- I have used this shooting tactic for many years and it allows me to shoot more ducks and geese! Leading birds can be confusing but using this method it allows you to find the sweet spot fast! Shotgun handling is something that is learned, finding ways to speed up and sharpen those skills is a must!

The new Retay with Inertia-plus 3.5 inch 12 gauge weighs 4 ounces more than the 3 inch version with stronger springs. So 2 3/4 and 3 inch shoot with no discomfort although the 3.5 have a stronger recoil impulse. An 8 pound gun weight would be better to shoot the 3.5 shot shells. But it makes the others palatable to shoot. I am getting one with dark Cera-kote and a 26 inch barrel. Should be here by June 2019.

I guess I have a good tip here, I'm a trap shooter, now I know trap doesn't completely transfer to duck hunting, but it does get you pointing your shot gun and pulling the trigger. The thing I have found is since I put 3000 rounds if not more through my trap gun in the summer, that when I grab my bird gun, I instinctively can judge and hit birds at most angles and most speeds. If I start thinking about where my barrel is and my lead, I miss. If you want to get good, shoot enough to where your shots are instinctive, and all you have to do is focus on the bird and your body does the rest. Repetition repetition repetition. Mount your gun 30 times a day, dress in your hunting clothes and practice, learning to shoot is not something to learn in the field, practice on a target before shooting something breathing.
Guys might already know this tip but its good to be reminded. We all miss birds

Hands follow the eyes (hand eye coordination). Don't look at the bead you'll stop the gun and miss behind. Bear down on the beak and use your instincts.
