Crockpot meals. That way you can prep and get it going in the morning while it is cooler and before doing other things. And it is so nice to come in to the good smells and just serve and eat.
Also a lite, less intensive soup and sandwiches (like grilled cheese or ham and cheese). Good quick yet nutritious soups: Creamy Zucchini, or other Squash (blended). Or a make it yourself Sandwich bar: more than one choice of cheese and cold cuts; with a large salad.
Even a baked Potato Bar with different topping choices: broccoli, cheeses, salsa. sour cream, etc.
If you bake the potatoes in the microwave it heats up the kitchen less.

In the summer we like to eat cold pasta salads. Penne with veggies pepperoni and Italian dressing. Pasta shells with tuna, celery onion and Mayo.

I cook a lot on my grill outside and my airfryer. The airfryer is great because it has different functions on it. We just recently got over a heat wave as well.

I do have an air fryer. I use it quite a bit, but I haven’t quite gotten the knack of cooking entire meals in it yet. I need more practice!

I hear it is much more humid in Quebec (from my husband’s friend who was visiting). Our weather is hot and dry. I much prefer spring and fall! Thank you!!! ❤️

I too had a family of 7 around the table. Watching your video made think of those summer days before air conditioning and how I feed my family. I do remember taco salad was always a hit and many times I would get the grill going and put potatoes, onions and veggies in foil and cook on the grill then make some burgers. They loved cold pasta salad sometimes with tuna or some leftover ham.even though it was hot they were hungry. Thank you again for sharing and sending me down memory lane.

Tacos are definitely our go to when it’s too hot to cook or we need an easy meal. We had two types of tacos this week. Fish tacos with spinach and pineapple and salsa earlier this week then tonight we had ground chicken tacos with all the toppings.

Yes, we in Northern California have also been in a heat wave, mostly over 100 degrees F
We’re doing the same thing a lot of fruit & heftier salads.

Pasta salad is a good hot weather dinner. Also tuna salad in a tomato. You use big tomatoes, cut in half each way but not to the bottom. Fill it with the tuna salad. It’s delicious. I have a zucchini skillet recipe that my family loves. It’s supposed to be a side dish but we have it as our main meal. If you’re interested I can send the recipe to you.

Hi Suzanne! Your taco bar meal is a great idea for hot weather meals. I love to have salads as sides or as a main meal with added meats , hard-boil eggs, cheese. I also love tuna or chicken salad, and on hot days will have sandwiches of them for dinner. Corn on the cob is a quick fix if you grow it or have access to locally grown..we love it along side sliced tomatoes or just about any main dish. I'm looking forward to seeing your pick of go to meals, I love new ideas. Thanks for the great video!

    Suzanne,
I'm guessing that you do not have air-conditioning. The temperature 39C is 102F. We have just gone through a month of hot weather which is not unusual for Nebraska. Most houses in my city have central air conditioning. Even though I have central air, I don't keep the temperature in the house all that cool. I try to keep it about 80F (26.6C). Most of my friends keep their houses around 72F (22.2C). I don't like those high electric bills.
I'm mostly a crockpot kind of guy. It doesn't heat up the kitchen and there are hundreds of meals for just about anything imaginable. Hot dogs and tacos are always a good go to for fast and easy meals. In my grandmother's day, each day of the week the meal was the same. Maybe Monday might be pasta day, Tuesday might be chicken, Wednesday could be beef, and so on. It was so routine that one could tell what day of the week it was by the evening meal. Sunday was always pot roast day that cooked while at church. On Sunday after church, the family would gather at grandma's house for family dinner. It was a family tradition passed down to my mom and then to me. However, I lived far away in a land called St. Louis about a 7-hour drive by Interstate so I seldom ate with my family other than on special occasions. Even to this day my immediate family that live near me have Family Sunday dinner together. Sometimes it's at my house and sometimes it's at a restaurant. There's just something about a meal with the family around the table. Adult lives are so filled with active schedules that there are times I don't have a lot of contact with them during the week, so family dinner is a wonderful way to catch up on what is going on in their lives.
Have a great day and hopefully the hot days will be over soon. Ours will continue on until the end of August.

      Hi Dave,
I absolutely love all your stories about growing up….the old ways! I really like that idea of having a certain thing on a certain night of the week. I might have to give that a try!
I just picked up an old crock pot and I can’t wait to use it. I’ve had several in the past but haven’t had one in a few years now. That is what is missing in my life! Thanks for all the tips. ❤️
      Have a wonderful day,
      Suzanne

Hi Barbara! 😀 I have had a few suggestions so far on using g a slow cooker. I’ve had several over the years, but haven’t had one since moving into the farmhouse. I just went out and found an older unit at a thrift store. I can’t wait to start using it! Thanks so much for the suggestion ❤️

I hate cooking in the Summer - so I actually Cook everything in the Crockpot {slow cooker}. I prep it all inside and then my husband takes it *OUTSIDE* on puts it on the *Porch*. I also HATE the Heat & it also drains me too ! : ( Trust me when I say I think I've cooked ''everything'' you can think of in the CPot over the past 3 summers ! : ) I will go outside & check on it 1/2 way through but that's it, so easy ""&"" No Heat at all [from Cooking] in the House ! : )
