    Hey, Rob. Thanks for the tutorial. Great workflow. While I am versed in linked text boxes, I'm curious about what approach you took to create the calendar boxes/outlines in the monthly view. Normally to create a calendar layout like this, I would use tables, but it doesn't give me as much control as I'd like, and I'm wondering if there is a smarter way. From what I can tell, if the calendar "frame" (i.e. outlines around the numbers defining each day) is created with tables, there's no way to link text from cell to cell and then insert discretionary breaks (to make type jump from one cell to the next like the calendar numbers did in your demonstration. And when I tried, as a different approach, anchoring text boxes for each calendar number within each table cells to see if I could link them that way, there isn't an option to link the text boxes. I then tried insert the various break options in front of the number 1 in the first cell of my table (anchored text boxes having now been removed) and the #1 just disappeared into oblivion without affecting the text in the next table cell.
    Do you just create your calendar frame/outlines separately and have the linked text boxes sit on top of it indepently? Do you embed or anchor them to make them all one unit somehow? Ot are you in fact using tables here and I'm just missing it?? Hope this all makes sense! Trucky describing these things in text only. Thanks for any tips you might have to offer. Cheers.

      Hi, Shelagh, I create the calendar frame/outlines using tables separately and have the linked text boxes sit on top of it independently, on another layer to keep things in order. \h

      Rob Cubbon Thanks for the reply, Rob. It’ll be a grand thing if Adobe one day adds threaded text boxes within tables.

    Hi, I was just watching your video on how to create calendars. I use Indesign to create calendars and sell them on Etsy. My question to you is how do you upload it to Amazon KDP to sell. I am having a hard time finding the right video for that. Thanks

    Thank you for this! I've been an InDesign user for years but have always used the "Calendar Wizard" script. It's limited though, particularly since I want to do a month or week on 2 pages. Using your instructions, I have everything set up and I'm at the last day of the last month...and I have the overset text warning in that last text frame. I would delete all of the numerical sequence after the day...but there are 50K characters according to Preflight! How do you "end" the text flow? (This is probably obvious, but I'm feeling very challenged ha!)

    • @robcub40
      @robcub40  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first thing to say is that, even though you're getting an error on preflight it doesn't mean to say that there's gonna be anything wrong with the PDF from that doc.
      There is a way to select all text in InDesign from where the cursor is to the end but it depends on which keyboard you have.
      Command/Ctrl-End moves the cursor to the end of the story, even the end is a hundred pages of linked text away. Just add the Shift key to get Command-Shift-End (or Ctrl-Shift-End) and you’ve just selected from any point in the text to the end of the story. Then you can cut it, delete it, or whatever you feel like doing with it at that moment.
      Here’s one more technique: Use the Story Editor. Place the text cursor in the text frame and press Command/Ctrl-Y. That opens the story editor window and places the cursor in exactly the same location in the story. The Story Editor lets you see and edit the entire story, no matter how long it is, and even if it’s overset (won’t fit in the available number of frames).
      I got this from a quick google: indesignsecrets.com/select-text-all-the-way-to-the-end.php
      \h

      Rob Cubbon oh perfect thank you! I did run into other quirky things, like running out of numbers at one point. Not sure where I goofed there! Thanks again!

    • @robcub40

      @@TheJemimabean understandable. If you run out of numbers, you can copy and paste them from earlier months? It's a bit fiddly but it's possible :)

    Do you over ride the master page in order to change all of the dates ?

    • @robcub40
      @robcub40  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To change the dates in the day boxes of the planners, no, you do not override Master Page items, you add and delete text in text boxes as shown in the video. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi Rob. I love the video and the idea but I'm struggling with how you have made the dates auto-generating the numbers after you add the 28 and 29 around 0:42 - 1:04. Can you share how you achieved this, please?

    • @robcub40
      @robcub40  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, Jim, you still have to type the 28 and 29 and the extra numbers to turn one year into another year. But, with the number in the text frames of the dates linked, you only have to type a few numbers! Sorry if my editing made this look better than it actually is!

    Hi! Is there a video on how to upload a calendar planner to KDP properly? I am trying to upload my manuscript and want my calendar on two pages but when uploading it the pages end up being on opposite pages vs. side by side.

      Interiors should be single pages. the first page is a right hand page, then left (2), right (3), left (4) ... etc.

      Hi Dawika, I'm sorry. The PDFs aren't editable. And the only way you can edit the InDesign files is with InDesign. Adobe software is proprietary.
