    Thank you so much! I am 74 years old but never to old to learn something new. I probably won't be trying it myself but I like to know what I am paying for. I might have tried it myself but it is 206 degrees outside. Thanks again!!!!

    Strongly recommend attaching a rope to pipe below pitiless adapter. This can help retrieve pipe if the tool to remove pitiless adapter comes loose or pitless adapter breaks.

    great video! this gives me the courage (lol) to attempt pulling mine on my own because my pump lost prime and i suspect the foot valve. thanks!

    FYI....It is called a pitless adapter, and you should put silicone grease on the O-ring before you put the pipe back into the well and reconnect the pitless adapter.

    A couple thoughts.
    1. You have to be pretty careful when you get the pipe loose from the Quick disconnect - say its deeper than you realized and the pipe is galvanized iron pipe (and its likely full of water). That can be a lot of weight and the person pulling might loose control and mash their hands as the T of removal tool hits the top of the well casing.. A second person with a pipe wrench on the tool might keep from loosing control.
    2. I cringed as I saw him with the pipe and the quick disconnect over the open well casing without the removal tool already attached. What if he dropped it in the casing before attaching the tool. Big problem. Be safe, assume s..t will happen.

    • @Mydriasis100
      @Mydriasis100 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a foot valve. Which is used for a shallow well. It's not going to be galvanized pipe because it's only 20' to 50' deep. He dud a fine job.
      You don't know what your talking about.

      It's just 1" Black iron pipe. You make it with a 6' length or 1" pipe, a tee fitting, and 2 shirt 6"x1" nipples.

    @JeffDeanTheDeanZone 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm thinking that you should have fixed the leak in the pipe that leads to the house first because that leak could have been causing a loss of prime and pressure. Might not have had to change the foot valve.

      You could be right. Where were you 2 years ago? I was on a mission and didn't actually notice the leak until later. It was good practice anyhow.

    Not a bad DIY job. My jet pump turns on about every 20mins so I think I should change my foot valve as well. Do you remember the diameter of the removal tool? Also is it just standard NPT?

    • @gerardjuravich280
      @gerardjuravich280  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The removal tool is 1 inch. Standard pipe threads. The 6' tool was only $20 at the plumbing supply store. The issue I was having was that the pump stayed on without pumping water. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project.

    Did You have to unscrew the pipe that's going into the house? Will the actual well pipe come out without you digging down into the ground and removing that pipe? I'm having the same issue I can't keep prime in my pump's going to burn up I just need to know if I have to unscrew that area where you said you had a leak first or can I just pull that pipe up once I get access to it with that tool The t-bar tool?

    • @gerardjuravich280
      @gerardjuravich280  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its been awhile, but I'll give it a try.
      I didn't have to unscrew the pipe going to the house.
      The pipe should come out without digging into the ground. You should be able to access it from top of the well by removing the well cover.
      It turns out that the leak or the bad foot valve could have caused the pump not holding prime. So they are actually 2 separate issues and should be performed separately.

    Great video. We have had a lot of rain for the past couple months. Last week we had yet another bad storm. Our power clicked off and then back on before the whole house generator kicked on. Later I noticed air coming out of faucets before water. I figured it was because of the power being clicked off in the storm. Then we noticed rust in the water. Now I still have air four days later but the rust is gone. Some suggest foot valve. Some say it's probably because of lightening hitting well casing and knocking the rust off. Any ideas? Our closest well company is about 130 miles away. Thanks!

    How do you know you are not driving the foot valve into the mud? How do you know where you are at with regard to the bottom of the well? 1' above bottom? 3' above bottom or 10' above bottom? what is the recommended height above bottom???

    • @gerardjuravich280
      @gerardjuravich280  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't worry about the bottom since I was replacing a old valve. I didn't change the length of the pipe going to the bottom. If I was installing a new pipe or a pipe for the first time, I would need to take that into consideration, but I would think who drilled a new well would know how deep it was.

  • @frybry01

    None of the new foot valves come with the pipe coupling like they did 4 yrs ago when I replaced it so now you have to buy a coupling also.

    My electric went off for a few hours. When it came back on the water didnt work. We tried to prime it last night but the pump just makes a humming sound, then cuts off and on and off.. any suggestions??

    • @Angelofloveandhappiness
      @Angelofloveandhappiness ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxnorcrest9563 we ended up buying a new pump. But it's funny u should ask, because this pump keeps messing up. I have to tap the little black box on the side of it. But other times we have to keep priming it to get it on. Idk if it loses prime because of the box shorting out. I dont see any ants in the box or dirt so idk why it keeps doing it. The water is off as we speak

    • @maxnorcrest9563
      @maxnorcrest9563 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine was doing that it I needed a new check valve between pump and well pipe
      But water stopped after that a little while later water went after that I think my foot valve is cloged or check valve stuck shut in well
      I got a new pump after the hum burned out from no check valve and did the on a few off few days thing after got that new check valve great but now stops getting water screen/foot Valve cloged
      Could be that or your pressure tank not holding
      If it gets hot then not getting enuff water to keep cool and it's not holding in pump

  • @kenhilson786
    @kenhilson786 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you know if it's the foot valve..
    I had a leak in my hose and when I fixed the leak I lost my pressure...then nothing . now it won't prime...
    Up until this point it was fine with lots of pressure
    Pumps about 20yrs old

    • @vincemorasco4784
      @vincemorasco4784 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ran into this many years ago. Well guy came out, replaced foot valve. 2 weeks later, still lousy pressure. And losing prime. My issue turned out to be lousy sealing between well casing and old adapter. Casing rusted and wouldn't hold pressure. Found it during rainy weather. Saturated ground, and bubbles on the side of the well casing.

      I bought it at a local plumbing supply store. Inside the well is a pitless adapter which allows the pipes to be connected from inside the well to the outside. I took a picture of it and they knew exactly what I needed. Look at

    What if the foot valve is leaking?

    • @gerardjuravich280
      @gerardjuravich280  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the foot valve is leaking the pump won't hold prime and therefore no water pressure.

    • @gerardjuravich280
      @gerardjuravich280  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Water needs to stay in the pipe from the well to the pump. The foot valve holds the water in the pipe. If the water leaks out the pump will not be able to pull the water from the well.

      Use chlorinated pond water that usually has neurotoxins added (because lobbyist care about teeth LoL) instead of fresh ground water? Lol? If the rust freaks you out, you wouldnt want to look in the miles of city pipe. Just unscrew the screen on your sink and look up in the faucet. It'll be 'gross'.
