Been duck hunting for 20+ yrs and I love your videos. You can always learn from others. Like that you goof around, and are not so serious. It comes through that you want to help new hunters succeed. You definitely are a vet in front of the camera. I haven't had much luck with waders. Have tried different brands and they only last me 2 or 3 seasons. Keep em coming.
+Heath Kerce Broseph thanks a ton for the positive feedback. I love when you guys go out of your way to drop some positive vibes. I e learnt it's better just to be yourself in front of the camera than to fake it. Thank you so much man.
Heath Kerce you don’t have to get a really nice pair that cost three hundred dollars and if you do there is some stuff that you can buy to patch up a leak
Finally!! Someone who isn't pushing high end stuff to new guys with minimal knowledge and money. I started duck hunting with 2 doz beat up decoys I paid $20 for at a garage sale. A stoeger M2000 paid with the only 500 bucks I had and my grandads old fly fishing waders. Killed a lot of ducks with that setup. Since then I've upgraded a few things. Better decoys, Franchi Intensity (absolutely love that gun), warm waders, a dog and friends who duck hunt. Still very budget minded aka cheap. My mom made a dog blind out of tent poles and camo canvas and it hides him just fine. Now if I lived in a state that held ducks like you guys I'd be in the money. Keep it up love the vids
I want to say I live in Kansas as well and your videos have helped me so much. This is my first year duck hunting and this video alone has saved me so much money. Thanks so much and keep up the great work.
My first duck gun was a Mossberg Maverick 88. I was 16 just starting into duck hunting, and got it for like 150 out the door at my local shop. Since 10 years ago, I of course upgraded as the Lord blessed me with a great job. But that gun has killed just as many birds of all kinds just as much as my Browning A5. My son actually just started this year hunting with me, and I bought him a 20 gauge 88 at my buddys gun shop for his birthday. He's a crack shot with it, absolutely dusting clays. He's excited for September to get on some birds, and he shoots damn near every day. Even when we go to my parents, aka the farm/camp, he always asks "dad can we shoot clays?!" So thats how were spending our quarantine lol
The Duck Commander Jase Robertson pro series calls are great. Sound good, good material, no more than $40-50.. I always tell people though that they need to try a call before they buy it, never buy one online unless you've used it. Calls sound different depending on who blows it, and something that sounds great in a video could be a bad call for you. And when making a blind, use surrounding plants/trees/cane ect.. you don't have to have a house, just make sure you're Covered and can move and you're good. Best blind we ever built was a log that fell on the bank, put cane in front, behind and on the sides of it, a few pines that had fell, and limited out every hunt. Figure out what works for you and your location.
nice advice mate! i'm gona take a guess you had a 870 remington that jammed? have one myself have had the same problem but after scouring the internet i come across a comment saying make sure you run shells that have full brass casings. and i can tell you it works not gona use remington shells anymore!
I know this video is older, but I'm just now discovering it and subscribed to your channel because you seem to address the new guys to the sport more often than other channels which coming from a family of non-hunters, directly addresses me. I have one question though, you mention you got some of your gear from a buy sell or trade site, is there a specific one you use/used or are you meaning buy sell or trade sites in general, i.e. Craigslist, eBay, Facebook?
I in my browning auto 5 for free because I inherited it when my grandfather passed away same go for his calls though I never waterfowl hunted before because I mainly upland bird hunt but thinking about trying it soon.
I had another question about what you said in abother video......why wont you have another shotgun with a 3.5" chamber was thinking of getting one for geese but you make good points to the contrary
+bigman223able I shoot more geese with a 3 inch because I'm more experienced as opposed to when I owned a 31/2. That being said experience come better devoting birds also and less high shots..
I got a Winchester SXP which is like the semi auto SX Series but it's a pump. Supposedly one of the fastest pumps, cost me bout $500 and I originally got it for pheasant. 28" barrel and 3 chokes, full, modified, and improved. Will this gun work alright? This years my first year and I'm kinda worried. I haven't shot at one yet as used my uncles last weekend but am looking for your opinion because you look like you know what yer doin. Any help would be great!
Out Fishing Your Bass, if you're worried about hitting your quarry, pattern your chokes with the steel you intend to shoot, go shoot some clays and keep practicing. Any reputable brand shotgun will put ducks in bag. I started out with a Mossberg 500, used it for years, then i bought a Remington 870 express super mag, I wanted a 3 1/2" chambered gun, used it for a while and still do occasionally. Now my primary duck gun is the Stoeger M3000, absolutely love it. The two key things between the last 2 are, I patterned them and have shot a ton of clays.
Hey man, been watching your videos for a bit and was hoping you may have a suggestion for me. Just getting into duck hunting and I’m looking for a decent jacket, but the problem is that I need a tall size or it won’t fit. I’m 6’4” with a 31” inseam, so regular sizes just aren’t long enough. I live in Northern California so it doesn’t get crazy cold. Any ideas?
If you're using waders, jacket length won't matter too much. If need be, find a cheap, plain, brown hoodie and some spray paint. Make a grass pattern and spray the jacket. It'll work enough that you should be good to hunt in. I know that everyone can't afford Drake gear, but they do have some amazing jackets. I have the lightweight zip-up and sometimes wear a brown hoodie under it if I need it
Scout, scout, scout. Find where the birds roost and follow them in either the morning or evening and find the field that they are feeding in. Once you find the field, see if you can find who owns it to get permission. Location is key! Also study the birds as they work the field...the best teachers are live birds themselves!
I have a old500 with a polly choke for 100$ i upgraded to a stoger 2000 max 4 kiks high flyer. Mod choke my grandpa gave me. A improve mod and a full exteded choke gave 200 for it at pawn shop shoots great even target loads
I now every body opinion is different i. I had the stroger 3500 and it wasn`t what i liked it didn`t feel good . So i went out and bought a Remington Versa Max from Walmart for $ 800 love this gun never jammed on me . I`m bored watching old videos but enjoyed them all the same .
Only reason that I was able to start is because my dad had everything because he use to hunt a ton and then he stopped Now I am old enough to go by myself and I have more than enough decoys and mojos only thing I had to buy was some shells a gun and a pair of waders
Remington is the best shotgun and rifles and everything I love my youth 20 gauge I am 10 years old. My dad has the same waders and the boots cracked the first year.
Andreyna Summerdawn you do realize that duck hunters buy stamps and donate to DU, DW, and others to preserve and increase duck population right? If there were no hunters the duck population would decline because there wouldN’t be any funds to help them thrive.
