      @@jorami4838So? You really think they're breeding spiders for money? Get real. He loves the morph. Nobody is making a lot of money on spider balls... especially these days with all the new young woke keepers. Spider ball pythons are fine... Most don't have the wobble that is extreme. I've encountered many, many spider balls through my life and most of them are fine.

    You were one of the main reasons I chose to go with a ball python first instead of a corn. (And lets face it, BPs will always look cooler...) I picked up my first girl Monday. She is a Mojave. I was looking at snake after snake and kept coming back to her. Thanks for all the great videos and information. Just hate waiting a week. Haha

    Great video y'all. I just got my first yellowbelly (600g currently) female. This video pretty much answered what I need to breed her to once she's up to size so thank you for that. I also didn't realize yellowbelly to yellowbelly made ivories but I do now so thank you for that info as well. I'll be getting a black pastel male and a female fire at the upcoming Herps Conroe show here in Texas on the 27th so I'm excited about that as well.

    I posted last month about axanthics being a dream of mine and yeaaaaaa a lot changed in a month. I now have four snakes in the house and two that i have to go pick up this weekend and next week. "Starter Genes" being a firefly, an albino black pastel pinstripe, a lesser bee, and a pair of axanthic VPI, the female is an albino... and one normal! LOL! Four of which are proven breeders. Pretty excited about the possibilities with those genetics!

    My opinion before watching:
    Pastel, Mojave, butter/lesser, yellowbelly, fire, pinstripe. Affordable basic morphs!
    If you aren't worried about paying more, banana/coral glow are great obvious color mutation and mix well with lots of stuff and I really enjoy ghi patterns, a normal ghi is getting more affordable.
    Personally any mix of the above with yellowbelly is like icing on the snake cake for me too, it just jazzes everything up.
    After:
    LOL mostly in agreement! Same reasons. Excellent effects on pattern and color. My pref of pinstripe is personally down to wobble. You can mix sugar or calico and pinstripe to get similar effects as the natural spider but when something neurological obviously passes down the chances that it some day will be a bigger problem are too great to me to risk it. I love spider looks, but as it is some spider wobbles become extreme and the animal cannot eat without assistance, or just won't eat. They can injure themselves a little more easily that way as well, it's a QOL thing for me. Like if a mammal has a trait where it walks and moves or eats funny, you just don't breed it - and if you do it is considered irresponsible. So I guess that's where my opinion forms.
    I understand most spiders live perfectly healthy, normal lives but I see this wobble and it scares me from a genetic point of view. Today's wobbly cute spider is tomorrow's bloodred stargazing corn. I know spider isn't the only wobble too, but it makes me wary of any gene that carries it. I think anyone looking to breed should really do their research, make sure they understand the risk they are taking with some of these genes like deserts and super spotnose and spiders, and make a calculated judgement call. As long as the repercussions are understood, it's just about being responsible if you make sick animals after that.

      Stacey Roberts my piebald was a sweetheart from day 1. Didn’t even act stressed after the hour ride home from the reptile show (which I would think would be stressful for a baby in the middle of winter) just kind of curiously checked out her new home. 2 years later she’s even more sweet and I can’t wait to breed her next year!

    Very good info just what I was looking for. Do more on the starter snakes and mixing. What would you do? I have a female Pastave breed 2x to my male (just got all these all new) Pastel Calico (yellow gold colir) they have some cool calicos... have one of the daughters 1.5 yrs old. All these BPs are 5-6 yrs old. Then have a Double Pastel male. These 4 from one sale. Now picked up two girls 4.5 years old told they are Firefly s... one is beautiful yellow gold with black spider marks looks like a hornet. Other same pattern but pastel colors .
    Which of my two males should I pair with which female? Pastel calico for sure to Pastave. But to the two firefly spiders females not sure. Wish could show pic of two "fireflys" to get posted id. Looking to get spider female breeding size and female Sunburst breeder. Yes on a budget. Keep up these mixing vids. What would be unorthodox to breed combination? Ps the BPs I got now previous owner paid for 3 bout $4000 6 years ago from breeder in WI.

      trenton mcpherson you could do this but it would take years to prove out, and it gets messy trying to figure out which offsprings are what axanthic gene unless you are super keen on the differences.

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it will change the look at all. Plus as stated it turns into a mess. I don't think anyone can tell the difference in truth. I know several very experienced people with axanthic who have gone down that path, but never heard results. I think it a dead end

    I'm still waiting for more morphs. I know that there are still more to squeeze from the ball python genes. We still have no solid black ball python (melanistic), solid yellow ball python (xanthistic), solid red ball python (erythristic) yet, whereas that's one of the most common morphs of most animals especially we have the red pigment from its relative short-tailed python, and it's not impossible to do.

    Lesser, Mojave, Yellow belly, Enchi, Fire, GHI, Pastel, Leopard. You could build an empire with these genes alone yes sans recessives haha. Not saying that's what I'm doing but it can be done, unfortunately I got sucked into the recessives, it's a crazy waiting game if you aren't rich and can't afford to buy 70 gene animals from Justin Kabylka but heck start with hets and eventually you can make glowing snakes too. Love the channel by the way, keep up the great work.

    What about the neurological problems with spiders? Nearly every one I’ve seen in person was just moving unnaturally; barrel rolls and backflips. They can hurt themselves and sometimes even bite themselves during feeding.

    We got into ball pythons as pets, now are considering breeding as a hobby, and arent sure what direction to go to build on what we already have without a crazy high investment. We have a bumble bee male, a super pastel calico male, a 100% het pied 66% het ghost male and female (clutch mates), a normal female, a superfly female, and a lesser female. We worked on spending the initial money in good equiptment - herpstat thermostats on c serpent racks, and starting a rat colony to ensure we would have the correct size to feed babies, now its time to get a few more girls.

    Someone recomend me not to get a firebee for my 2nd breeder female. What do you think?

    • @OlympusReptiles

      KiraMajeric good snake! We stuck to simple single genes for this video, but a firebee (fire pastel spider) is a great breeder

    My first morph is a super fire female. Her eyes aren't totally black and are more like midnight blue with those red pupils and not a spec of yellow on her. Picking up an albino female tomorrow to add to the breeding project as well, though I'm mainly picking her up as she's a re-home situation. Not the most extreme first choices, but I love how fire works well with everything like pastel and lesser do and my girl Luna should mother some gorgeous babies in the future.

    • @MooncrafterUTAU

      Update: the "albino" ended up being a banana female. Breeding project just got a helluvalot easier with two codominant gene girls in my arsenal.

    Quick question for you off subject. I heard that during breeding season with a male goes into shed not to breed him until he sheds. So is it safe to say same goes with a female?

    Does it make a difference what morph your male is? Or do you just want it to be the one that mixes with your all of your females best? Also does one gender pass genes better then another or are they equal in opportunity?

    • @OlympusReptiles
      @OlympusReptiles  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Derrick Reidenbach equal and doesn't matter.
