I am a graduate structural engineer from Nairobi, Kenya . I actually graduated but i had no much interest in it. Thank you so much for highlighting so much essentials necessary. My passion and enthusiasm is rejuvenated.🇰🇪 🇦🇺
I am a graduate civil engineer from the Solomon Islands, and I am excited to pursue further studies overseas, with a particular focus on structural engineering. I must say that this information is extremely valuable and has been instrumental in my decision to embark on this academic journey.
This is awesome, thank you. I have been out of the field for 3 years and now planning to get back in. I am preparing revision plan, you have left out my favourite subjects FEM, structural dynamics and structural analysis. Can you do a quick type out on how these advanced topics tie what you have already recommended. Thank you.
Thanks! FEA and structural dynamics are definitely more advanced topics but they are something you can squeeze in after you’ve done the fundamentals :)
Thanks! I use my laptop for anything heavy duty (analysis programs, drawing markups etc.) and use my tablet for more mobile and lighter things (site inspections, calculations etc.). I have a full video on my channel about everything I use my iPad for. Check out that video if you’re interested to learn more :)
How would you find design loads on non-orthogonal slabs like circular slabs or triangular slabs manually so that you could compare with the software program?
As a French student in civil engineering but likely structural engineering, are you recommend me to begin with autoCAD in 2D n 3D ? Or i should learn something else ? Thank you for your excellent video
Dude can you please do the manual analysis for 3d structure 4 columns and 4 beam with 2 stories result compre to staad or any structure analysis software
Hi Ben,thanks for your efforts and channel Can you please write the names of the softwares you mentioned as it will be more convenient to look them up Might worth adding them to the video description
Hi Ben, Thanks for this video. I appreciate your work to help and guide the aspirants like us. I am a Mechanical Engineer working as CAD designer/Project Engineer in the field of Steel manufacturing (CAD design and Shop detailing of steel works) for almost 4 years. I have an extensive exposure in structural engineering where we receive already engineered design and we produce CAD design and then manufacture accordingly. I do have a knowledge and understanding of concrete footings, slabs, reinforcement etc. Also, the type and nature of loadings and their behaviour. A partial learning was accounted in my Mechanical engineering degree. I want to now learn structural engineering analysis to pursue a career in Structural engineering. Would you please suggest a pathway and the possibility to be a Registered Structural Engineer in the future despite having a Mechanical Engineering degree? I have already started practicing the Skyciv software from the tutorial videos.
I think the easiest way to become a structural engineer given your experience would be to do a masters degree in structural engineering. These courses are usually 2 years long (in Australia). Without this degree I think you would struggle a bit and it would be hard to find an employer that would actually hire you as most job applications require you to have a degree in civil/structural engineering. Hope this helps :)
Hi Ben, I'm a second-year structural engineer. What would you recommend I do to prepare for my career to succeed in landing a good job after graduation?
I am graduate civil engineer with more than 10 years of work experience. But I mostly were based on site/construction project management roles than the real structural/design things. However, I am very much interested to learn real structural engineering/design and in this regard, is it possible for me to learn structural engineering & design program after such long gap?
Yeah I definitely think it’s possible. You’ll have to put in the required work but if you really want to do it I see no reason why you can’t. Your onsite experience will be a big help too.
I wouldn’t expect anything lower than 60k but this number can be a lot higher too and up to double in some roles/industries. Typically construction/site roles pay more than consulting roles and anything to do with mining will pay the most. Hope this helps :)
Hi, mate I'm in Perth currently studying civil engineering just finished my first year about to go to second year in feb,i just want to ask you where can i learn these software's from scratch litterly the lecturers in my uni are just story tellers and not help you much....cheers bloke !!!!really good vid
There are videos around on TH-cam explaining how to use various program and there are also paid courses you can take on platforms like udemy. The ones on TH-cam usually aren’t very structured so they aren’t good for learning from scratch. I might make something in this area soon, would this be something you’d be keen on?
please make a sample design of each project like how to design any type foundation under any code and plz share the file hand solution if we are trying to compare with that, as i watched alot about structure engineers utube some of them the same but love to downlaod there file and compareing with my own. u did on rcc but i watched its 39 doller which is too much for independent student, thanks
Bro steel and concrete design is really confusing. It’s easy yo understand but so much to keep track of. What to keep track of is too much. Is there no summarised design guide to know exactly what’s needed to design any single structure.

This is gold. Currently writing my thesis. Thanks for your videos.
Thank you!
Great video man! Really comprehensive guide to making the most of your studies and early experience, love it.
Thank you!
Hey mate I reckon you're bang on with this! Low-rise design graduate watching from NZ
Thank you!

Thank you!
Your content makes me love structural engineering field more ❤
That’s great to hear, I’m glad you like it!
@@BEngHielscherare you left this industry (structure engineer).
Very good points . It would be nice if you could put up a video on timber design.
Thanks and I’ll add it to the list! :)
You are thé best , i'm watching from Togo
Thank you!
Wow! You are really amazing, please keep doing videos like this, it helps a lot. I’m a beginner though
Thank you!
Please make one video. Clear out concept also please tell about how you make your notes 😊.
Great video. I wanted to know how (what tasks) you use your pc, laptop and tablet?

I think you are better off learning a structural analysis program rather than a drawing program
As a working structural engineer, I suggest you to learn AutoCAD 2D too.
Which program did you use to create the visuals shown throughout the video? Keep it up!
I used Final Cut Pro :)
Thank you! They look awesome!
Thanks for the video
My pleasure!

Can you give an insight on structural engineers salary range in Australia (vs. Cost if life and average salary in Australia?)
a video about it might be helpful
Maybe I can, I’ll add it to the list :)
Thanks alot. Please tell which TH-cam channel is best for it . To learn.
❤thanks man

I think steel and timber would be easier to learn first so I would start with them
@@BEngHielscherawesome, thank you
I had a really struggle in understanding second moment of intertia "I " can you suggest some tutorial or learning material
hello BEng hielscher i am student in 3rd year in your videos i saw your notes, it is really good is there anyway i can get it.
I have some notes available on reinforced concrete structures. See the link in the video description :)

Watch my video called “how to get ahead of 99% of engineering students.” These tips will put you on the right path :)

Can you make a video on impact of artificial intelligence in structural engineering in coming years
I’ll add it to the list, thanks for the suggestion! :)
Would this video change much if you were focused on structural engineering in terms of bridges instead of buildings
Not overly. I think having a general understanding of all these basics will be beneficial no matter what area you go into :)
Hey Ben,
Moving to Australia in few weeks.
Can you share how much a fresh structural engineer can earn in Australia?
Give a range for now plz
