- I've noticed that some of my plants are slowing down in growth since it is fall time. I decided to add a couple grow lights to supplement the light in order to continue growth. Hope this video helps you with your houseplants!

The Soltech Grove lights are so smart, and the warm dimmable light is gentle on the eyes. I also like the fact that you can swivel the bar to get a different light direction. All round it looks like a perfect solution to the reduced daylight months, and also for some apartments that have limited daylight exposure. Really informative video. Happy Birthday!...43 yrs old...just a Spring chicken :) (not telling you my age!).

Hi Jeff...belated b-day wishes. Did you happen to check what the foot candles are on the shelves after installing the lights? I have a milsbo tall and wondering if I would need 2 of the grove light. Thanks for sharing so much plenty advice.

I had he exact same question! I’ve seen so many videos of people with one light at the top and after I ordered it and received it, I used a light meter to see how it did and was really surprised at how low the foot candles were. I am definitely going to order another one for the bottom shelf in my cabinet but am almost wondering if I need 2 at the top. I might just adjust the top shelf so it’s closer to the light but not sure yet. I couldn’t believe how low the foot candles were compared to the $$$. I’m really curious at how these are working for people long term….

Where I live now is the darkest house I’ve ever lived in.. I get maybe 1.5 hrs morning sun a day in one window, and that’s it. Finally bought a good grow light (also Soltech) been a little over a week and I’m already seeing a difference…and sadly singed a few. I prefer the real thing, but grow lights are the best substitute.

Wow I thought you were in your 30’s. Plants keep you young lol. Happy Birthday and thanks for all your informative videos. Really contributed to my success with plants althought my mystery still continues lol. Soil, water, temp, humidity, and light are in point br my Alocasia just refuses to grow any new leaves. No leaves are dying either though. Its just frozen. Thinking it just went dormant perhapes bc it also has natural sun and maybe isn’t fooled by my grow light 😂

I see the command strips behind that light bar on the wall, me too! I’m renting I can’t be sticking stuff to the walls that’ll pull paint off or holes we need to repair, hey, happy birthday buddy!! Hope it’s a wonderful day for ya!! ❤(saw the command strips and commented before you mentioned them!!) still you gotta be careful with those strips if they’ve been there a while and lose elasticity
The torn portion of the wall behind the shelf is from command strips but I couldn't get a good grip on it so it wrecked the wall lol
I don't use grow lights because I am not a huge plant enthusiast. I have a corner with four windows, two facing south and two facing west. Almost all my 30 odd plants are grouped there. If they can't survive in these conditions then they are not for me 😁. So far they are doing well and I've only killed 3 or 4 four in the five years I've live in this home, but I don't have anything that takes too much extra effort.

I don’t have the best lighting in my home so I’m currently taking my plants outside on my porch to get some light. Do plants tolerate being moved back and forth daily?
That sounds like a lot of work. How many plants are you taking outside? And honestly I'm not sure if it's good or not. You have to be careful to not put them in direct light as it might burn leaves and then you'll be in trouble lol

Eventually I'll try the grove light. I'm just not crazy about my Aspect. It's so strong that anything directly in its way burns, but the ppfd is like nothing in the outer cone, so it's about too much or too little. 🤷♀️ I might like Sansi better.
I just bought some sansi....the gooseneck ones and those are bright.
@@EverythingPlants i think the aspect will certainly last longer. I'm at 600+ for the PPFD on the aspect at the top of my shelf (and that's a good bit away from the light). Lights are a never ending tinker. Ha!
Sadly, here in Peru i cannot find any growlights. I have no idea why they donot sell them.

Quite impressive results with the Soltech Grove light! And you got 3 of them...awesome! I just wish they were a little more affordable, then I'd buy one for each room 😆 For the moment I'll have to rely on our beautiful spring/summer weather ☀🌦 to do their job. Oscar is 2 years old and we picked that name. Pickles is now 7 and we got her when she was one year old. The previous owners named her and we loved it

Crazy how fast plants respond to light! It's like Daryl from history journal says, there is a maintenance level of light where your plant won't die but it won't thrive and then there is an optimal grown level of light which is why we should be using a light meter of some sort!
It blows my mind how much the light changes even from one inch to the next esp in windows! Like the left side of the window may be 2000 FC and the right side may be 200 FC and to the naked eye, it looks the same!
I LOVE daylight coloured grow lights or even regular lights! It's like I installed a window instead of a lightbulb! I'm sure that the grow lights also help with seasonal depression esp if you keep them on timers!
My sansiveria zeylanica grew a ton this summer under a 250 watt equivalent LED bulb. One shot sticks up about double the height of the others but it grew so fast you can actually see a colour difference on that one stem! I wish my ZZ's would get excited one of these days!
Yes....it is quite surprising the differences with light levels close to the windows.
The varigated plant that is on the floor, IS THAT A HOYA. I have a Hoya that is similar. I don't know the name so I don't know the color of the flower. What is yours ???? ✌🏻♥️
Yes! It is a hoya Australis Lisa. Has your plant ever bloomed for you? They have the strongest scent and only noticeable in the evening/night
@@EverythingPlants No it hasn't . I saw that yours has a white flower (second part of video). I have 2 Lisa's outside and they are growing like crazy but no blooms yet. My leaves on the one in the house may have a little more pointy leaves. White flowers most always have a delicious scent. Thanks for the info !!!!! ✌🏻♥️

I really like soltec, but they are so expensive
I consider them an investment and they look great! I've purchased like four or five Amazon lights for around 40 bucks a piece and I have one left over the last 1-2 years.

This is so funny because I've used this in other videos and people comment on it as well. The full story is less exciting.... I left it out in the rain. Still measures and does the trick lol I was honestly wondering how many people will comment on it again

I usually get nailed on the shipping costs, I wish the companies would put them up front, I've cancelled lots of orders when the item is a quarter the price of the shipping.
I'm in Québec and most of the items are in the US or China or Australia for plants 😂 at least the ones I look at.
The lights are a bit pricey for me :( are there any cheapter lights you can recommand too?

What are the light measurements on those lights?
Do you mean the foot candles?
Yup! I tried my reader on some cheap Amazon grow lights and the foot candles, while better than no lights, were still what one would consider partial shade. 😭
@@NFAslan if you going on soltechs website they have a grow quide. Essentially these are to be placed fairly close to plants... So I'd say they're designed for a shelf. Medium light is listed as between 1 to 12 in from the plant. Now when I use my light meter in that 1 to 12 in range I guess between 400 to 600 foot candles
There are different styles of lights that produce higher for candles but for a shelf this is the perfect light
I'm glad you posted this. I would like some grow lights, but the one I previously bought isn't too impressive (used in my classroom). I like that these are smaller, & most of all, are working! I hope you had a wonderful birthday. Love the dogs.

I did also buy one of the Grove lights on the pre-release because I love the look of it! I'd like another one but I can't justify the price for another. I tried the double-tap to brighten and cannot seem to tell if it's working or not. I haven't seen any extreme growth like you got but I feel like the plants on the shelf are still better off than they were.

That light bar cost $130.00 No way will I be will to pay that much for a light.
That is understandable for sure. I think of them as an investment. I have pruchased 4 or 5 cheap Amazon ones in the past and I only have one remaining. The rest stopped working or broke
