Wacom Intuos S: The 5 Minute Review That Would Make You Fall In Love With It

  • (DISCLAIMER: This is not a sponsored video. I bought a Wacom tablet for my animation purposes. All opinions expressed in this review are solely my own.)
    First impression, the Wacom Intuos S is pretty good. Some may find it rather small and I guess for big guys its probably not the best choice
    but hey it all goes down to your hand techniques.
    Model: Wacom Intuos CTL-4100WL/K0-CX
    Couple of important pointers:
    ► The Clip Studio Paint Pro license tht comes with the bundle is only a 2-year license, not a lifetime license.
    ► Corel Painter Essentials & Corel AfterShot bundled software are only for 90-day trials, not lifetime license.
    ► The tablet cannot be used as a trackpad with your fingers.
    ► Beginner friendly, but as everything in life, perfect practice makes perfect.
    Hope this review helps you in your decision. My Wacom Intuos Review: It's Great!

    I went with the small one without BT, because I usually find that small things as latency and general disturbances BT can cause are just too annoying for me not to switch to a cable. It's nice they did the keys symmetrically instead of having them on the side like my Bamboo had(I'm a lefty and it often switched/bugged out between left handed and right handed mode). Generally really happy with this thing. Single-handedly motivated me to get back to art again.

    • @Wengsome
      @Wengsome  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's pretty accurate for most people I've talked to or worked with. The lag with the bluetooth is unbearable for them. I tried it a couple of times but since the cable isn't too annoying I usually use it cable mode too.
      The only problem is when I use Mac and I need the USB slot for something else, you know how Mac doesn't like built in USB slots and my dongle only has 1 USB, so I can't use the tablet at the same time. =(
      Happy to hear you're cool with this tablet too! :D

    I want to know how the specs of the One by Wacom and the Intuos S compare. The prices are almost the same and Intuos has button on the tablet, but what else?

    • @Wengsome
      @Wengsome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you meant the tablet One by Wacom, yes that model is very similar to Intuos S but 'One' doesn't have any buttons and does not have bluetooth.
      Another big disadvantage is 'One' has a very short cable, maybe near 1 meter long that might be ok for Laptops but definitely not good for desktop PC's.
      Other than the above mentioned, its not really a big difference in drawing experience compared to the Intuos S. However Intuos series comes with bigger models and real estate, 'One' only has small size tablets.
      All in all if you're just looking to keep the budget low, 'One' can do the job well - it's just lacking in the nit-picky stuff.

    I've got this tablet yesterday, but it works just horribly bad when connected via bluetooth. Everyone seems to have no problems with that, but on my device (MacBook Air M2), if not connected with USB, it just lags so much; what seems to be low is the polling rate?, that is the update frequency of the pointer position on-screen. One example could be that the circles drawn turn out to have sharp angles, or something like that. Support told me that the Wacom tablets require strong and very stable connection, which, well, I have no idea how to achieve? This may be some weird issue with M2's bluetooth, as when I'm trying to use the tablet when the bluetooth window is open (some bluetooth search is happening), the latency time increases to around 4 seconds, which is just insane. I should update the system as the Ventura is out and see if this helps, but I guess I will just change the tablet to the non-bluetooth version at the shop. I hate this so much.

    • @Wengsome
      @Wengsome  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi drevoksi. So sorry to hear that. I work on the Macbook Air M1, and I didn't have issues like yours. There is a slight delay sometimes yes but not to the extent of 4 seconds, just a noticeable latency lag.
      That being said the tablet does come with the wired connection as well, have you tried using that? In any case it really could be an issue with the bluetooth itself.

    • @drevoksi
      @drevoksi ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wengsome Yes, that's a bluetooth only thing. I would've thought that it is broken, but, having contacted support and looked through reddit, it seems like it's not. At this point, I'll just use this one, connected through cable, as going to the shop and asking for a refund/replacement may not be worth it. Having paid more for a bluetooth version is pretty infuriating.

    I like how this pen works but I don't like that there is no eraser although that's not an issue for me since I don't use one to start with

      Thanks for sharing. If the pricing isn't an issue then yes it's always the case of you get what you're paying for. I personally have never used the Intuos M but one things for sure- that extra real estate for you to draw or write on is absolutely wonderful. Sometimes my hand slips off the small surface because I'm used to drawing on the iPad too.
      There's really no guarantee stuff breaks down in a few months, but if it can last up to two years, I guess I'd be fine with that!

    Is this needs screen protector to avoid scratches??

    • @Wengsome
      @Wengsome  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a Intuos model so it doesn’t come with a screen. As far as I know you would not need any protector on the surface because you want that smooth natural drawing texture.
      The one with a screen would be the Wacom Cintiq, but that doesn’t require a screen protector also. They have a pretty durable glass surface that doesn’t require any protectors as far as I know of.
      Hope that helps!

    • @Wengsome
      @Wengsome  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Intuos Pro is a different where they come built with texture sheets. So the surface can be replaced if its worn out. CTL4100 doesn't have that so you don't get to replace the surface. I guess your concern is valid but it should last a pretty good few years of drawing to be worn out.

    I had an intous s, that I replaced just the other day. I tried for the last 8 years to get used to it and I just couldn't. It's way too small for me. How anyone can draw on this size is a mystery to me. Do you have to sell your soul for that skill or something? I really thought digital art just wasn't for me, but with my new 20'' drawing display I actually enjoy working digitally.

    • @Wengsome
      @Wengsome  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That actually makes sense. When I first got it I was struggling, really struggling with the small size and limited real estate to draw. My palm would always fall off the tablet and it was so frustrating. I guess I'd have to chalk it down to "We get what we pay for" and not really selling my soul to perfect the skill of drawing on such a small space lol.
      Screen tablets are still my favourite but again, Intuos S to me is something handy to draw on whenever I'm on the move. It's not something you want to draw for hours and hours on.
      Happy to hear you've got something you like!

      @@Wengsome I am primarily a traditional artist, so when I am on the go I just use my sketchbook. If I really had to, I could maybe have made the small tablet work, but it slowed down my work flow to a point where it just wasn’t worth it. As mentioned, I don't need the portability of small tablets.
      And I was not over exagerating with the 8 years btw. I got my wacom in 2015 or 2016. Every few month I would bust it out and really buckle down and practice for weeks untill I reached the point of pure frustration and my skill never improved. It's probably a case of no medium works for every artist. 🤷‍♂️ And while it is true that better equipment wont magically improve your drawing skills, sometimes it's worth trying something different.

    • @Wengsome
      @Wengsome  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@melinnamba I myself still prefer screen tablets because of the eye and hand coordination. My biggest struggle wasn't really due to the small real estate but the disconnection between the eye and hand while drawing lol.
      I tried putting the intuos in front of me below the laptop's mouse trackpad so it's somewhat closer to my viewpoint but that didn't help too much either. Ended up settling for completing a decent artwork in probably double the time and lesser the quality.
      Totally understand the frustration.

    • @melinnamba
      @melinnamba 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Wengsome that's the funny thing with my experience. Everyone talks about how the hand eye coordination is difficult to learn. But that's not something I ever struggled with. My issue really was mostly the size. But since all the advice for drawing on pen tablets is geared towards people who struggle with hand eye coordination, my experience is probably not very common.

      Yes it’s a good tablet for starting out. If it fits your budget, the wireless Bluetooth model is more convenient if you’re always on the go.
      Takes a little bit time to get used to but once you do it’s great.
      One good tip is placing it in front of you while you draw instead of on the right side.
