No! HDMI link is amazing. We don't have live TV, we stream everything, so the PS5 will be on anyway. What's really nice with HDMI link is that I turn on the PS5, the tv comes on, my receiver turns on. Then when I'm done, I turn off the tv, and the PS5 goes to rest mode, the receiver shuts off. All thanks to HDMI link.

You shouldn’t have to “be careful” not to break your console. That’s on Sony. Use it as normal and if it bricks on you call in and get a replacement...
I 100% agree but im still going to be cautious with my ps5 because i have a suspicion that if you send your console in to get repaired right now its going to take forever untill you get it back the whole world has slowed to a crawl with the current events.
Every since the ps2 I've kept my consoles horizontal. Over time I realized Most of my friends who placed theirs in the vertical position had issues with the laser reading the disks. It's just a habit for me to this day to lay my system flat, in a well ventilated area ofcourse.
You are so right about putting in the disk the wrong way the first time. It seemed odd to turn it the other way until I thought about the PS5 being in the horizontal position.
Just got my ps5 today, 4 months of checking daily, staying up all night so many nights, twitter, 10 different web monitoring sites, any hidden features that no ones talking about, not so much the basic settings that everyone talks about like the button presses for home screen or in game menu, or controller or audio settings
Tip #5 I would actually recommend leaving it on it's side as heat rises and there is more ventilated slots on all sides except the bottom, letting more even spread of the heat coupled with the designed slopping of the case may actually be better for airflow. I would be interested in seeing it tested.
Bit late here but the air is discharged at the back of the console so it's best to ensure that the air has enough room be dispersed rather than recirculating back to the inlet at the top of the console. Orientation wouldn't matter so long as their is sufficient empty space around the console. Unfortunately i have mine. In a corner (for the time being) which i plan to change asap. But on the plus side. I don't think games are close to pushing the limits of ps5 so heat shouldn't be an issue as of yet 😁
If you are console player, this will probably be the first time owning a SSD. There are rule of thumb to keep it last longer. Never ever fill the storage space to 90%. You will wear out your SSD quicker this way. Keep free space as much room as possible. I follow 60/40. Some are fine with 70/30. Also, PS5 rest mode will leave fan running. I don't know why but PS4 does this as well. This means even the console is in sleep mode, it accumulates dust constantly. So like in video, choose the turn off option.
Does Sony still recommend NOT using a surge protector like ps4/xbox did? I know people do their own thing, but the old manuals use to specify to plug it into a wall outlet only.

The new iPhones have a usb c to lightning, I use it to charge my phone, if not I have steel series headset with a lossless 2.4Ghz usb c dongle I just plug in there too
Most of the bricking issues have been fixed. Just be carful putting it in rest mode and using an external hdd. Oh and black ops Cold War zombies still crashes every time I play that mode only. Congrats and enjoy.
I haven’t even heard rumors of an update yet. Which kinda weird. But Sony it probably really trying make a solid patch instead of tossing one out there and making things worse. So here’s hoping 🤞
thanks to techwiz0 my ps5 seems to bricked after an hour of play i was able to play an hour of austro until the controller randomly disconnected and refuse to sync back to the console it just flashed blue light when I pressed my ps5 hooking it via cable didn't help techwiz0 got it fixed .

@@Karma-hy6ki I am not trying to say if anyone should or should not use an external drive. Just that I have not had any issues with the Seagate 4t game drive for those that might decide they want to try one. I want to also add that when I went to format the external that I did it on my ps4.
Specifically regarding the rest mode, people were speculating it was because some apps/games were being left in standby (people didn't "close game" and put the PS5 in rest mode) which apparently caused errors in long term. Been using rest mode carefully to charge controllers or dl games and no problems so far on my side. Good tips otherwise. :)
as a note, the big fan does not vent to top... it takes air from the top, if you put your hand on top you can clearly feel it. it exhaust the hot air from the rear side..

Unsure if it's only me, but when you transfer your PS4 game play content ie AC Valhalla to PS5. And you download the FREE upgrade PS5. It's when you load PS5 version you start the game from New than continue where you play when on PS4. Only way I found is that you still play in PS4 format on the PS5. Same goes for immortals
Just lay it flat when your not using it. I have cats too, but mine are chill, I use a heating pad on their bean bag to distract them from wanting to chill on my ps4. Violence is never necessary.
Thanks to techwiz0 I have a problem with my PS5. the blue light keep on showing , but video signal absence and it can’t get safe mode also. I tried different HDMI and differen tv, techwiz0 got it working again
Use a portable hdd if you want. You'll save space on the extremely limited for your PS5 games. Just remember that whenever you want/need to unplug it. Select "safely remove external storage" option before shutting off the system. Same thing applies to the PS4.
Yeah you’re good. Just never unplug it while the ps5 is on. And if it’s not downloading anything it’s best to just shut it completely off. Then it’s safe to remove the external hdd. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@GameTrekkie yes that’s exactly what I do if I’m not downloading a game I turn my ps5 completely off and the external hard drive works fine for me the next day
hopefully by the next update. You can now just be very careful to shutdown the ps5 before pulling the external HDD and try not to use standby mode. If the system crashes while in standby. Its the same as pulling the HDD while the ps5 is running.
Watch out with cold war bro. I don't know if they addressed this but cold war is bricking consoles. As of right now cold war hasn't crashed on me for awhile but when it does stay away from it just in case my dude.

Hello would you shutdown a game that you've been playing and you're using the internal hard drive then you automatically go to the power settings I should down the PS5 you mentioned in the video using external hard drive do you have to do that for internal hard drives as well Do you have to disconnect the internal hard drive down shutdown the power for PS5
Just to be safe. Even if I’m not using an external drive. I always shut the ps5 down completely. And I usually just turn it on and leave it running through out the my day as I play for an hour, 30 minutes to two hours here and there.
none of the points relate to bricking. the green screen of death comes from corruption of SSD and bios from rest mode. there is no cure once it happens, ive sent mine for warranty claim.
I am using an external Samsung T7 SSD to play my PS4 games. Zero issues as I set the external Usb ports to cut power off when I shut down the system. Very bad idea to unplug Any drive when system is on. My SSD stays plugged in the PS5 and comes on/off when i power up. The issue comes from when you sleep and the External drive would stay on * not a good idea. Hence i DON'T put the PS5 in sleep mode, I simply shut down. My PS5 is also Horizontal in an open cabinet.

Yes. Especially if your using an external storage drive. When I put it in rest mode still. The next I boot it back up. It has to repair the external storage. Saying it was not power off ejected properly.

If you leave it in rest mode and it crashes or you loose power. Could harm or brick the system. So if you’re not down loading or updating anything it’s best to just shut it all the way off. To be on the safe side.

@Aiden Phoenix yes I think the default when just pressing the power button is rest mode. Hit the ps button on controller then go to power options and select full shut down.
Evening, I can't get my TV or projector to recognize my PS5. I switched out HDMI cables and nothing. I unplugged everything for 15 minutes and still nothing. I have also tried different TVs with the same result. Any suggestions?
BB is the best bet if u miss n get it n your cart, save it for later then next drop go to cart while everyone else is in the waiting que. not the only way of course but it has worked for me n several others in the discord channel. Gud luck fam
I’m new to PlayStation and really like my ps5 so far. Only issue I’ve had was that it froze on the Home Screen today and I reset it by holding down the power button and when it went on it gave me a safety warning. Can someone lmk what the correct and safe way to restart the console is if it freezes again?
I’ve been just tapping my ps5’s power button when it freezes on zombies Cold War. And it just restarts. Idk if this is the right or wrong way but it’s working sooo.
If you just quickly press the power button on the console instead of shutting down it goes into sleep mode. Start it up again and the problem should be fixed and since you put it in sleep mode instead of a hard shutdown you shouldn't recieve the warning for improperly powering down the system. Hope this helps.
The front USB-A port is for controllers and headsets and stuff. The USB C port on the front is a great place for an external SSD. Take advantage of that 10Gbps transfer rate and load all of your old games lightning fast without junking up internal storage. Apparently the two ports on the back are USB 3.1 as well.

@@SafetyFooT its not healthy to rip a e-hdd out of any device while its spinning.. Ps5 or not its bad practice. Obviously console peeps are just learning the caveats of these but its pretty well known in the desktop gamers world. SSD is another beast... People also arent realizing the difference... Or the difference in data rate speeds between the NVMe standard, and a Usb a/c cable... Dont go buy a NVMe SSD and an adapter to use it as an external drive it will be NO FASTER than a good name brand external "Hard" drive. It will be limited by the usb cable... Save yourself some money ;)

Works just fine, just dont buy the dirt cheap "wish" drives.. stick with a trustworthy WD or Seagate drive, ive not heard of it bricking a system until this video actually. I have both series x and ps5. So far, series x, has had no problems. The ps5 has had nothing but problems. Controllers randomly turning off, controller lag in games, and games mysteriously being corrupted. So far I am very disappointed.

I’ve never had a problem with Cold War I’ve only been had problems with miles morales once I completed the main story it started to freeze my whole console
Can't do vertical orientation on mine or it'd block the tv screen. I don't have xray vision so I wouldn't be able to see through the ps5 while playing, there isn't any space on the sides of the tv because the TV itself already extends past the edges of the table I have it sitting on (even though the stand feet are still on the table).

The intake is at the top. Where the fan is. I had it backwards. Then it pushes it out the back/bottom. There’s a video someone did. They test out the temperatures standing and on its side and it doesn’t make a difference.
Sorry I probably missed it and I’m just got mine and am very behind on all this but I have a disc version of a game. It has a lock on it what does that mean? And are all ps4 games playable with the ps5?
In I think account settings there a option to restore licenses and that should get rid of the lock. Or it’s a game that has a ps5 upgrade that you have to pay for. Like Cold War. You still play the PS4 version but you have to select it in games version.
Yes for both. But the issue still remains. And it comes down to the external ssd or hdd. If you lose power or unplug the drive improperly. You could the drive easily and worse yet the console. I have a video on using external storage. I’ll post the link.
It was crashing in rest mode. That can still happen but it not bricking it anymore. It you have external HDD connected and it crashes in rest mode that could brick the HDD. Now that’s not happening to everyone. Actually just a very small few compared to how many ps5’s are out now.

I've had one since release. I always do rest mode. I've had a external since day one also. It did mess up once. The external just "fixed" itself & I was good to go. That happened many times on ps4 so far never thought anything about it. It seems ok. I'm not sure why that type of the nh would happen anyway.

Mine bricked last week after only 10 mins of life. After crashing and restarting it would go straight into safe mode and you couldn't get out. Gutting, but it's been sent to Sony for repair.

So I stopped using external drive on my PS5 due to some crashes.. so far I haven’t gotten a crash since I unplugged it. Some people are saying that it stopped crashing since the last update so idk what to do, should I plug it back in or wait for another software update?

You can remove it while the PS5 is on. Just make sure you go to setting and select remove external storage safely. This is what I do and have had no problems.
something you can do is if you dont want to just mute the controller hold the mute button for like 5 seconds it mutes controller and tv also if you hold the ps button for 10 seconds it instantly turns off the controller so you dont have to turn it off like an xbox or ps4 controller
@@julianf147 For now, but with the sizes of these games and updates, the most recent Cod had a 200 gig update, the 2tb hdd would fill up within a short amount of time, so having a bigger hdd would be beneficial
What if u have an SSD drive as the external? I'm jus wondering if it's cause the old style drives r disk n don't move as fast that's why people r probably having issues. Can't use slow shit with a fast system. This is in theory so I honestly haven't a clue
No the real issue is the ps5 isn’t hot swappable. Meaning if you pull the external hdd or ssd while the ps5 is on or in stand by mode. It will brick the drive and possibly the console. And that’s why I suggested not put the ps5 in stand by mode or rest mode. If it crashes or if you loose internet connection while it in rest could potentially brick everything.

The position of your console may not effect performance but i do suggest laying it on its side if you have animals or children.

I always turn off my ps5 and never on rest mode .I did had disc read error and it is the disc .always do the updates.
The new iPhones have a usb c to lightning, I use it to charge my phone, if not I have steel series headset with a lossless 2.4Ghz usb c dongle I just plug in there too

thanks to techwiz0 my ps5 seems to bricked after an hour of play i was able to play an hour of austro until the controller randomly disconnected and refuse to sync back to the console it just flashed blue light when I pressed my ps5 hooking it via cable didn't help techwiz0 got it fixed .

Connect your optical cable to your tv or monitor. Just make sure your usb is connected to you ps5
Specifically regarding the rest mode, people were speculating it was because some apps/games were being left in standby (people didn't "close game" and put the PS5 in rest mode) which apparently caused errors in long term. Been using rest mode carefully to charge controllers or dl games and no problems so far on my side. Good tips otherwise. :)
Get a charge station so you can switch controllers easy
as a note, the big fan does not vent to top... it takes air from the top, if you put your hand on top you can clearly feel it. it exhaust the hot air from the rear side..
I prefer to use one of the rear USB ports for my external ssd. I'm fearful I will accidentally unplug it while it's running using the front USB-C.

Unsure if it's only me, but when you transfer your PS4 game play content ie AC Valhalla to PS5. And you download the FREE upgrade PS5. It's when you load PS5 version you start the game from New than continue where you play when on PS4. Only way I found is that you still play in PS4 format on the PS5. Same goes for immortals

Use a portable hdd if you want. You'll save space on the extremely limited for your PS5 games. Just remember that whenever you want/need to unplug it. Select "safely remove external storage" option before shutting off the system. Same thing applies to the PS4.

hopefully by the next update. You can now just be very careful to shutdown the ps5 before pulling the external HDD and try not to use standby mode. If the system crashes while in standby. Its the same as pulling the HDD while the ps5 is running.

Set it to DL updates etc only and NOT install in rest mode. Ive zero issues since I changed that 1 setting

Just to be safe. Even if I’m not using an external drive. I always shut the ps5 down completely. And I usually just turn it on and leave it running through out the my day as I play for an hour, 30 minutes to two hours here and there.

I am using an external Samsung T7 SSD to play my PS4 games. Zero issues as I set the external Usb ports to cut power off when I shut down the system. Very bad idea to unplug Any drive when system is on. My SSD stays plugged in the PS5 and comes on/off when i power up. The issue comes from when you sleep and the External drive would stay on * not a good idea. Hence i DON'T put the PS5 in sleep mode, I simply shut down. My PS5 is also Horizontal in an open cabinet.

If you leave it in rest mode and it crashes or you loose power. Could harm or brick the system. So if you’re not down loading or updating anything it’s best to just shut it all the way off. To be on the safe side.

Evening, I can't get my TV or projector to recognize my PS5. I switched out HDMI cables and nothing. I unplugged everything for 15 minutes and still nothing. I have also tried different TVs with the same result. Any suggestions?

If you just quickly press the power button on the console instead of shutting down it goes into sleep mode. Start it up again and the problem should be fixed and since you put it in sleep mode instead of a hard shutdown you shouldn't recieve the warning for improperly powering down the system. Hope this helps.
The front USB-A port is for controllers and headsets and stuff. The USB C port on the front is a great place for an external SSD. Take advantage of that 10Gbps transfer rate and load all of your old games lightning fast without junking up internal storage. Apparently the two ports on the back are USB 3.1 as well.
Also. I think an external hard drive will only brick your system if you pull it out while the systems on. LOL maybe just don't do that?

Obviously console peeps are just learning the caveats of these but its pretty well known in the desktop gamers world. SSD is another beast... People also arent realizing the difference... Or the difference in data rate speeds between the NVMe standard, and a Usb a/c cable... Dont go buy a NVMe SSD and an adapter to use it as an external drive it will be NO FASTER than a good name brand external "Hard" drive. It will be limited by the usb cable... Save yourself some money ;)

I have both series x and ps5. So far, series x, has had no problems. The ps5 has had nothing but problems. Controllers randomly turning off, controller lag in games, and games mysteriously being corrupted. So far I am very disappointed.

Can't do vertical orientation on mine or it'd block the tv screen. I don't have xray vision so I wouldn't be able to see through the ps5 while playing, there isn't any space on the sides of the tv because the TV itself already extends past the edges of the table I have it sitting on (even though the stand feet are still on the table).

I find the ps5 is best on its side that way the intake vents on the bottom are not covered by the stand.
The intake is at the top. Where the fan is. I had it backwards. Then it pushes it out the back/bottom. There’s a video someone did. They test out the temperatures standing and on its side and it doesn’t make a difference.

In I think account settings there a option to restore licenses and that should get rid of the lock. Or it’s a game that has a ps5 upgrade that you have to pay for. Like Cold War. You still play the PS4 version but you have to select it in games version.

Yes for both. But the issue still remains. And it comes down to the external ssd or hdd. If you lose power or unplug the drive improperly. You could the drive easily and worse yet the console. I have a video on using external storage. I’ll post the link.

It was crashing in rest mode. That can still happen but it not bricking it anymore. It you have external HDD connected and it crashes in rest mode that could brick the HDD. Now that’s not happening to everyone. Actually just a very small few compared to how many ps5’s are out now.

I've had one since release. I always do rest mode. I've had a external since day one also. It did mess up once. The external just "fixed" itself & I was good to go. That happened many times on ps4 so far never thought anything about it. It seems ok. I'm not sure why that type of the nh would happen anyway.

As safety precautions just shut the system all the way down instead of rest mode. And you’ll be fine with the external HDD.

You can remove it while the PS5 is on. Just make sure you go to setting and select remove external storage safely. This is what I do and have had no problems.

something you can do is if you dont want to just mute the controller hold the mute button for like 5 seconds it mutes controller and tv also if you hold the ps button for 10 seconds it instantly turns off the controller so you dont have to turn it off like an xbox or ps4 controller

@@julianf147 For now, but with the sizes of these games and updates, the most recent Cod had a 200 gig update, the 2tb hdd would fill up within a short amount of time, so having a bigger hdd would be beneficial

What if u have an SSD drive as the external? I'm jus wondering if it's cause the old style drives r disk n don't move as fast that's why people r probably having issues. Can't use slow shit with a fast system. This is in theory so I honestly haven't a clue
No the real issue is the ps5 isn’t hot swappable. Meaning if you pull the external hdd or ssd while the ps5 is on or in stand by mode. It will brick the drive and possibly the console. And that’s why I suggested not put the ps5 in stand by mode or rest mode. If it crashes or if you loose internet connection while it in rest could potentially brick everything.
if your ps4 has a corrupted hdd do you still transfer games with a lan cable or no?
