  • Our Green Tree Python has destroyed her cage. We need to build a perch that she can't knock down. This will also give us a chance to clean her cage.

    I got my biak tamed pretty well. It was very nervous and bitey when I got it, now I can reach right and grab. Only time I have to watch is feeding time, as it starts to strike at anything once it smells mice.

    Here is a question where do you place the thermostat probe in your terrarium? I didn’t see it in video but I know it’s there as you said it’s plugged into a thermostat. I just bought my first GTP neonate and want to make sure I get it fas close to perfect for her. I using a ceramic heat emitter from above with my pulse/dimming tstat and cant get a direct answer on probe placement for their basking spot. Currently I have it zip tied to the top perch direct under the heat where she can bask in 87-88*

    I would love to get a gtp one day but im 16 and my parents are scared of both rats (specifically mum doesnt want rats in the freezer) as well as snakes. I cant even have a gecko because they dont like bugs, but one day it will happen

    • @lunar1821
      @lunar1821 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you can get a small freezer in the garage or something. That’s what am probably going to do

    • @lunar1821
      @lunar1821 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And if your talking about crested geckos they mainly don’t eat bugs in captivity. Usually only give them bugs once and a while. They eat a powder that you mix with water.

    What type of lightbulbs are you using for heat on your Green Tree Python? Whenever I do anything like that with my lightbulbs on a thermostat they end up burning out usually within a few weeks Or a month tops And I’m using brand-name lightbulbs from either zoo med or eco-Tera. I use a similar set up for my animals that are on display not for breeding and have terrible luck with my light bulbs LOL

    • @OlympusReptiles

    Hi, Matt like your logs can you tell me what kind of cage you have for your GTP? Also the lighting what kind of bulb do you use? and heating bulb? I want to get one, can you give me some tips how to build a cage like yours, Thank you

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The GTP is a front open cage by exo terra. It has a lot of coconut bedding to help with humidity. I made a plastic cover for the top to keep the humidity in. The top has a red heat bulb (the micro kind). Underneath is a heat pad. He is never on the ground, but heat rises and the overall is warmed. It also heats the substrate that I moisten a lot, and causes the humidity.

      ogfergi not sure, just that biak is typically the largest

    • @mikelburnap9387
      @mikelburnap9387 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorong it's the most tame and males typically stay at a smaller size (like 8-11 hundred grams)

      I don't think Gtp's make good first snake

    • @joe_phelan
      @joe_phelan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ogfergi I would start with something else, but if you do get one get a USCBB one from a responsible breeder. USCBB not CB. Biak's are the most commonly imported and therefore more difficult to work with

    Hey I am researching to get a GTB. However am trying to find what size exo terra is good for an adult. This one is in a 60x45x45 but when its fully grown should I invest in something like a 60x60x45, 90x60x45 or the new Exo terra canopy tank which is 90x45x45?
    All advice is much appreciated. Really interested in a display snake to complete my collection but I want to ensure its tank is perfect condition!

      More space is never bad, as long as they have multiple places to hide and hang. So plenty of perchs (at least two across) and some cover is good

    i love your gtp so beautiful matt. Hey matt i have a question i have a ball python she is about 365 grams ive been feeding her two mice every week because the pet store by my house only has small mice and medium rats. i just want to ask is this okay to give her two mice back to back every week and should i give her the medium rat next week, instead of another two mice. should i go a buy a frozen small rat.
