but I was told I have potential because i don’t know how to respond to that person so yeah

If only I knew the notes, I was 100% play this but I am still a beginner and they play bass clarinet but I’ll try when I actually know the notes
Bass clarinet is so underrated and is definetly better than saxophone
Bass clarinet might be the coolest and funnest instrument to play
Is that a low c extension?
Yes indeed!
Wow, that’s amazing!
just curious, can a bass clarinet go over the high c (by which i mean register key and thumb key)
Yes indeed, there is an altissimo register that you can finger up to the C an octave higher than that (beyond the Bb the fingerings become ambiguous). You could go higher than that, but the tone begins to loose its richness the more you extend into the stratosphere

It would sound great on Tbn too

Can u send me a copy of the whole sheet of music

1.5 strength reed?
3.5 vandoren

I just listened to the original to see if perhaps one of the leaps isn’t an octave. All 6 times he sings it, it is an octave
