I’m a licensed plumber and I approve this video. I wanted to find an accurate and correct video to send to my friend who lives too far away for me to help him in person. You’re a good job
I am slightly confused by one thing; maybe this is because I have a blatterless tank. I have always filled my tank with air to 38 (it's a 40/60 tank & system) and then added water via the pump. This gent fills the top of the tank to 26 (I don't have a valve at the top to fill on mine) and it looks like the PSI goes from 0 to 50 from just running the pump.
@@wrxmarcus2i have never installed a bladderless tank but what you said sounds correct. I’m guessing it is older? We typically rip them out along with any galvanized and start fresh.
Gosh, I can't express my gratitude enoungh. We are really getting a,better understand our well system because of good people willing to freely share this kind of information. My husband and I were able to easily replace our pressure switch. A $33 part saved us along with your instructions. Nothing better to us than having our own water system, but it definitely has to be maintained. Thankyou , thank you!
This Vietnam veteran just lost his well pressure 4 days ago no water and a young electrician came to my home today and discovered exactly what you revealed the problem was. He didn't want to do the work that you suggested to do but I will find someone who will and hopefully there is smart as you are and they won't charge me a body part that doesn't work anymore. Thank you and God bless and Semper Fi from this Vietnam combat veteran

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. My switch has needed resetting a few times in past day so I'm guessing it might need replacing. I'm thinking first I might try cleaning the points with a little sand paper. Your instructions are very clear thankyou again.
Performed this job today. Your video gave me the confidence to try it- $50 for new one and electrical sensor for safety! Was outside with my wife for no longer than 40 minutes.
I really appreciate your video. I had an electrician from a company come screw my house up, and claim my pump had gone bad during the time he put a new panel in. I knew he had screwed up wiring because there wasn't the right voltage getting to the switch or pump. He claimed it was the pump, then the switch. I replaced the old one with this kind, but still with not enough voltage, didn't make a difference. But I didn't know about what to do with the new one having the switch. I suffer brain damage and I forget how to do things and even worse I question myself so badly that I don't want to try because of not being able to remember. But having something I can compare what I do, and have it as if someone's there with me talking me through it, helps a whole lot. Thanks.

Great video! Very well explained. Got home from town today and discovered my water was no longer flowing. I don’t know much about wells and pumps but I was able to watch this video and have a good understand. Seems my pressure switch is fine and it very well could be my pump. Gonna call the company that installed the well and holding tank tomorrow for further assistance.
Thank you for sharing this. Made my life easy today when our water stopped flowing. This is a 30 - 45 minute fix. One tip I learned though, look inside the cover to determine which pressure switch you need. They come in 20 - 40, 30 -50, or 40 - 60. I had to make 2 trips to Lowes which luckily wasn't too bad.
Holy crap. Live in northern Michigan. It's currently the middle of winter and i thought my pipes were frozen. You my friend explain everything slow and easy with very good camera work. I feel confident i can change this out tomorrow. Thank you!
@gregpryorhomestead Hey Buddy I just wanted to thank you. You see today was my 30th birthday and only a few hours before I was set to go out for a very nice dinner with family while the kids stayed back at home I lost this pressure control unit on my well pump. With the help of your video I was able to buy and install a new switch in time to shower for dinner. Thanks 🙏
Thanks for the great video. In my part of the country, getting a plumber to come out on the weekend is impossible. With the help of your video, I brought my pump back from the dead and probably saved a lot of money. Thanks!
Thank you for this video , I replaced my switch this morning. Mine was a 40/60 and was all burnt out and would not kick on till it dropped to about15 lbs.also fixed what I think was waterlogged tank by emptying then adding back correct pressure. Again thanks for posting!
Oh dude, you saved me! I replaced my tank, flipped the breaker back on, and... nothing. I didn't realize you had to pull up on that little lever on the switch to fill the tank up the first time. Thanks for the video!
From El Salvador, just today November 14/2020 I saw this very interesting video on how to regulate a wel pressure switch, I like to be a DIY and this video was very helpful
I have an older switch and my new one is like the one in the video and I don't really understand the wiring diagram and your video didn't answer that for me. But the rest of it was great.
I have four well pumps on my farm and all have the "low pressure cutoff" style switch (with the little manual lever). Normally, the switch will kick on the pump when the pressure drops. However, if this fails due to the well running dry, and the pressure continues to drop to near zero, the low-pressure cutoff will shut down the switch and won't turn on again until the lever is moved to start position. This saves the pump motor from overheating or dry seals burning from the pump running fruitlessly non-stop. Worth the extra few dollars for the LPC pressure switch by far. However, if you have a blackout or cut power to the pump, that the pump may have to be manually started at the PS if the pressure had dropped in the meantime (due to leaks, livestock tank filling, or someone flushed the toilet).
Thanks for a jam up job explained how to do it properly.....just one thing you may want to add, I just replaced a presure switch and it was fried beyond recognition! Meaning I couldnt tell which wire was hooked where. I had to guess at wire placement. It literally looked like it was in a house fire. Im not sure if I did it right even though the well pump works and delivers water to the home, I would like to see proper wire placement to compare what I have installed. Submersibe with 230 volt 3 wire. Thanks for your fine video!! Dan
Thanks! Great, clear directions on how to do this. Made it really easy. The only hard part was getting the fittings to cooperate that held the switch onto the pump. But, maybe I needed a deer assistant LOL
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! My contact points look rough, switch still works ok. But, might not be a bad idea for me to get ahead of it and replace, as you have done!
Nice video! Wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything before I took the old one off. Thank you! Quick edit. For those of use who are memory challenged and who get interrupted, I like to take a picture of the wiring before hand with your phone. Then when you go to put it back together and start second-guessing yourself you just refer to the picture quick. --cheers
This rocked. Thanks so much for taking the time and for the excellent instruction without wasting any time. Also, I will purchase a glow necklace for my pet deer.
Great guide. The only thing i saw that was different for my experience doing it, was the wire colors. For me the colors go Black, white, white, then black again. Other than that, everything you showed was accurate. For a side note, when putting on the new switch, make sure you do not over tighten it. Also if its in a weird position, sometimes it helps if you screw it on some and then put the wire on it, then finish screwing it on tight. Main thing tho is make sure the power it off.
On a 230v AC Motor, one wire is Hot L1, the other wire is Hot L1, and the third wire is ground. The having the colors change at the pressure switch won't hurt anything as long as it is just L1 and L2 that get flipped. Ideally, you would have a pair of wires the same color on the left and the other color would be the pair on the right on the pressure switch in the video. It doesn't hurt anything if the colors are wrong as long as they end up going to the right places. Just properly wired would mean they are matched up and then go to L1 and L2 on the motor. The other way of saying it: the motor doesn't care if you have the two power wires hooked up to L1 and L2 or reversed as L2 as and L1... It'll work the same either way on my a 230v AC Motor. Usually you wouldn't use white at all for 230v electrical, install preferring red and black for L1/L2.
Will the water start to immediately fill the tank at first start while holding the lever in start. Or could it take a minute or two or whatever. ? Great helpful video thanks
