      They're not wrong about many nuts, seeds and legumes containing anti-nutrients and plant poisons. That is why you should use fermentation if you want these things to be a staple of your diet, ensuring that you get the full nutrients and ensuring that you remove any toxins. The problem here is they tell you to simply not eat them and to have no variety in your diet. We have forgotten the old ways and live in a society of "convenience". The refrigerator was one of the worst inventions of mankind because now these types of methods which were used to preserve foods have been brushed to the wayside by the majority of people because they want to just have ready-made prepackaged goods that they can throw in a microwave, which also creates more waste when they throw away the packaging and that ends up in a landfill. It doesn't take much effort, but people want everything to be effortless. People don't have the same relationship with their food.

    There needs to be more research and more information here before just declaring chia seeds unhealthy from one study. First of all, have the results been replicated? What was the design of this study - how many subjects and how diverse, what was alpha on the t test, how large was the deviation between test group and control group; and even just how were the chia seeds prepared for consumption? Were they whole (as in chia seed pudding) or ground (as in a smoothie)? Were they soaked? Were they rinsed, or consumed with soaking liquid (if any)? And then, if we are concluding - and really it's just a hypothesis from what I can tell - that chia seeds contain harmful lectins, which lectins? And is there a known way to eliminate or decrease these lectins? Is there a traditional society that consumes chia seeds, and if so, how do they prepare them? There needs to be another study with a no chia seed control group, a whole chia seed group, and ground chia seed group, and the results compared with the study Dr. Gundry mentions here.

    • @nicolerogers5620
      @nicolerogers5620 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      yeah! I agree, I was under the assumption that chia was not health-full as it draws moisture into the bowel and causes inflammation in the gut. However, this is predominately when they are un-soaked or "whole". I wasn't aware of anything to do with lectin. It certainly sounds like conformation bias, reading one study and making the link between lectin intolerance and chia, not sure thats really credible. I would love to read these studies, wish the links had been posted or names of studies given??

      I agree, I think the study he's quoting which reports an increase in inflammation (generally), is a stretch to then form a cause and effect relationship between Chia and the inflammation. Does the study take into account other stresses those individuals might be suffering from, or genetic changes due to taking Chia, it's a weak argument. If there are inflammation concerns that can be resolved with Turmeric, combining foods to bring out the best results is the key, other foods can support eachother. Unless Dr Berg releases a new vid with the actual facts on the Chia seeds being inflammatory, I'd disregard this nonsense.

I don't even think she knows why but was a process passed on from generations. She also never used canned lentils but bought them dry and would soak them overnight. I've heard flax seeds should be bought whole and kept in the fridge. Grind them in batches and keep the ground flaxseed in the freezer so the oils don't go rancid, which they can fast if stored outside. You can use them from the freezer then.

    Very interesting. What if we soak the seed before consuming, just like we do with other seeds and nuts? Makes sense, mother Nature doesn't want us to eat the seeds, so they have elements which aren't good for us. But for instance, if we soak the nuts, they will loose they phytic acid (meant to preserve them intact till spring time) and they are good to consume - and even sweet : ) Someone has experience with this?

    Were the Chia seeds in these studies ground down to powder ? I've read about people not having a good reaction to Chia seeds until they were ground into a powder using something as simple as a coffee grinder.

    What about flaxseed and hemp seeds, are they okay to eat? Great information. I tried both white and black chia seeds. Had a reaction to them both.

      My best friend is allergic to anything with seeds. That could be a possibility.

    I didn’t an elimination period and then carefully reintroduced them...I’m not finding a response. I suppose a lab test would be more conclusive For now my jury is still out!
