Thank you for the review man i appreciate it, i was thinking to buy it , now that i heard the flaws of the product it’s better find another audio interface God speed on your channel your videos have been a great help!
I also have a PS22 and for $120 I think it's pretty good. I like how you can record to more than one device at the same time through the different outputs on the back. Also, did you by any chance have your monitor knob not all the way to the left when you were direct monitoring? When I monitor my mic directly I don't get any delay. I'm wondering if maybe you were monitoring through your daw or a mix of direct/daw.
I didn't get a DELAY per se'......just an artificial sound that was far from the sound of the mic. Funny ...I literally just got done watching your video of it.
That preamp had more hiss than a rattlesnake choir. Especially at that price when you don't have to spend much more for a stronger interface. Back to the drawing board for Maono I guess.
This video was a tale of two halves: hope and optimism to great disappointment. I was hyped by the individual phantom power too, but as we’ve discussed, the poor monitoring is a dealbreaker. Appreciate the honesty.
Awesome and honest review! U really had high expectations on this, finally Maono launches a 24 bits/192khz interface and they didn’t well. On my perspective, the monitoring has been the weak point on their mixers and interfaces, saddly. Good review!
Geez, -35dB on 60dB of gain just from preamp? I think my old Behringer MIniMic800 which I find not the best preamp-wise doesnt go that high noise-wise having the same amount of gain... that's a bummer, cause as you said - from the first impressions it seemed like there is a LOT to like about that box.
I have been using this for last 6 months, build quailty and features are excellent as you said. The preamp noise after 9 o clock is pretty loud, so cannot really amplify the voice beyond this point and also it starts clipping badly after this point. I use AT2020. So basically we are stuck with recording voice at lower level than you desire. @obscuremics So if we increase the gain to 1o clock due to high preamp noise does it start clipping.... Is this correct? Or something the interface is not capable of handling.
Don’t get me wrong but a microphone reviewer would not judge a mic by listening to the direct monitoring because of bone conduction. When you speak, you not only hear your voice through the air but also through your bones, which is why it sounds different when recorded. But as a reviewer, you have rightfully pointed out its flaws.
Makes sense. I trust the headphones I use …so I gotta keep rolling as I’ve done…. As every sound source is going to change things at least incrementally. Definitely a valid point of course. Also thank you for watching
Good reviews, bro, I appreciate your honest, which is of great benefit for a brand that wants to do better. I am looking for budget mic and mixer recently and has locked Maono‘s PD200X and C2NEO, how do you like their C2NEO audio interface?
My presonus audiobox go hisses at close to max gain. Idk if that is a major issue. I only have a cheap samson q7 dynamic mic and it needs lots of gain to just get heard on my studio headphones. So i just turn my gain just enough for my mic to sound. So i am not sure which is the culprit-my mic or the interface. But i do agree that the audiobox go headphone out is not that powerful.
It's the interface. The q7 is like most dynamics and needs a good amount of gain. But the audio box go has average preamps like most budget interfaces IMO
@@ObscureMics oh thanks for the reply. Well..i'll have to settle with this thing for now. At least having an interface is a step up from recording my key oard performances directly over usb midi and my talkingheads using a cheap v8s soundcard. So maybe i should aim for a cardiod condenser mic next? I'll have to resell my maono usb condenser mic now that i have the audiobox. Lol
I didn't LOVE the audio box go but id be lying if I said it wasn't good enough ....cause it really is. It's not super clean but it's clean enough. Id be fine using one as there is much worse out there. I wouldn't rush to upgrade
What sold me on buying this is that it can two mics hooked up and it can connect to my phone which is perfect if im on the go. Thanks for the heads up about the monitoring and preamps on which the preamps i wanted the most to be legit but will a separate application such nvidia take care of this issue? Thanks again man
That's a shame. Maybe it's just me but I'd like to see at least channel one input on the rear. For a desk setup I'd like to NOT have a mic cable running across my desk.
Are you going out of the outputs or is that noise direct via usb? If youre taking the outputs youre going through multiple output stages you dont need to. This has promise though.
Yeah....especially when the excitement hits about the power switch, Independent 48v, and the i/o. The headphone amp also just flat out killed it for me
I think I'm an enthusiast of PC gear... When I have a new keyboard or case, I expect it to respond to what they say in terms of quality, silence, comfort of the keys,... And when it does It's not a promise kept... Doubly disappointed. I think it's the same for you as an audio enthusiast. It was off to a good start, metal case, no need to find a mic booster because the phantom power is not separated from the two inputs, nickel output at the back, only the pan was missing on my side and a lower price maono (we would have had it with promos)... Still, I found that your voice was not as usual on the video, as for the problem of noise at full amp and the problem of the headphones. Thank you for your work and thanks also to Maono, too bad for us that they didn't do a touch down. Flute, damn and rezut! (english and french word at the end but it comes from the heart). It's annoying and sad at the same time... A version two or a patch unless they've already made thousands of them.
@@ObscureMicsa couple from the U-Phoria series. XLR inputs are spaced a little farther apart, though. For the money, in that price range, I'd go for the UMC-204HD.
@@ObscureMics though I do like the 48v on the front, as well as a physical power button on this one. But the signal just sounds dirty. If you haven't done one of the $100+ Behringer interfaces, you should check them out. Very clean.
@@ObscureMics can you give other interface recommendation beside the focusrite scarlett,? That is at par with the price of ps22 with much more refinement? Thanks
Man, individual phantom power switches on the *front*? And a dang power switch? Why isn't literally everyone doing this? Too bad about the drawbacks. I would not mind paying more for one of these if they didn't have that preamp noise and slight latency.
I bought this thing, it's garbage. It records both channels on to both tracks when recording two at the same time. It doesn't matter if you have the switch on stereo or mono. And this is after the firmware upgrade they sent me to fix the mono switch recording both channels on both tracks. They're update just made it worse. F*** garbage.

Sadly. Hank at free podcast tools says his is not that noisy...🤷
Focursite 2i2 3rd gen on Amazon for USA is the same price. I may agree with you tbh.
Also starts clipping very badly if we increase gain. Not sure if it's also this interface issue.

Nice review! I have known the brand MAONO for a long time. Their products are indeed well made and very trustworthy.
They are solid most of the time

Yep. And I'll always give them a chance ....but gotta keep it real
