Now this is food for thought. I thought I was going to be locked into buying a few mini doge miners, but this looks like a very viable solution. Now to find an L3+ miner that people aren't asking an arm and a leg for up here in Canada!
Rabid Mining wow is this real 👍 man I need them fans, truly thanks for putting this together.. can’t wait to get mine and BTW I got me another L3 unit, this one is new but will change the fan and it’s a L3+ vs the L3++ I already have .. One other thing I noticed in your video is your HW errors is very very high of some of your hash boards, high errors normally is a sign that the board will go soon keep a close eye on that.

I followed this advice and it made a huge difference. The only thing was switching out the power supply it came with and this thing totally went silent.

Another trick I've learned with the L3's is to flip the fans opposite of the way they come from the factory. Instead of dragging warm air over the end where the chips are, you're bringing the fresh cool air to them first and then out the other end. Was able to drop temps by 10-15 degrees C on all of mine by doing this.

@@RabidMining Yeah man, don't just take my word for it, try it out and see. I learned it from a guy I bought one of my first ones from who ran an electronics repair shop. I was skeptical at first but tried it out with one and once I saw the result I did it on every other one I've gotten since. All running super cool now. 😎

You used the original screws? They are deeper in the unit since the fan isn't as thick...guess no issues?

Awesome video. The video when you are comparing the mini doge and the L3+. When I purchased my three mini doge I paid $2100 for them, while the old L3+ prices had ballooned to $3500, so I ended up with 3 mini doge. Your video is accurate, but only in our current market.

You could put an in-line attenuator on the 6000 RPMs and bring them down to 4000 or so
Please my brother Rabid, don't put bad ideas in the head of your audience, there are young folks watching your videos, 6000 RPM fans are no joke, they could literally cut your fingers without a single regret :p

Sounds great literally. I want to buy a couple of L3+ so I'll try reversing the air flow then buy quieter fans. I've also wondered if the box was bigger then we could use taller heat sinks with better fans.
possibly if you can get someone to custom make a box for 140mm
@@RabidMining I want to use a Octomine box or whatever is on sale at ebay, they have some boxes for $150 or so and I'll put quieter fans on both sides and test with the lid off and on to see which produces lower temps. Remove the boards and they get more air around them in a flow thru box worked for someone on YT with Z9 mini's and L3's.
I think an old gun locker with enough fans could work too. The Jasminer company YT shows a similar cabinet, he does it to reduce noise way down & they run cool. So I'll put my mad skillz to work.

The PSU I received with mine is super loud. Swapping that out for a Dell 1200w server PSU helped a ton too. Way quieter.

If you double the fans up behind each other you double the pass through airflow . You need longer bolts though 😅
It would be interesting to know what power you are pulling before and after as well. You may be running more efficiently and we all know electricity is the main contributor to profits.

ppc 3000's rock! Keep in mind you also has the fan speed @ 43%. Instead of disabling you could lock the % to 100 and get the temps back down I think.
ya think the 43% is based on the 6000 rpm fans it normally would use as 43% is already sitting at 2860 rpm on 3000 rpm fans.
Good idea, hopefully they keep it cool during the summer. If these struggle after testing try the Phanteks T30 fans, I use them in my builds to keep everything nice and cool

I'm currently getting everything to setup my first S9 (spec mining) and this will definitely help hide my unapproved purchase from the wife. 😉 Waiting on power supply now and running new electrical to the mining tent. Found a person on eBay selling them for $85 new still in sealed box. Hovering over Buy button constantly (I have a problem 😅).
Did you buy the S9? If so what spec mining are you doing. I bought one with Braiins OS and it can underclock it to make it more efficient
@@julioreyes6024 I did and I ended up buying a few more. Whoops! LOL! I'm currently mining MVC. I have mine on HiveOS underclocked to 8.8T at 680w. With the underclocks there really isn't a need to swap out the fans since it's pretty quiet.
@@MangledRemainz I agree, the majority of thr noise came from this damn PSU. Ill set up mine as well this week to start underclocking and mining Alt coins based off ATHs.

I’ve had quite the collection of those fans 120 and 140, I had 20 at one point, sold off the 120s recently tho, might try this with the 140s on a reducer

@@RabidMining on that note I’ll make the swap and show my temp. I’ve got my L3+ on the 550mh 720 watts, i like the little extra I get from it vs the lowest oc. Also in case anybody wondering why. My L3+ has 6 bad asic chips on one board. The way they work is the L3 will give more power to the rest of the good chips on that board to make the hashrate difference. So me personally was less efficient on the lowest oc setting vs what the actual wattage at the wall was. Everyone’s situation is different and me personally the next oc setting setting was using less power for the amount of ltc and doge I was receiving if that makes any sense. Keep it up and I’ll update you on my situation and swapping the fans out to 140s.

This will only work in a cold environment Southern California pretty hot on the summer time and 3000 rpm not good enough to keep on low temp that will not over heat.
Unless keep it in a Airconditioned room my issue is my DIY solar system on my backyard and only accessible outside. Anyway my question can I increase the speed of Noctua
NF-F12 to make it higher rpm maybe 5000 to 6000 rpm then it will noisy again. Any comment appreciated Thanks.

Seems the intake is the stronger one and out take is a bit slower on the default programming with the fan co controller
How do i install hive onto my antminer?
If there is a way to silence HP and Delta power supplies I'd be interested. They are OK most of the time but when we have weeks of heatwave conditions here, no amount of additional airflow in my mining garage will stop them sounding like a bunch of ASICs.

Hey Rabid, I know this video is old but will this work on other bitmain ASICS? I just bought a t15 and it seems like the fans are the same diameter as the l3++ and frankly the s9 and other btc miners

I’m having a fan(3) error on a L7, which fan would that be and how do we tell it to ignore an fan sensor using the ip dashboard? (Without hive is)
Not sure don't have a L7 do not sure the order they are in no numbers on the control board fan ports? Try unplugging each one or move them around to see
I tried this with some fans I got. And the screws from the oem fans are wayyy to long. When I mount the new fans the screws touch/almost touch the pcb boards. Isn't that bad?
Probably but guess as long as it's not touching lol have any spacers or something or shorter screws

If you add a 140 to 120mm adapter and use the 140mm version of the noctua, it will move way more air and keep the boatds cooler.
