    Running fine? it sounds like a ford transit!!

    I'd say it's your crank sensor that's the problem easy to check take it out if it's not magnetic it's stuffed

      Its all working good now on the original crank sensor

    Hi Gareth - thanks for the video
    Left field question - i noticed that you only have the old bulkhead insulation foam covering behind the air filter. Is there a reason why you removed it from across the width of the whole bulkhead? and does it impact noise transfer inside the car? I am looking at the new closed cell options as my original foam has seen better days but it looks like a mighty tricky job fitting it so any input would be helpful

      The short answer is that there is no reason!
      I can't remember removing any insulation, I think that it was like that when I bought the Mini. If I have removed any then it will be because it perished and fell apart.
      I've been looking at sound insulation too as the bulkhead insulation on project designer is completely perished.
      I don't think that my mini is any louder without the insulation, they are pretty loud cars to begin with 😁

    Hi, I have exact same problem, which ecu model did you replace?
    When you say ‘you reprogram ecu’ you mean to code the immobiliser?
    Thanx

    • @BlakesDen
      @BlakesDen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, code to the immobiliser

  • @hotdawg_og

    Whats involved in the reprogramming as i think i may need a new ecu aswell.

      It was really straight forward using the diagnostic tool, just a case of a few clicks to link it to the immobiliser.
      I've been told that the ECU's rarely fail, mine died due to a voltage surge when trying to jump start the car. If you get the diagnostic tool and cable then you'll be able to check if the ECU has failed or if a sensor has gone.

    Hi Gareth thanks for the video, it’s really helpful. I have a ‘98 MPi so found it interesting in case I need to diagnose a non start problem in future.
    Please could you link me to the T-300 tool plus mems/5as cable that works with the MPi Mini? That’d really be appreciated as there are so many different tools and connectors out there!
    Many thanks
    Duncan

      Hi Duncan
      Thanks for the view.
      This link should take you to the T300 tool ebay.us/rmRNCb. The prices have gone up a lot since I bought mine. You will also needs a MEMS/5AS cable from Technozen www.technozen-electronics.co.uk/t300-programming-cable-for-5as/.
      Your best option is to get a Pscan tool instead. The T300 tool is a Chinese clone and has no technical support whislt the PScan tool is under constant develop. The developer is a really firendly and helpful guy. Link to Pscan: pscan.uk/. I've got a seperate video of the Pscan tool in action on my channel.

      @@BlakesDen Thank you, your video review of both is super useful! I’ll make a decision and pick one up soon :) [Think I’ll go for pscan]

      Now all pscan have to do is add in the coil/injector tests like the T-300! I’m sure they’d be up for the challenge

      If you message Philip at Pscan I'm sure he could add it. He had one of my spare MPI ECUs for development purposes

      @@BlakesDen Hi Gareth, got my pscan the other day, so thanks again. All looks good. I was wondering what your cam position shows as with the engine on? Mine is 0 constantly?
      Also interesting that the oil temp shows as a fault despite the oil temperature working correctly in the live data!

    Wait, you fried your ECU when jumping your Mini? How did that happen?

    • @BlakesDen
      @BlakesDen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery was completely flat and I was using a very old mains powered charger/starter boost device which I assume had no over current protection. When I tried to start I heard a pop and a few fuses on different circuits were blown. Whilst the MEMS ECU has protection I have had it confirmed by a specialist that it is possible to kill the ECU by doing what I did but it's not very common.

    Do you think the sensor was your main issue? My MPI is exactly the same as yours in terms of not starting

    • @BlakesDen
      @BlakesDen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main issue was the ECU. I believe that when I tried to jump start the car there was a voltage surge which damaged the ECU. Apparently it is very rare for this to happen as the MEMS units are fairly robust. If you are having a similar issue then it would be useful to connect a Pscan unit or T300 diagnostics unit to see if you are getting any errors. As soon as I swapped my ECU and linked it to the immobiliser then it just fired up straight away.

    Hi. I bought the t300 machine after my old ECU was bad, I have purchased a 2nd hand ECU & was wondering what procedure would I need to reprogram the ECU with that machine please? Hope you can help! Thanks!!

    • @BlakesDen
      @BlakesDen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello
      Procedure for the T300 is as follows.
      1. Plug in using the mems/5as cable. The diagnostic port is under the dash left of the steering column.
      2. On the T300 get to the vehicle selection menu and select Rover.
      3. Select EMS.
      4. Select MEMS 2J.
      5. Turn ignition on.
      6. Go to special functions
      7. Select re-coding ECU.
      8. Press enter.
      And that's it, really simple but you do need the specific mems and 5as cable.
      Gareth

    See my 98' rebuilt MPi via my channel which is worth 7-10k & rising yearly. Only used in summer for shows and garaged all the rest of the year.👍
