Loved this so much from the Carrot Cake, kitten playing with scissors, family pictures and finally but not forgotten, mom and dad with their 2 canine fur babies❣️Oh and Especially the thrifting trip ❣️
What a perfect day..❤ Family gathered, delicious food and amazing scenery. Looking forward to Thanksgiving in the States...thank you for the inspiration and sharing. 🍁🍂🍁🍂
Dear Suzanne, I enjoy your videos always, the cooking and baking, the huge family comes togethe. Your carrot cake will be the one I like to try to make. Thanks Suzanne, lovely Canadian lady. You are very authentic and inspire me to keep cooking in a simple and healthy way. I come from a big family and learned to be creative and to stay on good houshold budget. Take care, Suzanne. Sending you lots of love from Powys in Mid-Wales ( I am a German) Greetings to Canada from Heike
Sweet memories for your family! Thanks for sharing the carrot cake recipe. Suzanne - I have to tell you that I have started looking for vintage cookbooks after watching many of your videos.
This makes me so happy!! 😀 I hope you find some good ones. I prefer 1950’s and older. But I also like homestyle country cooking, which is why I also like to find the older Mennonite or Amish cookbooks. They have some really great recipes.
What a lovely gathering, Suzanne! You are blessed with such a beautiful family. I'm so glad you shared their visit with us. Everything looked perfect..from the cake to the curtains! Happy thanksgiving and God bless you all❤
Suzzane, I was thinking about you a couple of days ago when I was at the local thrift store. As my friend was browsing the store I saw three shopping carts full of books for $ .50 each. I rummaged through all the books and found two 1950s Betty Crocker cookbooks. They still had the grandma smell on them if you know what I mean. There was just a certain smell of grandma's kitchen that brought back memories. I also like to find vintage garden books from years ago. They didn't know that they were organic gardeners back then because it was just how everyone gardened. Those garden books are all so detailed and some even have stories about their gardening. I found a book on foraging from that era as well and a natural remedy book. It was quite the hall. The entire stack of books filled with my grandparent's generational wisdom and knowledge came to a whopping $3.21 (4.43 Canadian dollars). They will be a great addition to my library and give me plenty of hours of Winter pleasure. I have a special room in the house that is my own private library with my books and magazines of interest as well as a Chrome book to read my digital books. A goose neck lamp looms over my recliner to give my old eyes plenty of light to relax and read. I'll be heading off to my family in Las Vegas for Thanksgiving this year. It's always a special time to be around family on holidays. I've not been able to celebrate with my family there for many many years due to family responsibilities where I live. I found an affordable plane ticket so, I'll be riding the big iron bird once again. Three hours of flying compared to 23 hours of driving is much better. Our American Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday in November. I pray that your family gathering was a wonderful one and the carrot cake was a hit. Nebraska Dave Urban Farmer
Dave, I am so happy for your thrift finds!!!! 😃 That is so awesome, and you just can’t beat those prices. I can just imagine you snuggled up with those books on a cold winters day. So glad you get to go visit family for your American Thanksgiving! That is wonderful news. In my previous video to this one (my Sunday reset), I shared your whole wheat and honey bread recipe, as I have been making it non stop since you gave me the recipe! I made it in the video as well. Such a delicious recipe 😄 Have a wonderful week! ❤️
Thank you for sharing your Thanksgiving Day. Ours is not until next month, but I am looking forward to gathering with the family. Cherish your time with family. Since I am older now, many of the family have passed away, so seeing our love ones is very important. Loved the two cookbooks, they are a real treasure. Would love to go thru them. I hope that day of joy continues for you and your family. Happy Thanksgiving. Joan
Hi Joan!! 😀 You are right about spending time with family. The years go by so fast. My sister’s kids looked significantly older in just a year’s time. We only get to see them about once per year. I’m still excited about those cookbooks. I’ve been too busy to sit and have a really good look again. One of them had a some canning recipes, which I love! I hope you have a wonderful week 😊
I wish our Thanksgiving was in October rather than November. It would be so nice to have a bit of space between that and Christmas. Everything looked great! Your husband posing at the end made me laugh! 😂
Beautiful Family! SO PRECIOUS to be together! The cake looked so good! Carrot Cake is my favorite! I’m with you about the nuts. However, I like the raisins in it.
Hi Barbara! There are some very interesting recipes. I noticed that the ingredient lists are quite short. They didn’t have access to the amount of variety that we do today. But they didn’t lack creativity!
Hi Suzanne, loved this video. You did such a beautiful job. I have such a fondness since my soninlaw is Canadian and I love all that is Canadian. Thanks for sharing your family! Karla in Cali.
Thanks for sharing a Canadian Thanksgiving with us. The pic with you hubby and the dogs is👌. And then there was carrot cake😩. Looking forward to trying it some time.
Love your video. Great TG with family. Thanks for sharing your carrot cake recipe, its one of my favaorite cakes too. Must try with crushed pineapple.😊
Love these kinds of gatherings! I see your father is doing better? You and your sister look alike. Did you get new living room furniture? Love the new curtains.
Yes, my dad is healing well. He is slowly getting back on his feet (thank you for asking!). I did get different couches. The living room is hard to navigate in terms of decorating and creating a functional space. 😊
Thank you so much for sharing this day with us! Love to see your family all together and happy. The cake looks amazing. I will be making it for sure. (I can’t put nuts because there is a few they don’t like them 🥹🥹) but I will maybe maybe two and one I will put lots of nuts 😀. Love your videos. Please make more slow cooker recipes. Many blessings. ♥️
Very lovely, what a wonderful celebration. One gentle perspective to consider regarding your oft stated "disappointment" with not being able to put the nuts into the carrot cake that was shared by all. My cousin nearly died, could not breathe, had a trach put in, even then, it was touch and go and spent Christmas in the emergency room, because someone didn't disclose nuts being in a dish. Imagine how "disappointed" she and her terrified parents felt. While you were kind to make the shared cake sans nuts, please try to remember that people with severe allergies, could just stay home so that no one else had to deal with their allergy. They could and often do, bring their own food to every event, just to be sure. They never get a break from their allergy, they must be ultra vigilant or face dire consequences. For the rest of us, it's a tiny inconvenience, common courtesy we can extend in the name of love to step into our loved ones shoes for just one day, just one dish - a dessert that likely most of us could do without indulging in anyway, truth be told, lol! Thank you for hearing this in the spirit in which it is meant. I love your videos, your veggies and oh, your pets are adorable. Sweet little beggars, ha! ha!
Oh my…. What a tragic story, and a definite reminder to all. Thank you 🙏. I didn’t mean to come across as inconsiderate. Rather, I was thinking of my daughter, who made this cake for me and shared the recipe! I don’t make sweets often, as I can definitely do without!!! 😅 I appreciate your thoughts on the subject 😊
@@thefarmerswifecanada You are very dear to understand to take my post with a gentle heart. Thank you. Before that happened, my family was tolerant, but would maybe say things like, "Oh, that's right, the cheese ball can't have nuts" or whatever. After Laurie's horrific incident, we never even thought such a thing. Do you know how wild that situation was? The ambulance got into a minor crash on the way to the hospital because there was an ice storm. So much could have gone worse and we all realized how blessed we are that the Lord was watching over my little cousin. Take good care and again, thank you. PS - I seldom bake, as then I enjoy and so if I bake, I try to send the leftovers home with others. Otherwise, my ample rear benefits, lol!
@@thefarmerswifecanada You are very sweet. Trust me, our family had renewed sensitivity toward my cousin's allergy after that traumatic incident. Wishing you a wonderful day!
We had 2 turkeys and a ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, sweet potato casserole, buns, veggies, and a jello dish. So much food!! My sister did a separate crockpot of stuffing so there would be enough for everyone! 😀
What a beautiful family you have, you are so lucky to have them all. Family is everything! ❤
