    I'm also a fan of fertilizing with every watering. I do a quarter tsp per gallon. Makes it way easier and you don't have to keep track of when you fertilize anymore.

      @@EverythingPlantsI just finished my pH test... Water from my tap is deep green whereas from my RO is blue( clearly states on my RO that it's alkaline with copper and zinc).. I dnt know what I need to do I mean are copper and zinc added to water beneficial to plants?.. both the waters are alkaline.. clearly I need to bring it down. Ordered the pH down. Hope this works!

      Yes! They both do so that's why it's good to test your water because you could actually be too acidic after adding fertilizer.

    Fab video!...it never occurred to me to test the PH of my water supply but seeing the dramatic results with your beautiful plants it makes so much sense...thank you! I'm fascinated by the subject of lighting for houseplants. One thing I've always wondered about is the intensity value of reflected sunlight/artificial light from mirrors behind and to the side of plants. I'm no scientist, but I'm guessing it would only be partially diminished by the thickness of the mirror glass?, so generally mirrors would be beneficial. I think an oscillating fan is excellent for houseplants as the extra airflow will mimic native environment transpiration (evaporation from leaf stoma) rate and therefore improve nutrients/minerals flow/uptake from roots to leaves :)

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is probably the biggest takeaway that I've learned from plants over the last few years is testing the pH of water. I will probably be making a soil pH testing video soon so stay tuned for that.
      Now in regards to light deflection with a mirror... I honestly don't know. I could definitely see it working without any complications. I've never tested it but I know I get sunlight reflected from my neighbor's house into my bedroom window early in the morning... Now whether that visible light translates into par (light that a plant uses) you would definitely need a par meter

    • @JoannaLouise200
      @JoannaLouise200 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EverythingPlants I'll always stay tuned...really enjoy your take on plants & your trialling of different care/propagation techniques. I have 60 cacti & succulents (and several aroids) so maybe I'll try experimenting with light & mirrors (sounds like a magic show!), and see what happens (will need to get a par meter). Looking forward to catching that upcoming soil PH testing video :)

    Personally I noticed the plants on my desk (exposed to a constant wind via desk fan) grew up to be stronger and slightly more sizable than the plants I bought at the same time, same farm, same genus. The only difference is the other plants I didn't have enough space for on my desk, so they got placed on my dresser where there isn't any wind. Similar lighting conditions too.
    It feels like the ones that get constant air end up having thicker stems and slightly faster growth. Just my experience though.
    Gonna start testing my water now, too, thanks to your suggestion. See if I can duplicate your growth spike, fingers crossed.

    I put a plant work table in my basement this past winter with some cheap Amazon gro lights. My husband put a water filter on the sink downstairs, I used pro-tek fertilizer by dyno gro and used that for all plants I repotted in the winter then added foliage pro in spring. I tested ph of water it was 7 so I brought it down in between 5-6. When it warmed up plants go on back or front porch. I left two plants downstairs a neon and a golden pothos. I started watering plants outside without the filtered water or changing ph. Except plants downstairs. They are sitting on the floor getting 8 hours of light a day filtered water and 5-6 ph and the leaves are about 5 inches wide the biggest pothos leaves ive ever had. So now I water all plants like this. I also noticed the vine of the plants doubled in thickness.

    I use a fan through all the warm months, I usually stop in like October BC it really does cool the air and I don't want to be cooling air I'm paying to heat 😮 I've always laughed at the "avoid drafts" because all of these plants, unless completely lab grown, are genetically used to surviving both temperature changes and changes in wind and it's speed. The plant community has some ppl shaking their fiddles everyday to replicate wind and then fearing doors opening and causing a breeze for other plants. IMO if you coddle them then your going to have very picky and weak stock 😂

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha....I open the door during frosty -30 winters here in Canada and my ficus is directly near the door and NEVER had any issues. The fan is key for warm and humid conditions

      @@EverythingPlants I'm assuming you have forced air heat and that's another that makes me laugh. Seeing "keep away from vents" like dude if I'm comfortable this close my plant is fine... Definitely wouldn't put a plant on top of the register vents but that's BC I kinda like the heat to be through the house 😬. The plant would prob thrive thinking it has the best heat mat 🤣

    I have a few tanks large and small and the cheapest way to lower your pH is to use Driftwood and leaf litter it drops your water's pH quite significantly into a proper pH level just by using tannin's ...food for thought!
    So when I do water changes in my aquariums to give that water to my plants soil waste no water for any of my hobbies... I recommend to all the plants parents out there you should have a medium size Aquarium to do the same your plants will thank you!

    So...in nature, there's wind. And wind does several good things for plants. I heard somewhere that wind makes the stems grow stronger as well, so it would make sense that using a fan inside would simulate that.

I’m feeling discouraged. my monstera has been loosing lead after leaf this summer and now I believe it’s the ph of our water, I stopped using RO and started using the city water which had a ph of 8.4 when I tested it. We hooked our house up to it a few months ago from well and well I didn’t think much of it. I’m thinking just use ph down for the next water or two for each plant then start back with fertilizer. Airodes don’t seem impressed… bananas last leaf is almost half the size. African violets don’t seam impressed.

      @EverythingPlants I typically use humidifiers in the winter, due to the heat being on and it lessening the overall humidity. During the spring and summer months, the windows are open or the AC is on. One plant place we stopped into a few weeks ago in Cockrane Alberta said they use pebble trays with Leca. Our plants all seem to do just fine in our home and have ajdusted quite well, however certain ones seem to be a bit more picky where they are placed, so it's been trial and error. We have a good 200 plants to care for, a lot of the same ones I seen in your video.

      @EverythingPlants We keep all our plants clustered or grouping them together to help promote humidity. I make it a habit to wipe and / or rinse all the leaves to help elevate any pests or dust. Have NOT had any issues with rinsing plants with a sprayer and getting any mold or fungus issues.

    700 fc for jade plant is high? Sorry but it is low !

      700FC is classified as 'high' light and this plant does just fine. Now jades, when acclimated, grow very well in full sun...1000FC +

      Full sun is like 5000 or more 😂 maybe you have PAR on mind and not FC ?

      @@rafalz9275 yes full sun is definitely in the thousands FC, but as a 'guide line' for beginners, those are the ranges.

      Thought the foot candle thing was a bit off as well, all my aroids get around 200-300 PPFD considered high end of moderate light to low end of high light I think foot candle equivalent is ppfd*0.2 which would be ~1000-1500 foot candle
