    Sometimes you can save the Dieffenbachia leaf! When that happens to me (I have 3 children, 2 cats and a husband lol) I bandage the leaf back in place and sometimes it will heal itself! I usually make a bandage out of paper towel and masking tape…it has to be somewhat tight so it can scab over

    Thank you Jeff! So many gorgeous plants.
    I've learned with two orbifolias (one in bathroom, other in living room) that they like to have consistently moist soil. Also, that they are not for newbies; I now avoid calatheas. My greatest success in this family is a Ctenanthe setosa that is thriving in homemade pon.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely don't let the orbifolia dry out and I also try and use distilled water or at least filtered water

    • @kathleenwarner4046
      @kathleenwarner4046 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine get filtered tap water; I'm too frugal to get distilled. I have ~5 different calatheas and they're all a pain. I foolishly bought into "they are good beginner plants"; not this beginner! Wish I had found your channel before then.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      The orbifolia is the only one that gets distilled. Everything else gets filtered tap water

  • @Mandi_Hui
    @Mandi_Hui ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lovely plant collection in your sitting room. It is hard to keep plants near the door way. The big table i would replace it with a tall plant stand instead to save place and put the plants on it. And the big ficus can be move more in away from the doorway to avoid damage. The bumps on the leaves on your jade could be Edema when excess water accumulates in plant tissue causing swellings that can look like blisters on your succulents.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mandy. We get freezing temps in the winter and I've had those plants there for about 3 or 4 years now.....I've never had any issues with the drafts. It has never dropped leaves because it was upset lol

  • @NatTayHill
    @NatTayHill ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ohhhhh, look at that snow outside! I was born and raised in Ohio just south of Cleveland and moved to South Carolina 5 years ago. I do not miss January in the north! Beautiful plants! I think your string of turtles looks great! I just can’t keep mine alive outside a terrarium. I think your’s look fantastic. (As for those bumps on your Jade… you could just remove all the leaves with the bumps and still have a FULL plant left!!!)

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not like cold, windy winter days. I don't mind the snow but I would definitely appreciate living in a tropical destination.
      I have removed a few of those leaves off of my jade plant but I have no idea why it has gotten those little bumps.

      The only way I could get my Jade satin to propagate was with a perlite prop box. Surprisingly, the roots developed fairly quick, but when I potted those cuttings in soil, it took quite a long time before there was any new growth.

    I'm pretty good with most plants, but I've killed one fern leaf cactus and now my other one isn't looking great either. I can't seem to figure out the right care for it. I have my surviving one in an east window, my humidity usually stays around 50-60%. Any care advice? Yours is incredible and that's what I hope to have one day!

    I just watched this whole thing again. Do your prefer clay pots or plastic ones? Do you use certain pots with certain plants? Or just what you have on hand when you are ready to pot? Just curious.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You watched it twice??? Thanks Lisa. I use both types of pots. I like using terracotta because it allows the soil to breathe and dry out much quicker then compared to a plastic pot. Plants that prefer not to dry out then I will use a plastic nursery pot

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hoyas have very thin roots and are susceptible to getting root rot easy. So I make sure the soil is completely dry before I give it any water again. Make sure it's in a well-drained soil as well

    Did you say how many square feet your house is? I feel like the plants you least like are upstairs 🤣🤔

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      Upstairs is just different types of plants...more common ones. There are many I absolutely love. I will be replacing some duplicate plants, like some pothos, with philodendron and anthurium.
      I hope it didn't come off as boring or anything like that....

    • @MarisaAndChew
      @MarisaAndChew ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EverythingPlants not boring at all! I just found it amusing that you had so many upstairs that you said you weren't really sure why you were still holding onto and downstairs you've got all the more rare show stopper types. Obviously, you love your Jade that's upstairs and a few others, but it almost feels like if you put the basement plants upstairs and the upstairs plants down, that you would probably neglect them BC they don't seem to fuel that very obvious passion you have for the basement plants. 🤔
      Do you have an adansonii or did I miss it?
      My turtles have been very thirsty little things this winter. I went from watering them once in 3 months to watering them about once every 10 days now. They're still in a 4 inch grow pot but they're getting long and the baby turtles are microscopic and cute! I wonder if perlite is heavy enough to grow them in. I'd like to ditch the grow pot and use this tall wine glass style thing (I've got the grow pot in it now), but I don't really want to see dirt. 🤔
