Appreciate that more interface manufacturers are including virtual routing. This one looks like it could be a real competitor to some of the smaller Scarlett interfaces.
I love the progress being made by audio interface manufacturers. I'm really hoping virtual routing, mute buttons, and mix-minus become the norm for these devices. Another reviewer compared it to the Focusrite. www.thepodcasthost.com/equipment/maono-ps22-review/
@@The-Weekend-Warrior thank you for the insightful comment. I'll dig back into the listed measurements in a more practical way the next time I review an interface.
I would recommend a cheaper alternative like this: amzn.to/4eeIvqc for "casual" music. The PS22 is more of a streaming/content creation device in my opinion.
LOL! I went down that exact same road when they told me about it. I don't know of another 2x2 interface that has two USB-C outputs, plus a power switch, loopback, and the routing software. It's a big step for Maono and I'm hoping it forces other companies to add similar features.
If i use both the pc and ios cable, will i be able to also hear both the audio from my pc and from my ios device using the interface's monitor device??
That's a really good question. Let me reach out to Maono and see if they'll respond to this. I'll write myself a note and comment back here if/when they get back to me. Thanks for the great question.
Angela from Maono sent this as a response: You can use both the PC and iOS cables simultaneously to hear audio from both devices through the interface's monitor output. However, please note that while you can monitor audio from both sources, the audio from these sources cannot be mixed into the recording. I hope that helps.
I'd take the 2i2 3rd gen over the PS22 because there have been some quality issues with the PS22 from people I am confident are telling the truth. I haven't had any issues but more than one person has told me they have.
My Audition is the last version they would allow you to actually own. That's why it looks so weird. It still works perfectly and houses all my plugins.
I'm finding a routing software + interface for my mic. You think what is better between this maono routing software vs Steelseries Sonar. Use: Gaming, Streaming, Discord, Record ( voice over - hobby )
I use a Mullti channel mixer and 10 channels M-Audio soundcards what would I use this little thing for? The mics I use are from China they sound super good and cost pretty much nothing. I also have two ada 8200 mic preamps so I am good thanks
Nice unit. The one thing where I'd have to disagree, $120 for a 2-in/2-out isn't budget, that is going rate for a good piece. Which, from the looks of it, this very much is. Budget is a lot cheaper; the B* U-Phoria is something like $70. But from the features and what you describe, it is the Focusrite that they are considering their competition. 🙂
I can definitely see your point. But, I think the term budget depends on comparative items. At $399 the SM7B is budget compared to the $799 Audix PDX720. I use the term because a solid comparison I'd consider is the 3rd gen Focusrite 2i2. That doesn't have routing software, two USC-C ports, a power switch, mix knob, mono stereo switch, TRRS output, etc. Comparatively speaking I would term this a budget device.
@@FreePodcastTools LMAO! Never let a professional sound engineer hear you call an SM7B "budget." Or an SM57, for that matter. The phrase you're looking for is "inexpensive." Usually with the word "relatively" in front of it. I do get your point. I just shiver when I see "budget" applied to what appears a premium piece that happens to be affordable. 😀 Trivia: What mic did Michael Jackson use to record Thriller? Hint: it wasn't a $20k Telefunken...
@@celebril everyone knows MJ used the iconic Shure SM7! Before that album he couldn't afford the "B". LOL! KIDDING! I will choose my words differently. ;) I'll say cheaper price, lower cost, more affordable, less expensive, and relatively inexpensive. Better? LOL! ;) I love my SM7B, but I feel like I could podcast with my Zoom ZDM-1 for $49 and be just fine. Thanks for the laugh. I needed that today.
The only part of this video that is compromised is the screen grab portion of the video that was recorded with Camtasia and then got exported to Davinci Resolve. Inside Resolve the WAV file looks compressed (lacks dynamic range) so I'm assuming Camtasia does something to the audio. All other portions of the video are "as is". I don't use processing plugins on any of my videos (unless it was a review of a plugin).

Almost yes, definitively for non current models or people on a smaller budget
@@DarkTrapStudiocost seems to be what a lot of streamers and podcasters look at first.
@@FreePodcastTools With sound quality in mind !
@@DarkTrapStudio definitely! Very true.
FINALLY, a power switch on a budget interface.
Power and mute buttons should be standard on all interfaces at this point IMO. We're making progress, my friend.
Notice that -127dbV EIN is around 124,5dBu EIN, and it's important when we compare it to other interfaces.
even when the other interface uses the same quantitative measurement?
@@FreePodcastTools Either way, keep in mind that db is an exponential scale, not a linear one...

I would recommend a cheaper alternative like this: amzn.to/4eeIvqc for "casual" music. The PS22 is more of a streaming/content creation device in my opinion.
It seems a logical step to do a smaller and cheaper version with same functionality but just one mic input.
I would definitely go for a unit like that for $79 or so. I hope they do that. I also hope it prompts other companies to add these features.
Most ADC chips are built in input pairs. That is why you see two input interfaces.
