  • Hi guys, I'm Eileen. Ever since living a more intentional life, I often ask myself if I would buy luxury items again if I had to build my wardrobe from zero. I decided the answer is yes. After all, I do enjoy well made and beautiful pieces. That said, I think my luxury collection would likely look different from it is today. Just for some context, I bought my Chanel classic flap at about £2500. Regardless of how classic it is, I can't imagine paying USD10000 for the same bag today. I would however, explore other brands like Toteme and Loewe. In this video, I dived into how to build the perfect, practical, and wearable luxury collection xx

Exactly! It’s so funny how when I travel ,I bring along nylon bags that I will not worry about and leave behind the really nice luxury handbags. My sister would ask me, “how come I never see you with your nice bags in pictures when you travel?” and I tell her, the nice bags are of no use to me when I travel because I actually want to be “present” and be in the moment of being with the family and the pleasures of the travelling itself rather than think about damaging my bags or being robbed 😅

I relate so much to you! Holydays are the last places I take my bags with me and I choose light, easy to wear, easy to clean, worry free nylon bags. Last year when travel by plain a juice glass spilled out over my nylon bag under the seat in front of me and back at home the juice was already dry. I could clean it but imagine if it was one of my leather ones! I might open an exception for a small clutch that doesn’t take much space for dinners, but that’s all. Over the years I confess that I started to consider to be overdressed and exhibitionism to take that kind of thing on holydays in some settings, like resorts and sightseeing. If there isn’t a special event isn’t worth the burden.

I’m with 100%. I wanted the pretty Paris pictures with my bags. But the realization if they were to be stolen, I couldn’t replace them stopped me. And I’m glad I didn’t take any. I was carefree and it felt amazing.

@@Dropthesoapto Agreed. Three weeks ago I was traveling in Italy for the week, and the only bag I carried was a tiny suitcase shaped crossbody leather bag. I don't own designer luxury bags (early 20s, freelance illustrator-designer) and I love seeing other people's collections. I did not want to be targeted for my possessions, so I only took a bag that I could easily look after and hide under my clothes in overcrowded spaces. I would advise everyone not to carry backpacks all day while traveling as that's the easiest bag for robbers to target. My dad, a super absentminded person insisted on carrying the same backpack through the week and all the zippers were pulled down multiple times. Crossbody or belt bag is the most secure for both men and women to use.

I travel back and forth between two countries and since I didn’t want to damage my bags when travelling I sent some by freight boxes ahead of me. Then when pandemic hit, like everybody else , I wasn’t able to travel to my other home so the items got locked down in the other location for almost three years. That’s when I started asking myself “what am I doing?” 🤣. Life doesn’t have to be this hard! And for bags? Really!?!? So glad I found your channel as I was also doing my curating of my collection. You help reinforce the ideas that I am just beginning to realise. 😘

I totally agree with all you have said here, Eileen! I have some pieces, people think they are supper expensive, because they are sleek, look luxurious and the leather is a good quality, with discrete hardware and logoless, but they’re not. I am enjoying this moment, looking classy, feeling effortless put together, and minimalist, wearing my mom’s jewelry. But foremost, loving and living life to the fullest at 70’s. Have a blessed week ahead, Eileen. Please come back soon.

If I could start again from zero I would start my Hermes journey sooner and still wait for what I want rather than second choices. In 2012 there was no social media for helpful reviews, a lot of SA didnt hear me about my lifestyle/taste and I bought/sold a lot (ie lost money each time). 1 work bag, 1 errands bag, 1 evening clutch, 1 tote/travel bag and 1 « love at 1st sight bag » is all you really need! But love my collection at the moment😁

I started from scratch, for now I focus on handbags, I bought a bag in taupe color for brighter clothes and I am planning to buy a black one, I bought the one that I can use day time and night time, when it comes to brand actually I focused on the high quality brands with more reasonable price, like tusting, etc. so I enjoy more, worry less, and at the same time last long due to quality. The only thing that I didn’t know before and I learned in your channel about the type of leather so need less care! So I pay attention for next purchase. Thanks for sharing your experience 😊

Love this video ‘cause it means I’m on the right track. I’m contented with my pink Lady Dior, pink Chanel and a 3x pink KateSpade heart bags. Thankfully, I know what I like and took me years to finally decide to own a these few and LOVE 💕

  • @je-suis_Tati

I used to think like that, the more expensive the bag was the more I would worry about. Maybe I am minority and because I have been into luxury for years, I no longer think this way, I wear my bags and enjoy them. Yes I do care for them but I no longer let myself say that I will not take my bags here or there because they will get ruined 😅. I feel, the only people that stresses over this, are the ones that are thinking to sell. My thought process is, I bought them for me to enjoy, if ever need to sell, they will be sold at the condition they are regardless. If I were to start today, I will buy all the Chanel bags, SLG’s and other items I own today (sizes, style and color combos) instead of all black handbags I used to have. I would only keep exactly what I need at this time, instead of buying impulsively and excessively 😂

    Great Video, Eileen.
With your videos, hope to see more people looking for more value from handbags, rather than only chasing the main stream brand names. Be it the use value, the practicality value or the craftsmanship value.
If I would start my luxury collection from scratch, I would still buy my Chanel top handle and YSL small lou lou. They have the classic and elegant look which is consistent with my dressing style.
I have no regret for owning a curated luxury handbag collection because I started mine around the time when I discovered your channel and after I learnt about minimalism.
You are one of the reasons I did not start my luxury journey too big / too extravagant. And your weekly video reminds me to stay sensible on this journey. Thank you. ❤❤
As for jewellery, I am always the jewellery woman. I can leave my door without a luxury handbag, can’t do it without some jewellery. They put a smile on my face everytime I look at my jewellery. I equally love pearls, diamonds and gemstones. When I go travelling, I only wear a tiny diamond ring and a pair of not too expensive pearl studs. The expensive ones stay at home because I want my peace of mind throughout the trip.
You look so great in white and dainty diamonds. I also love dainty pieces of diamond even though I have the budget to go way larger. I really do not like being flashy and I find dainty pieces more elegant.

I watched your vid on your luxury minimalist handbag collection and this am so inspired. Knowing that you shared that you’re in healthcare makes me feel that i can relate to u too. I only started my luxury handbag collection finally at the age of 32 last year in december after finally owning a home a year later. My very first love has always been a Chanel, i tried it last year in jumbo and medium but since it was a christmas season, the jumbo was not instock. My first luxury shopping i brought my whole battalion of ‘2 mummies and our own daughters’ so they said nevermind lets try other stores. So i ended up buying 1 dior oblique book tote and 1 lvonthego christmas edition. Fast forward to this year, i bought a Chanel Jumbo in store and i was so happy that i made the right choice, i couldnt imagine choosing the medium because i just couldn’t downsize my stuff being a mummy of 2 young kids. I am thinking of adding the lady dior to my collection in medium size next year and with my small wardrobe, am planning the space to keep these bags. Already, half of my top wardobe is filled with the lv, chanel and the dior book tote boxes. So the other half am thinking of adding the lady dior. But also, i’m not sure whether to create a luxury minimalism of different brands of bags or just the classic lady dior and my chanel jumbo because i do like prada bucket bag, loewe basket bag, goyard and burberry. Really confused😂what do you think? Also i found out that prada no longer issue a box for their bags and i love one of their bag collection but i couldnt justify buying a luxury bag without a box, just like the goyard bags. Help!

Bags - I would also only have bags I will use then a special one or two. I reduced my number of bags to just what I love. Choices: Birkin, Kelly, Chanel small classic flap, LV pouchette matis, LV neverfull, LV speedy bandolier 35. I recently purchased atilier august for rainy day/ travel bag.

All bags shoes jewelry & other accessories too, would be neutral colors and simple and parable with each other. LESS is More. My SPEEDY would still be a part of my collection. As for bags, if i had to start all over...i would be replacing my contemporary, functional bags first (longchamps pliage for sure). My designer bags are more "art" or collectors items that are long since discontinued and hard to find

I love my collection atm, I started my luxury collection with the Givenchy's Antigona. I have never loved a bag as much as I've loved this bag. Then came the Loewe, LV, Goyard, Chanel, Mulberry and all the SLGs in between. I'm happy with what I have and I'm not looking to add to this collection unless the bag gets damaged. I don't like the BKC of Hermes so I'm never going to pine for it.

My collection would definite look smaller and concentrated on my main colors as a winter person: white, red, blue, black. Accent colors: pink, green, purple. Nothing else. Outfits and size for my real me, not my fantasy me … everything should match with at least 5 outfits. I still get distracted sometimes , especially with handbags. Thank God the preloved market is very good and when I find my color combination and lines I make my move. I know many opt to save luxury purses for special occasions but I personally think otherwise. It’s harder to find good quality, durable, everyday bag than to find a special occasion bag. The latter only needs the glitter/sparkly factor and doesn’t necessarily need to be extremely durable as it only needs to holds card, cash, lipstick 😂 Of course it’s a different thing if your main focus for a special occasion bag is to exude some status.
I am just starting my collection and missing the perfect medium size bag akin to a lindy or speedy but something more unique yet timeless so I know for myself I want to go contemporary for this category. I’m just waiting for the right one. For now my longchamp tote works well if I need tobring more than whatbfits my small everyday bags.
As for jewelry I’ve been pondering on investing on a cartier diamond for the longest time but ultimately decided to go bespoke. I contacted a local jeweler for this and my pendant design is currently in the works. I figured the reason I couldn’t pull the trigger to buy a cartier is deep down, I knew I only wanted to wear the gold chain my late mother bought for me for the rest of my life.

I have the same mini monceau bag. I hope it doesn’t become really popular on social media. I like the bag, but yeah I don’t want to see it all over social media.

What did you have to buy at Hermès to score your Hermès bags?

I think, if I had to do it over again, I would have made different choices. There are pieces I bought, but then later sold back in the 90s that I came to regret. I would have saved more, and bought much less.

For me I would only go for Quiet Luxury category like Loewe, Toteme, Celine for bags and Khaite for quality neutral apparels.
I totally agree with you on the financial aspects of life and not to be overly burdened and saddled with consumerism.
There must always be a perfect balance. To find that place amidst all the chaos in the world you still get to enjoy in your own space of what you have worked so hard for.
Lastly I love to listen to your ever soothing and voice too.

If I had to start my luxury again, I would buy the bags I currently own with the exception of my reissue and my woc. Those bags are just not worth the current price tag…sorry Chanel.
