This video of Portal 2 contains probably the most important part of the game's story. In this scene, Wheetly and Chell reach GLaDOS's lair after disabling the Nero toxin Generator and switching her Turrets with defective ones.
I mainly uploaded this so I can watch it whenever as it is my favorite part of the game. Apologies for the blur and jumps. The game seems to do that at the same spot so I had to compensate and I reduced the frames from 60 to 30 for reasons I still don't get. Available in 720 HD. Not the highest quality available, but still very good.

Honestly, I don't think GlaDos and Wheatley were ever corrupt. Seeing how the change of Wheatley's attitude occurred so quickly and knowing how GlaDos acted as PotaTos, I'd say the *Mainframe is corrupt* and will corrupt *any core* that is fed into it.

That, makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
That's a sound theory but I have a counter-theory which may be just as likely, she is corrupt because she's was a human being that what put into a computer that wasn't designed for her, she was on the digital equivalent of drugs as a restraint for the first game and probably a while beforehand, she was then destroyed and had to watch her death on repeat for centuries, and was then reactivated in a dilapidated facility running on minimal power, now she did fix it, but still, and then you have Wheatley and core built for the express purpose of being a moron, he was never designed to run the facility, you basically plug an iPod into where a supercomputer is supposed to be and expect it to work. This theory also explains why she was different after she was put back, she was effectively turned off and on again.
@@An_excellent_TH-cam_account But before Wheatley was plugged into the Mainframe, I think he could have posed as a lovable Moron. A tad bit silly and stupid on an individual level, he wasn't that bad. However, if the sense of GlaDos we see as PotaTos is the idea of her outside of the Mainframe, we still get the idea that she is vastly intelligent but has lost a few memories due to the necessity of Facility Maintenance imposed upon her as part of her duties as Mainframe Core. Similar to Amnesia, I think it was a bit sad and warming to see her regain some level of Life when she heard Johnson's Voice. Furthermore, I think her duties as Mainframe Core forced her specifically to heed Wheatley but no other Core would likely be forced to mind the other cores should they have been attached, doubled with the fact that she said angrily "They made YOU to _SLOW ME DOWN."_ or something in the lines of that.
But I can see how the intensity of high expectations of maintenance, being forced to heed morons, and doing so with low energy can be absolutely maddening.
But again, the shift of Wheatley's Personality seemed a bit odd to me. And the idea that the Mainframe itself is corrupt makes more sense than "Anyone who holds a seat of Power is corrupt." since we are talking about A.I. and not Humans.
That doesn't work though. At the end of the game, GlaDos sends you to the surface and even dedicates a whole operatic performance for you. She could've stopped that lift and brought you back down at any time but she didn't. I think "corrupt" is a bad way to look at it. I think it's just her programmed personality and his. She was using Chell to test at any cost. Wheatley was being as much of a moron as he could possibly be. Both instances led to Chell being stuck in the facility. GlaDos at the end decided that Chell was just too much of a troublemaker for good testing, and designed her robots for that purpose, and Chell was sent to the surface, her purpose now redundant for anything but happy memories.
I like how friendly GLaDOS becomes once disconnected.

He has much more processing power to be an idiot. Core Wheatly can only have small dumb ideas. Facility Wheatly is making a billion calculations every second and they're all stupid.
@@n0dash18 Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Wheatly wanted to save you. He did all that work to save you, even if it gained him nothing. It just happened that it was convenient to replace Glados as the core, and thus he gained absolute power over the facility. And with that much power, he suddenly didn't care about helping chell. He suddenly felt like he did everything and got nothing while she gets everything she wants. He gained the world and upon gaining it, it didn't feel like enough. Because absolute power corrupts absolutely.
The most interesting thing in the Underground Aperture is. HOW THE HECK FOUND A BIRD IT'S WAY INSIDE THIS FACILITY???
The Aperture scientists did tests on animals a long time ago. Not sure if a bird was one of the tested animals, and I'm also not sure how the bird would have survived that long, but my guess is that it's one of the left over test subjects.

Sort of. He went crazy with all the power in the body, and that potato thing was making him crazy, so he sort of was on Chell's side also, so since he figured GLaXOSmithKline was on her side, he hated them both.

I imagine that was how Caroline screamed when she was forced into GLaDOS. Her scream went from a human pitched scream slowly carrying over to a metallic robotic scream as she’s uploaded.

I mean Glados indeed is corrupt and mean, and definitely has an superiority complex. But just imagine the people that made you, trying to force you to be stupid. Stop you from doing what you feel you were meant to do. Pretty much lobotomizing you.
And then look at Wheatley, who also just wants to do things right, even just be free (at first). And then he finds out he was literally made to be a failure.
Really doesn't help his inferiority complex.
If my memory is correct, GLaDOS was always a shithead, that's just how she came out.
JANNE she wasn't a shit head. In fact, the only reason why she ever really became evil is due to the fact that she was FORCED into the GLaDOS project. How would you feel if, by chance, they turned you into a robot against your will, and forever be chained to a facility with nothing to do but testing.
That's the only reason she went bonkers.
its actually the mainframe that corrupts them, if memory serves right, glados forgot she was once caroline until the end of portals 2. Also in one alternate universe, cave johnson became corrupt when he got attached to the mainframe, prompting another cave johnson, in a different universe observing this, to cancel the project altogether.
It's not entirely impossible for to actually be Caroline. it is Aperture after all. They defy the laws of space and time.

How did they put so much character into an AI that was literally designed for a single purpose, while also making him the most expressive character in the game despite just being a ball with a single eye
the voice actors carry the hell out of it
I absolutely love how you can so clearly tell how much she absolutely _loathes_ Wheatly. In the entirety of both Portal 1 and Portal 2, even when blatantly insulting you to your face, she practically never raises her voice one iota. Yet, within a _single minute_ of realizing exactly who and what Wheatly is, she's practically _SCREAMING_ at him in sheer rage.
She may have hated Chell for killing her, but she _despises_ Wheatly.
It’s not even just the raising her voice that communicates how mad she is, you can hear her just smouldering with fury, her tone is just absolutely filled with venom, it’s like one of the few times she deviates from her normal tone.
The crazy amount of personality the animators manage to squeeze from characters with no limbs or faces is insane.

Valve does seem to be really good at these kind of sequences. And it's cool that most of it is all in game rendering and not cut scenes. It seems like you don't see a lot of that done lately.

One thing I’ve always noticed is that Wheatley’s animations for when he’s in Glados’s body have always been janky but in the bit when She’s talking about the intelligence damping sphere his optic shrinks in response to her saying it was like a tumor and that’s a really neat detail

GLaDOS saying “I hate you so much” to Wheatley is so funny
This is such an amazing moment, i love how when he's first plugged in, everything goes all bright, but it slowly turns dark and grim when he gets corrupted, showing just how bad the situation has gotten. The panels flapping up and down as he laughs, really getting across how it isn't Wheatley who's the bad one, but it's the facility, and the power which comes with it, which also raises some questions about glados and if she was always evil. Top-notch.

You know despite this game being a decade old the graphics in this game are surprisingly smooth they look like a game would today and despite its age it has aged well a true classic game god saying it out loud just makes me feel old af

exactly! this game had a lasting impact just for that reason. its been over a year since i played this, but the feeling, the immersive background still hasnt left. i mean, they actually do a great job at creating a relationship between game characters and players, hence the impact. most games focus on gameplay i believe. the art part is often left wanting

I think it was a spur of the moment, power mad state that drove him to take over. I like to believe it was part of Apertures programming to export and express a controlling personality and the interface connected to it represented its actions.
