Max Payne (1) is *still* to this day one of the best action shooters of all time. It’s story, atmosphere, dialogue, characters, pacing & setting is better than most games that come out today, damn-near 20 years later!!!! And Remedy Entertainment is STILL making boss moves w/it’s newest IP “Control” which is, to me, the best Remedy game to ever come out, & completes their Holy-Trinity of IP: Max Payne (OG), Alan Wake, & Control... if you’re a Max Payne fan & you haven’t played Conteol... you must “Remedy” that ASAP!!!
the only reason why max payne 3 is the least best game of the series is because rockstar games bought max payne and remedy left them to do what the hell they want, remedy was best team for max payne series! remedy and rockstar games did max payne 1 and 2 , they will NEVER do a good game as the first 2... very sad because these two games were a big part of my life as a kid
Rekt Tom From somebody who's played both games long before 3, I can safely say that I really enjoyed it and thought it was a good ending for the series.
Gamespot, Jane Douglas there, talking about Max Payne... Then watching Remedy keep putting out such good games like Alan Wake, Quantum Break, then Control... Remedy (and perhaps Sam Lake in particular) have such a special "magic" to give... I can't wait for the next Remedy game and I suspect every Remedy game will be very memorable, no matter how long I live (born in 1984, hoping to live until at least 2084 and playing the most recent game Sam Lake and Remedy worked on!)
I still haven't played Max Payne 3 because I'm so scared of being utterly disappointed. It's downloaded and installed in my Steam library, but man I don't want them to ruin Max Payne like with that fucking movie.
+chownful Good decision. I couldn't play it after the third level or something. It is as close to Max Payne as that stupid movie. I'll see if there is a Max Payne 4 written by Sam Lake. If not, no need to ruin the memory of a wonderful game.
+chownful I have to say I completely disagree. I am a die-hard fan of the first two games, no question about it. This does not change the fact that Max Payne 3 was simply awesome. In my opinion it doesn't have the 'tone' of the first two games at all, as everything feels different, but Max is still there though, so I'd call it 'half of a Max Payne' but still excellent. And to be honest, I actually enjoyed it more than the first two games, even though it's not consistent to the first two in style, Max Payne 3 is quite simply a masterpiece.
+efirehawk Interesting, I may have to at least give it a try then. Although I must admit, the dark, gritty urban landscape with the film noir style was really what made Max Payne a true classic instead of just a third person shooter with bullet time, IMO.
Max Payne is the best game of all time. we need Max Payne 4. if the latter, give a happy ending (I forgot the own Max said that there are no happy endings :( ) to Max, or his death, he deserves to rest in peace. or Bring back Mona, in the first game she survived a gunshot to the head in the second she could have survived another shot. I believe so, in Max Payne 3 has an advertisement that goes on TV, on the hotel's mona, and the woman's voice speaking is the voice of mona. Max and mona could marry and live happily ever :) please. Max Payne 4.
It would be awesome if remedy took it back and reboot the series, but maybe with a better 'n bitter story. haha. If anything, rockstar spoiled the whole game in the third part.
Deonte Miller Yeah, I did play it (completed 1 & 2, by he way you guessed it right, I didn't totally complete it though). And I loved everything about 1 & 2, the depth of noir story, the characters, the gameplay was smooth, there was even a bit comedy in 2nd part with vinnie, story driven and most of all, THE AWESOME BULLET TIME. #rockstargames took this game and completely changed the whole settings, from FPS to third person [I mean, come on] & the story. The story in third part falls flat on it's face, at least for me. Is #MaxPayne such a dumbass that he believes whatever anybody says to him and he believes him right away and a silly bar fight turns this sour that he has to kill an idiot who shows cocky attitude. #crap is what i say the story.....haha
I can't agree more on this matter. One thing you forgot to mention about MP 3 is that it lacks comic which is very important instead they have given us a bunch of shitty blurry cinematics. I was eager to see what MP 3 had to offer us but it saddend me that i found a totaly different game. I wish Max Payne 3 never happend.
Max Payne 3 lacked style - I liked realism of it, when max held the assault rifle in one hand and gun in the other (rather than carrying the whole gunshop in nonexistent space). Story and script were way off the rails. It had nothing to do with Max Payne style. Because writer was changed. The new writer was trying really hard to say something meaningful and couldn't come up with shit. While Max Payne 2 is full of quotes. The whole damn game is like a noir bible! Sam Lake is frkng genius.
I think Sam not playing as Max Payne in the 2nd part played a big role in it not being as successful as the first one cuz people who got attached with the main character felt a disconnect in the 2nd game when they saw a different Max, it was a big mistake by Remedy in my view.
Max payne 1 is a cult classic. Even though its story is better, Max payne 2 is better in style. Max payne 3 sucks. It has nothing to do with the noir style (that is what makes the first 2 games awesome) and the story is horrible.
bananaempijama I kind of think that Max Payne 3 is good, i had a bad feeling before playing it, but it turned out to be very well done, though - it did not continue the old style that much, i think it was good mostly as a separate game, not as a Max Payne continuation...
I did not really played Max Payne 2 but I really, really loved Max Payne 1 until now. I still have it running in my Windows 7. The story, gameplay, story presentation (and other stuff) is just superb (that's why gameplay + storyline > graphics in most cases). Not to mention the iconic theme music too.
Well,MP 1 was by far the best of them. But you got to admit, the chapters in New Jersey (The third game) had an old school Max Payne feel. I know what you talking about, but I can't agree on all things. Story was decent, the drama is still there, and Max's suffering from first two games really takes the cake. They made him a drunk, and complete lowlife, that nobody care for. I love the scene when he play the tune on piano. The song get better, when Max gets his shit together. I just love it.
Sam Lake never ages. He just changes his hair style.
This was his leon s Kennedy time

Max Payne 1 was much ahead of its time when it came out in 2001
Max Payne 3 on PC also was way ahead of its time . The game still has better combat and gunplay than any 3rd person shooter ever made.
Ha! Look at how cute Sam like was 12 years ago :D
the only reason why max payne 3 is the least best game of the series is because rockstar games bought max payne and remedy left them to do what the hell they want, remedy was best team for max payne series! remedy and rockstar games did max payne 1 and 2 , they will NEVER do a good game as the first 2... very sad because these two games were a big part of my life as a kid
Yes... Yes..
No other game left an impact on me like Max Payne did..
Rekt Tom From somebody who's played both games long before 3, I can safely say that I really enjoyed it and thought it was a good ending for the series.
Name Holder M8, you just suck at the game.
Name Holder M8, you just suck at the game.
Swugward LMAO all of them are good
Sam Lake so young here, he's just a pond
Gamespot, Jane Douglas there, talking about Max Payne... Then watching Remedy keep putting out such good games like Alan Wake, Quantum Break, then Control... Remedy (and perhaps Sam Lake in particular) have such a special "magic" to give... I can't wait for the next Remedy game and I suspect every Remedy game will be very memorable, no matter how long I live (born in 1984, hoping to live until at least 2084 and playing the most recent game Sam Lake and Remedy worked on!)
Excuse me, do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior, the Pink Flamingo?
"Wack da sucker!"
"Payne? Pain in the butt. Pain to the MAX!"
+chownful yeah I feel ya, btw same with GTA5 for me even though I probabaly draw a lot of hate on me for that one.
Anders W. I haven't bought or played much GTA5 either. Still waiting for it to go on sale in Steam :(
Max Payne is the best game of all time. we need Max Payne 4. if the latter, give a happy ending (I forgot the own Max said that there are no happy endings :( ) to Max, or his death, he deserves to rest in peace. or Bring back Mona, in the first game she survived a gunshot to the head in the second she could have survived another shot. I believe so, in Max Payne 3 has an advertisement that goes on TV, on the hotel's mona, and the woman's voice speaking is the voice of mona. Max and mona could marry and live happily ever :) please. Max Payne 4.
+Deathstroke fuck yoy
+Max Payne It seems with every passing title, the game gets shorter and shorter
Max Payne Nah. Max Payne 3 really set a good ending for the game series. I don't think there need to be anymore.
Didn't know Sam Lake had a Justin Beiber phase.
It would be awesome if remedy took it back and reboot the series, but maybe with a better 'n bitter story. haha. If anything, rockstar spoiled the whole game in the third part.
Have you even played Max Payne 3? fully? Because I thought Rockstar did a great job on this story and game. Both discs...
Deonte Miller 3 is definitely good but I didn't like the tropical theme for such a dark game like MP
It's a Man on Fire noir style. Please take off the damn nostalgia goggles.
Jane from OutsideXbox?
+Daniel Crowley Yes haha!
Yeah i noticed that to :D
lol yes hahaha
Max Payne was the game that changed the shooter series to a whole new level.
No matter how they change the look of Max or a new story to be told, Sam Lake will always be the face of Max Payne :)
Dayumn this has got to be another universe sam lake cuz aint no way he would let go of that slick black air plastered in the place backwards
here after remake announcement, Sam is at the same level of Kojima as a true visionary in this industry.
Max Payne 1 is the best

2021 the 20th anniversary of Max Payne.
My psychiatrist - Bieber Sam Lake isnt real, he cant hurt you.
Bieber Sam Lake -
Wow even sam lake couldnt reisist rocking the psuedo "scene" look in 2011.
My uncle Vinny Gognitti was in this game.
It's more than just rescuing kidnapped girls. It was more about Max's redemption for everything.
“2011 Justin Bieber haircut Sam Lake isn’t real, he can’t hurt you.”
2011 Justin Bieber haircut Sam Lake:
Awesome work guys, one of the best games I've ever played and I will remember it forever
*gunshop* XD lol
For those who dont know. Sam lake is from Finland. What a masterpiece guy
thats so weird i thought he was american and then he starts doing finland voice
@@TheFormHater hes some multi talent guy

Look at freaking Sam Lake!! 😂. I love the hair
I love this game. I Pulled it out of my gameroom and play it now as we speak. So much nostalgia
That hair is simply magnificent
I did not really played Max Payne 2 but I really, really loved Max Payne 1 until now. I still have it running in my Windows 7. The story, gameplay, story presentation (and other stuff) is just superb (that's why gameplay + storyline > graphics in most cases). Not to mention the iconic theme music too.
Try it, it's really good unlike the third
@Stef3m Whoa that comment was 12 years ago! I've already played the 2nd and 3rd game and I really liked both of them.
All Max Payne for me was great and was all different! :D
