    I appreciate Shiras take on the searching, but i actually like how its all positive. You get the same feeling in the video game, when you see the shiny otwm indicator, you immediately get excited because you are going to get something to help you survive.

    great review but I think it helps to remember that SFG games are not meant to impress board game veterans. They're made for fans of the IPs who want to be able to recreate the experience of the game with friends and family. I've introduced people to Resident Evil through the SFG games and they always love it

    Also, the dice rolling is symbolic of fighting the enemies in the game. Lets say you use 3 bullets for a zombie and get 2 pushes but no damage. Then you use another 3 and finally get the 1 damage you needed. In theory, you just used 6 bullets to kill 1 zombie. In the games, sometimes thats how many bullets a zombie would take. You can easily use a full handgun on a HUnter to get 3 damage and in the game, thats fairly accurate

      No its not, you never miss in resident evil 1, its really hard to do. So its helps calculate how much resources did you have, and will spend, but in the board game, its not working, you can shot with grenade launcher and spend all bullets and dont achieve any result, then you get disbalance into micromanagement.

    I've got all of Resident Evil 2 and 3 from Steamforged. If this one goes the same way as the others:
    > It will stick very close to the video game's story.
    > There is no actual character progression, but you will likely unlock more characters, including advanced versions of some of the characters.
    > You will find more weapons that use multiple dice for one ammo / use the red dice.
    > There will be decent minis for each with variable poses.
    (There likely will be the problem with the Red Heads as they are just zombies with red heads in the game).
    > The tension deck will be getting gradually harsher as you go through the campaign.
    > The base box will be around half of the video game's story, but the expansion will finish off the story.
    > RE2 was not great for replayability (of the campaign), but RE3 was much better due to the open world in the base game, so I would expect this one to be even better.
    > RE2 and 3 were better played at 2 or 3 - 4 could get very hard. Some missions in RE2 you were very likely to run out of the tension deck (which fails the mission after the tutorial mission(s) if you played 4 player.
    I can definitely recommend the earlier ones. :)

      I would agree that if you are used to traditional dungeon crawl board games that you want to level up the character however this is based on a video game that yes you get better weapons and ammo but your traditionally thrown into a survival horror atmosphere, where no matter how badass you think you should be in the real world the zombies and hunters would scare the crap out of you, a very much flight or fight situation game, I am looking forward to it :D

  • @stephensturges5711
    @stephensturges5711 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    a 2 player game is much much more different than a 4 player. The testing scenario you guys did was easy. But later scenarios will increase enemies, limit resources and you also cant let the tension deck run out. so deck management is important and if you play with 4 players, you go through the deck much much faster than 2 players. and negative effects last much longer in a 4 player game.

    From my impression of this setup, room cards. It looks, perhaps one row or column too small. As suggested, furniture, moving objects, cover.. interacting in a larger area to deal with each room is a complete mechanic of the video game, - 'complete exploration of individual areas' which we love to look for those hidden pick ups.
    Would be a nice touch.

  • @stephensturges5711
    @stephensturges5711 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dont forget about the out of sequence reactions that enemies can make. It heavily enforces safe actions made by every player so that way you dont accidently puit your friend in a bad situation. I own both re 2 and 3 and went all in for RE and its by far one of the best coop game si ve played and as a huge RE die hard purist, it captures the game perfectly.

    Hey Alex, I have 2 questions:
    Can Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 be mixed in anyway (characters or monsters swapped around for example) and are they essentially the same games but in different settings with different characters?
    Have you played the Resident Evil DBG? It came out in the early days of Deck Building Games and was ahead of it's time I think with some of the mechanics it introduced (like having an upgradable character you play as). I still pull it out and play it occasionally.

    I am wondering will this one be a significant improvement compared to the 2 previous games. I did not try the previous ones but I saw that they are not really good. The company (Steamforged Games) seems like just wants to make easy quick money. It is pretty obvious, they are producing these Resident Evil games very often.. It's the same with Zombicide and CMON. These things are a no to me. However, if this one is an improvement compared to the previous 2 games, I might consider backing it because I really liked Resident evil back then. (Silent Hill was much much better though)

      @@fredericcourcy1915 For what its worth, I'm a huge Dark Souls fan as well, but I thought the board game by SFG was terrible and I really regret getting it. I personally liked RE2 so much, however, that it prompted me to get RE3 on Ebay and also back RE1. From what I can tell, their RE games keep getting better, and its likely RE1 will be their best one yet.
      That being said, I don't want to oversell the game either. Its on the lighter side, so if you only enjoy heavy games, then I think you'll be disappointed. On the plus side, it means the game plays really quick and doesn't feel like a slog (like DS). And I still have to make tough calls in regards to taking hits vs using ammo, just like in the video game.
      But again, that's all there is to it, really. Its not your brain burning Mage Knight, Spirit Island, Dungeon Alliance, etc. (which I also love).
      EDIT: Oh yeah, I just saw you say you were disappointed by RE2, I'm assuming you mean their campaign and/or components? If so, then I forgot to mention, that yes their components are just as bad in person as you might expect. Minis are very ok (solid step below CMON, maybe two steps). I'm sure you know RE2 tiles are plain awful. Art (subjective), to me, isn't great either. Components basically range from bad to serviceable, but unimpressive.
