Ye. Most likely after we defeat the Witness, there will appear another antagonist which kills our Guardian. Which will pave the way for Destiny 3 to start with a new character

With our Ghost in his current condition, it is very possible we could experience our final death. But since we make our own fate we can circumvent it.

Well, saint says something along the line of, “if you’re still out there, take the sword, kill what killed you, and return to us.” Maybe the traveler took this sword from the timeline we died, and gave it to us to help us. To prevent us from dying like we did in that timeline??

@@BO2ZombieX iirc we didn't have swords in d2 at that time we got bastion right? my guess is the story was supposed to give us the sword but bungie hadn't implemented the coding in time and switched it to bastion as a bandaid. bastions lore doesn't fit as our favorite weapon, and the storyline/mission is talking about the sword and to take the sword from the grave that is being used to "mark the grave" bastion in no was was marking the grave, the sword was.
really, really sad lost opportunity there.

So,to be clear. The Traveller was asking for help a long time ago,thats why it "called" on us,savathun ect,. And we didnt realised how much it needed our help untill now?
This story is going deep and i applaud for those writers involved in this saga.
I think we always knew thst the traveler needed help, but the main thing stopping anyone from actually knowing enough to start acting is the fact that the Last City no longer has a Speaker.
Sure we get vague feelings and little whispers from the traveler every now and then, but the Speakers entire role was that they had dreams that allowed the traveler to essentially directly communicate (though through symbolism and vague visions) it's intentions and needs to a person.
Without a speaker nobody was really able to understand just how dire the situation was, and now that everyone inside the heart can hear the travelers literal screams of agony, it's a lot more real.

One of the coolest things I’ve seen with this sword is even the very first roll you get is random. My buddy got his with Wolfpack Rounds while I got one with Gathering Light. It truly is unique to you even the first time you get it.
I got a wave frame with Polaris perk so not that cool unfortunately

My theory is, going off of the dialogue in the memorial scene, is that the witness survived after killing our guardian in that timeline. with that being said, we have a lot of things to do after this raid. entire stories, and whatever. given what has been said, how this is the first timeline where we seem to have a chance, maybe this is the one timeline where we're still alive.
thing about our guardian, is that we only lose if we're dead. if we're still standing, we'll keep fighting.
I wanna say considering we recently got it and it was called "our favorite weapon" maybe it's something in the next part of the game.

back in d1 "the end" was vog, before damage phase a message appeared in the right "guardians make their own fate" final boss in raid will be the witness, they will have a "final stand" phase, this triggers when we get him to that point (like oryx dud), he kills us or ghost, does something that we shouldnt be able to recover from but a message appears in the bottom left "guardians make their own fate" we revover, get supercharged get restocked. and we kill it

I freaked out when I saw the sword. That grave always been on my mind, and when I saw that sword it instantly clicked. I wish I was a world first raider, I want to experience the end so bad :(
what do you mean by wishing to be first world raider? they will get access to destiny 2 end first? that was the prize?
I really wished we could just use both the aegis and the sword of traveler at the same time it would have been so cool.

Counter question; will I live If I don't just have one, but instead 100? I've gotten around 30. But if I need to dismantle one to live I'm good bc I've dismantled 8 so far.
If in this time line you were to dismantle maybe another you were to randomly receive that exact same roll in another timeline :) paracuasal and all that

Our Ghost is at death's door one more mental attack from the Witness, and KABOOM.
And now we have the sword from our grave. It all leads to this.

The issue is there's been several changes since that happened. We've obtained darkness and did not become corrupted by it. Savathun became a guardian and we've made friends with both the cabal and eliksni. The stranger and her sister aren't trying to kill each other, we where never Saints Mentor but we are he's friend etc etc.That fate has been changed dramatically so all in all it's hard to say if that would come to pass (also the Vex can not anticipate a guardian therefore that death is not 100% guaranteed.)
The corridors of time were when past, present, and future fold into a linear space of possible timelines. The corridors were unstable but vex simulations are always being calculated. Also regarding mentor saint looked up to us a mentor when he first saw us and strived to be like us. One more attack and we become mortal. Even if we don’t die our ghost has one foot in the grave. He’s barely holding on for the final battle
@keithpierce5686 Saint worded it incorrectly. Osiris even said in that season that Saint was inspired by us, not trained. Meaning that's what he means by it. And what do that Vex have to do with this? We're facing the Witness. The Witness is what killed us. And it was never said in the funeral if we welded Darkness or not. So you can't say it was this. And also it was only a theory that this grave was from the dark future. This could have been from the future We're at now. And it was never said if the Cabal or the Eliksni we're there or not. There's a lot that disproves everything you just said. It can still happen. Bungie hasn't done a big recon like this since they changed the Darkness to the Witness. Or maybe they did and I'm just forgetting it.
@@dropkick3024idk who pissed in your cereal but you need to calm down big guy. what we see at our grave has not been disproven. given the whole "guardians make their own fate" tagline the devs have been feeding us the sword is likely a red herring making us think we'll die. its very clear the sword is supposed to be the one on the grave. bungie intentionally used this design.
This exotic does not appear in collections. I noticed this when I could not see it in my recently collected list.

Mayhap the sword is present in all timelines, and we receive it in many different ways that don't involve our final death.

Aint nobody going to kill the Guardian, their special skill is dodging anyrhing the universe throws at us.
Sure we saw the vision of our casket, but we also saw visions of lots of things that never came to pass in OUR timestream.
Exactly, we saw that coffin as ONE of MANY possibilities that could or could've happened. It does not mean this is our guaranteed fate. I think it would be pretty cool to end destiny 2 with our guardians death and pick up destiny 3 with a new character that has to live up to the legend of our D2 character.
When I saw it and remembered saint talking about us I started thinking yo do we “die” in the raid
Now coming back a couple days later I played the story again and it talks a lot about the afterlife and ghosts so I’m thinking it might happen

I think it *might* be forged from memory of that sword just like everything else in the Pale Heart. This may account for the minor design changes and why it can be rolled with so many different perks. We never saw what the sword did, just that it was important enough we were buried with it. When we needed it, the traveler acted to make that memory real. If this is the case, that could make it another causal-loop weapon like Perfect Paradox, just also directly infused with light from the traveler and therefore far more powerful.
I remember that long ago, wow finally I get to see this sword to this day, it been a long long time
The guardian about to pull a kratos moment and come back from the dead sword in hand, probably saying guardians make their own fate and smack the witness.

I think the random rolls and intrinsics are a reference to the "Making your own fate."
I wish all the characters were actually there at that ceremony, it feels so ingenious on comms.

I want to see our guardian talk with the traveler in the future.
I get the feeling that we die at the end and when Destiny 3 is finally announced we will be creating a new guardian with new classes to pick up the torch and fight a new enemy left behind by the witness or whoever he is supposed to witness. His name makes me think he is just the beginning of hell to come.
According to a reputable leaker. bungie is doing away with classes. The leaker in question is the same one who predicted prismatic.

It is similar, yes, but not exactly the same. As you see on the tomb, the tomb has a sword, and a ghost, but they are not one. The sword we have now has the ghost fused to the hilt. It is likely an embodiment of our will, rather than any kind of omen.
Saint did say that the sword shattered in the final confrontation, so maybe the one on the tomb is a somewhat restored one
I hope that this sword comes with 6+ skins. I want to color it, style it after stasis or strand, and make it my own.

Interesting, no one mentioned this sword was the one on our grave. Good pick up. Went over my head.
The sword we pick up in the Iconoclasm mission seems to me to be quite similar to the Ergo Sum exotic sword, right down to the ghost on the pommel, with the only difference being that the hilt and blade of the mission sword appear to be more 'complete' (ie closer to that of a typical sword).
I don't know what this means, but I wonder if perhaps Bungie is going to give it a catalyst and actually make that catalyst change the appearance of the weapon.

Something funny happened in my run of the final shape where Crow actually killed me when i was going to the center and i thankfully had some teammates but i see it as the crow getting some last second revenge on me for killing him in forsaken
I remember something in the campaign saying that the stuff in the pale heart are manifestation from us, the witness and the traveler via memories? (Could be wrong)
But if it's true then we could've gotten the sword via manifestation from remembering the mission where we saw our grave. (Which is why it seemingly comes from nowhere)
My theory is since the corridors of time allows you to visit separate timelines, you probably visited a timeline where you died fighting the witness. Then again, we have no clue of this timeline was ours or not

Its not a generic sword at all it has its own exotic Properties
I thought that sword was just the sword and my ghost was just there placed with it. I didn't think the ghost was a part of the actual sword lol.
we still have 3 episodes of content left and im not sure how this sword fits in either its small easter egg(definitely not), we die with the sword in the raid but resurrect for the next two episodes of content or we die at the end of the episodes
i think that after boss fight i think we actually might see our guardian in CGI with all the characters we pick up that sword and our guardian says this ends here jumps at the witness and a massive flash and scram happens the witness is dead and our guardian dead then we have a massive funeral scenes at the tower or maybe were the boss even took place and even with our sword on the grave everyone lifts up a candle and then the tillite pop up destiny 2
Knowing Bungie at this point, it probably won't mean what we might think it might lead to.
The swords blade still has the same shape as the original d1 swords except the crystal is now part of the blade.
I feel its important to call back on how our ghost says cayde might be able to share the light my guess, our ghost dies and cayde helps us to finish the job
I want the sword from the fight against the witness that thing is cool looking.

It's extremely similar but there is some slight differences in the design.
The sword on our guardian's grave kinda looks like a broken raze lighter or void drinker. The crystal is gone, of course, but I can't be the only one to see it

When seeing out own Grave back in the Corridors of Time in Season of Dawn I thought it was just a prediction and not concrete. For like in the Vault of Glass and shattering Atheon, Guardians make their own fate.

Idk call me hopeful but I think since saint 14 is like “unless it is you you’ve preformed miracles before” it means we won’t die. Like since we saw it we avoid it type thing. By getting bastion and seeing our grave and now getting our sword it somehow saves us. Especially because this is the first timeline we have existed to Elsie (exo stranger). So I don’t think it means we die. I think it is the opposite. I hope so at least.

Saint 14 called the sword one of our favourites, we've only just got the sword for the first time, nowhere near enough time to be a favourite yet
If you look closely at the original sword, the ghost doesn't seem to be attached to the pommel, and the unique shape of the blade seems to be due to the fact that it was shattered, as Saint says. The blade is in pieces and laid together. Ergo Sum, on the other hand, looks like it's been fused back together from those fragments into a new form. The prompt when you claim Ergo Sum, "make your fate," paired with Cayde's line "No one makes my fate but me," could imply that we are rejecting that fate that was foreshadowed back in Season of Dawn. Micah-10 comments that perhaps the Traveler deals more in possibilities than certainty. That could be why there are so many alternate versions of the same sword. Different possibilities, alternate paths and futures, but we are the only ones who can decide which one is right.

Would've been quite weird for it to be our favorite weapon, when we only received it a couple days before we died. I'm sure the guardian's funeral is very far away, if it happens at all.
Even though its a throw back to SoD, at its core its a Vex simulation and timeline. As of TFS in our current timeline with Ellise not jumping through another timeline, and a certain hunter giving up his life helped have defy the Vex prediction. SoD grave is probably what will happen if we failed or if any of the allies fall.
In line with the lore, some fans already know whats coming next in the "episodes expansion", we need to deal with the Vex. Been noticing in the battles the Taken even though shattered now have glowing eyes which has been more pronounced perhaps the Vex learned something.

Ok Evaze i have a theory for you and byf. What if the first time we use the sword is in the raid lore wise and in the battle we gave our final breath after killing the witness but during one of the seasons in the past may have changed our fate. I don't mean something major maybe something so small we as players and lore enthusiasts never noticed but bungie did and used it for now
Maybe we alter the timeline when we consume the darkness? 🤔
My thought, It's because Bungie is SLOWLY having us come to realize "our" guardian will die ("no longer be played") as they introduce Destiny 3. Effectively we will be playing as a "new" generation of guardians in Destiny 3 dealing with actions of the previous generation of Guardians (us right now).
Better not be the case.

Ergo sum is translated into ‘therefore I am’. Rene Descartes, a famous philosopher, had a philosophy that doubting one’s existence means they are real. The full saying is cogito ergo sum. “I think, therefore I am”. Which is an a priori conclusion, or acquired independently of experience. Damn, I hated philosophy but I guess there are some tidbits that are interesting.
Maybe our ghosts is dying (and as seen in the trailer we fall all the way down to the prismatic field where we got prismatic) and since cayde is currently no guardian as our ghosts mentioned he is pure light (like our ghosts) maybe the traveler will turn him into our new ghost and he will revive us

Isn’t most of the lore about alternate timelines? And wasn’t that future we saw somehow made by the Vex? It’s possible it may never come to happen for our timeline.

My friend I've been playing destiny with for the last 10 years brought up a solid theory. We get the "episodes" now, and those lead us to our death. Destiny 2 ends with us dying, then drop destiny 3, the game starts after some time skip, no more separate subclasses just a different variation of the transcendent powers. Thus, it starts our next 10 year H addiction.

The part I find most interesting about the sword is its name. It the last half of the Latin phrase cognito, ergo sum. Which translates to I think, therefore I am. With paracausality being a huge part of destiny lore I think the swords name being therefore I am is some kind of clever word play and hidden meaning

It is supposed to call to mind the entire adventure from the very beginning. It means to prove that we exist(ed).
Or it could be merely another version of us that died during the final battle while the version we play survives.
