Thank you for your reaction @555vibes. I was the executive producer for this show and also arranged the music that you have just listened to. I can confirm that the vocalist is indeed a Royal Marine like everyone else has commented. She is also a very talented percussionist.
That arrangement is better than the original in my opinion and so suited to a military band. It was complex, intricate and told the story with high drama. I’ve watched it several times now - the skills, discipline, precision and talent shown is outstanding. Over 200 musicians marching and playing on the dot. Amazing. They can do this all day long for me.
This ceremony is called 'Beating Retreat and Sunset' which takes place every 2 yrs at Horseguards Parade with the Royal Marines. You can watch the whole event on TH-cam - it is incredible! Best military band in the world!
@@mairiconnell6282 Only the RM Commandos wear that. None of the bands members do that training although their basic training does have some elements of the commando elements in it
To wear that uniform and be in the Royal Marines Band she A/ has to pass Marine Basic training and the she has to be able to play 3 instruments to a concert standard, ( or 2 and sing ) again to an appropriate standard. Otherwise she would never, ever be allowed to wear that uniform. In times of combat they all become medics, stretcher bearers, first aiders, ward orderlies. And take a look on her chest, they don’t get medals for turning up for work each day.
If what you say is true then it has changed since I served. RM Musicians did a short version of RM recruit training plus advanced combat first aid, a total of 8 weeks before joining the RMSM at RM Depot Deal. This was back in the 70s when I was actually stationed at RM Depot, Deal.
davehadley3567: For Information: The medal she is wearing is one in a series of Jubilee Medals. In this case the Queens Platinum Jubilee Medal 2022. It is one of numerous commemorative medals, ie none combative decorations. It was issued to some members of the uniformed services, armed or otherwise. I don’t know if any other none uniformed people received commemorative decorations. (I think the information I’ve given is correct🤔).

Every summer there are live concerts, this one I think was 'Beating The Retreat' which is usually held in June. The 'ferris wheel' in the background is the London Eye. The vocalist most certainly is a marine. If a civilian, she would *not* be wearing the uniform.😁
His Majesty's Royal Marines are not only professional soldiers, they have to serve up to three years in the RM School of music, play at least two instruments at the highest standards, and be able to write/compose a n orchestral piece of music. They are widely acknowledged as the best military band in the world - and who would dare argue? The late Queen always has an RM Band with her on her world travels on the Royal Yacht Britannia. You should look for items like the Mountbatten Festival, Remembrance Day performances. Royal Tournaments, Edingurgh and other Tattoos, Royal Galas, Beating the Retreat etc etc. They play every kind of music from film scores, pop. clasical and opera. They regularly tour the US giving fine musical and marching displays. Watch them and one of their female corporals performing "I vow to thee my country" as an example. All of these are available on TH-cam. One of the best is their part in the Uknown Warrior Story.

While I was Army and those lads and lassies are Royal Navy, they are on the same team ie British Forces. Makes me very proud to be British.
The Royal Marines have played in almost every country...wherever the Queen visited on the Royal Yacht over all those years the Band travelled with her and played at sundown.....world famous. And very good marine soldiers too of course!

The singer is a member of the Royal Marines Band Service. (The band are a separate arm of the Royal Marines). And yes, they do what they do in the clip. The fighting, however, is done by the Royal Marines Commandos. (The Green Berets)

Some of the military march movements of the HM Royal Marine Band are known as "Counter March" - it's an incredible tradition and tragically not performed frequently today. Texas A&M Marching Band does an amazing Counter March. It's difficult and incredibly beautiful to experience. This has to be one of the best performances in recorded history with a Counter March.

Where the RM's are playing is the parade ground behind Horse guards (an MoD site guarded by the mounted division of the Household Cavalry . who are ALL Trained soldiers This is where Trooping the Colour takes place every year. The building is Horseguards, (with the London Eye behind it). Built as the Army Headquarters by King Charles II in 1600's! Now the Headquarters of the Lifeguards and the Blues and Royals and much of the Army. It is the 'front gate' of Buckingham Palace. You may have seen the huge processions going through the arch and across the Parade Ground to march down The Mall to the Palace, like the Queen's funeral procession and then the Coronation procession.
Every year the Royal Marines march from Barracks through parts of London to Horse Guards Parade Ground to perform 'Beating Retreat' a military tradition. 'Gladiator' was at the end of the Ceremony just before they marched back through the streets to their Barracks - looking as impeccable as they did marching to it! In June, for the King's official birthday, the Guards will be at this same Parade Ground taking part in their traditional Ceremony 'Trooping the Colour'.

They don’t just put anyone in a Royal Marine’s uniform. All the musicians in the marines do the same basic training as all the other marines. The drummers do two years additional training in drum and bugle, everyone else does three years, either in a specialist instrument - voice in her case - or a stringed and a wind instrument. They all do a huge range of styles because they perform in all kinds of different events. On top of that, they’re serving marines. Not in combat roles, but they train as medics, ambulance drivers, radio operators, lorry drivers, logistics specialists and all those roles to support the commandos.
This is not the Palace but Horse Guards Parade, a military HQ in Whitehall, London , near Downing Street. It is the Parade Ground where military ceremonies take place, including the annual Trooping of the Colour, where a Regiment of the Guards Display their Standard in front of the Monarch on the Kings official birthday. During the summer several military musical performances also take place, of which this video is a small part. The building behind the band, which is about 300 years old, forms the official entrance to the Royal estate of which Buckingham Palace forms a part, it's about half a mile behind the camera across parkland.

It's difficult to respond to great music as a non-musician: we just don't have the language and understanding of what's happening to make sense of why we like or dislike it - so we often displace that onto a good singer for example. I'm not a musician but I've learned a few things over the years and one thing that jumps out from the Royal Marines Band performance here is *harmony*. They keep on hitting interesting harmonies. But you can only do that if you are a tight unit. I'm thinking the rigorous military training helps with this - the Royal Marines are probably the best in Britain for that. There is a video somewhere on TH-cam about their training.
The Royal Marines DO NOT take part in the Trooping of the Colour ceremony. That exclusively features the household troops - all the regiments of Footguards, the mounted cavalry Blues & Royals and Lifeguards and the King's Troop Artillery.
Nah. That's not the palace, it's just Horse Guards Parade. The pacaceS are much bigger :-) I believe the band members are mostly not RM commandos, but they are medics and the like. These people would have got their medals in Afghanistan and Iraq etc.
She is a Royal Marines Musician not simply a Royal Marine. "The Royal Marines" is a Corps title and catch all for Royal Marines Commandos, Royal Marines SBS, Royal Marines Corps of Drums and Royal Marines Musicians. In other words "Royal Marine" always has to be followed by a qualifier which specifies an individual role, otherwise it is meaningless.

One thing often overlooked, is a large group of people, with a unity of purpose. It adds emotions.

Bandsman or Bandswoman are informal terms, i.e. unofficial terms. The official term is Royal Marine Musician.

"The Royal Marines" is a Corps title and catch all for Royal Marines Commandos, Royal Marines SBS, Royal Marines Corps of Drums and Royal Marines Musicians. In other words "Royal Marine" always has to be followed by a qualifier which specifies an individual role, otherwise it is meaningless.
