I watched one of your prior videos and took the tip of clearing the countertops/decluttering. It made a huge difference. The toaster, paper towels, compost bin, water boiler, excess cutting boards all put away. My husband who doesn't really notice things like that even commented how much he liked it. Thank you!

This is really helpful advice for homeowners! As a renter, I would love to see a video on how to add luxe touches to a rental kitchen on a budget (i.e. from the tablecloth, to the table you choose, to which items you leave out on display vs. tuck away, to whether you add a lamp or art). And I'm not talking about peel-and-stick countertops 🤪 I see that some of these tips, like the lighting tips in this video, do apply. Thank you Valentina!

Dear Valentina, I love listening to your design advice and trends. One gripe I have is the trend of under the counter microwaves! From what I have been told it is professional decorators who are pushing this trend. Who is on their knees or laying down on the floor cleaning the inside of those microwaves? Simply not practical. Maybe combination microwave/ovens have self cleaning? I really don't know, but no wants to self clean often when it takes a minute to clean the inside of a microwave when it is at a comfortable height. What about on top of the counter height built-in or higher?

Hi there ,I am remodeling my living room and kitchen to be an open space but I already had remodeled my entryway and hallway with gray "rustic" laminate floor from home depot.. so I'm not sure how to transition to the rest of the flooring as I don't want the same style there. Not sure if you could elaborate maybe even make a video of two different types of floor transitioning to each other etc. Can you please help me on what color or style would look good? ( I wanted either a dark chocolate wood color -OR- Big white/ gray marble squared tile. So not sure) 😅 help please? I love your ideas and your energy!!! What about those of us that have traditional homes? Most of the suggestions are for modern and contemporary styles. I’d like to incorporate some of the ideas and combine with what I have to be more eclectic. Can you do a video touching that? Plus I’m wondering when modern and contemporary trends will give way again to traditional? Seems like the trends are changing according to what we’re seeing in magazines.

Valentine style is contemporary, European contemporary. So we’re always going to see her leaning in those directions. But so many of us out there are more traditional or at least transitional. I find subway tile is a classic choice & looks great in those kitchens. I like the newer subway tile that has a timeless look. But I for one cannot live without color and warmth.

This is my first video. I loved it and will check out your Pinterest. My Thermador range was nothing but junk and don’t recommend it no matter how much you have. I swapped it for a Zline. I will see what happens. My Viking wine fridge quit too and I will also go with a cheaper high end model rather than pay to have it fixed. I also like quartz over marble because I have ruined marble. IKEA kitchens can be sprayed with any high end color and look expensive and really nice. I still like subway tile on high end understated farmhouse design. Good advice on the hood. I didn’t think of that.

  • @LULC0759

I find I like the updated version of subway tile better than that older classic look. When I moved into my childhood home three years ago I put in Quatrefoil tile design. I’m tired of that…to me that dated the kitchen I think subway tile is timeless. But I can see how it wouldn’t work so well in a ultra contemporary design.

We had a tenant from 2016 to 2021 March. Someone damaged our kitchenaid stove/oven range. Was part of my K/A Suite. We hat a wtty on our appliances. The stove was replaced with a GE and it has the high back. Though its not a clean look what I like is that the knows are in the back. This eliminates getting turned on when you lean up or clean it. The color matches well. Anyhow we had discovered alot of damage the tenant did. Its awful. We are still piece working. But im taking my time. I'm repainting my main rooms. 80% of our (6yr old) appliances died in one year. 😭. I got a $699 Smeg dishwasher that takes a panel front (custom panel to match my cabinets was about $100). Great dishwasher- crazy to install because it has European fittings. 😮. Got a slide-in oven from Frigidaire and it was $715. I put a small microwave in my pantry and installed an insert style range vent ($300), had an HVAC guy do the venting ($450), and ordered a beautiful, white oak panel for the face of it ($110). No more microwave over the range. 🙌🏻 The fridge is the only thing left to figure out, but it hasn’t died yet.

If you want to know how to use color brilliantly in a kitchen? Watch Mcgee & Co. TH-cam. They use vibrant blue, rich forest greens, cabinets with multiple different finishes in different colors, and it all looks marvelous. I love you, Valentina and I learn a lot from you. But, you are NOT noted for your brilliant use of bold color! You're more a black, white, and every shade of grey kinda gal.

I did my kitchen on a relatively low budget and I'm really happy with it. There are clear differences between my kitchen and a truly high end kitchen, but overall, if you plan wisely and pick and choose what's most important to you, you can get a pretty good result. I think one non-negotiable is a solid surface countertop, i.e., quartz, marble etc.. And you'e right, the flat top range is pretty essential. Thanks for this! 🌸

@@ericksonsails I chose this model -Samsung 30 in. 5.8 cu. ft. Single Oven Gas Slide-In Range with Self-Cleaning and Fan Convection Oven in Stainless Steel (Silver). We've had it a couple of years and so far so good. You can see a few shots of it in my kitchen tour video. Hope this helps 🍁

Loved these tips and so much agree with you on the subway tile, we ended up going the same as our bench top as our splashback and it looks amazing, everyone seems to have those subway tiles especially when you have a Hamptons style home, I wanted something different. Great video as always V, and love waking up on a Monday morning to your video. Cheers from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺😍😍

Hey Valentina…my kitchen Reno was on a low budget however I do have beautiful quartz countertops, and a slide in range. I also went with a glass range hood and white glass beveled 4x12 subway tiles and a built in off the counter microwave with a small wet bar and wine refrigerator. I’m now questioning my hood and backsplash even though it’s not the basic subway tile. I do love the seamless look of the countertops continue as backsplash.

When we bought our house it came with bosh range and dishwasher. The range is fine but I hate the dishwasher, the bottom basket isn’t on rails and it is hard to push back in, it comes off the track all the time. The machine it’s works fine but that 1 detail is super annoying. The house we used to live in had one with rails so I never had to fix it. Also the tip basket wasn’t designed well, the machine might look sleek on the outside but the inside just sucks. - I remodeled my uncles house in 2019, the kitchen hadn’t been updated since the 70s. There was a microwave oven combo in the wall. When I was looking at wall ovens they were $3000+ and it wasn’t guaranteed that it would fit. Since we had to redo the entire kitchen I got rid of the entire thing and put in a range since those have standard sizes that can be changed out easily. My cabinet dealer and I discussed what we had and what we could do instead, I wanted that space to be a big double door cabinet that had pull out shelves. It didn’t cost extra, I actually saved since I didn’t have to spend thousands for a separate oven and stove. I also did the integrated hood, with how the kitchen is laid out a statement hood wouldn’t have worked at all. The kitchen is a U shape and one side opened to the dining room, instead of putting cabinets over that side again we removed it to open up the view, it made a huge difference. I did lose some storage but I made up for it because on the opposite wall there was an empty space and I got a cabinet installed there. It’s better the kitchen and dining room, before my uncle had a desk there and I was like, pantry/broom closet! It made a huge difference. The kitchen was so dark and cramped feeling but a few small changes made a huge difference. I also got rid of the harvest gold backsplash lol, that had to go!

Loved all the tips, totally agree on everyone. Just so that your viewers know, Gaggenau, Siemens,Bosch and Balay are all the same company. They all have very similar looks for their products, so if you can't afford the high end appliance look at the other brands from the same company. I also think that having integrated appliances makes the kitchen look so much more high end. Italian and German kitchens are always super high end and they love to hide their appliances. I do find it interesting that in the USA quartz countertops are cheaper than marble, in Europe it's usually the other way around. And don't forget that you don't have to have Italian marble, most European countries have their own local marble that is affordable, so maybe look into that as well. The hardware can make a really big difference to the look, my family personally likes handleless doors, and soft close drawers and doors all the way 😁👍. Again excellent video 😁 and I love your blouse as well.

Only place I’m happy to see a subway tile is in a bathroom. I wouldn’t have it in my space but it can look really nice. For splashback/backsplash, no tiles, a solid slab of glass or marble or something else is so much better. For countertops I still love concrete as well as the options you mentioned. I can’t believe I’m going to disagree with you on something but no, no, no to the coffee machine left out. Yuk. But I’m a minimalist. I don’t like any appliances left out. Soothing, serene space is what feels luxe to me.

Great video. Two questions. Are black cabinets going to stay the course? Or am I going to regret it in two years. My selections need to be finished being picked by December. Also, is there a max length for an island before it becomes too long and a barrier? Thank you for stating clearly not to do the stainless hood vent. Would you do a black one if you HAD to put one in? Do you like the meile ones that angle 📐 up?
