The way to tell Phillipe according to Bobby is that he’s the one bringing the songs home at the end. He’s singing lead here but he did not on the hit single.
The Spinners spent nearly the entire 1960s as Motown’s “forgotten” group, never quite receiving the attention of the label’s other major acts, until Henry Fambrough, Billy Henderson, Bobby Smith, Pervis Jackson and G.C. Cameron received a gift from their friend Stevie Wonder in the form of the song that became their breakout hit, 1970’s “It’s a Shame.” Ironically, by the time the song topped charts around the world, The Spinners’ contract with Motown was over, and their good friend, Aretha Franklin, helped them to land at the rising Atlantic music label.
You’re not lying! Thank you for saying this. I’m from Michigan, and I always thought they were a class act and should be rated right up there with the all-time best musicians
The original version of It's A Shame had G.C. Cameron singing lead; not Phillippe. G.C Cameron also sung lead on "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye to Yesterday."
True. But "It's A Shame" was written by Stevie Wonder. That's what I mean by "Stevie's touch." I just indicated that Phillipe's performance of it was great.
Phillipe and Henry did an incredible job on the lead that G.C. originally handled himself. On the other hand......G.C. left the group BEFORE the gigantic success that The Spinners had on Atlantic. He must be a very philosophical man, at least I hope he is.
See how men dressed and carried themselves back then..these dude had more number 1 hits on Motown than anyone except the Jackson's just think about all of the great acts of Motown and that will tell you how good these guys were.
Thom Bell started writing for them ...was a big boost in their career. Great songs make The Difference for sure. This is kind of group Thom Bell tried to get Russell Thompkins Jr to switch and have with new stage steppers ....but he would not leave his friends....so Thom left them and took up the Spinners as a new project. Stylistics new writers failed them and they turned to touring overseas with old hits Bell & Creed had written .
The one on the left end with the long mustache; as you look at the screen, who sings a part; has the most lovable smile , I watch him in all the videos, he smiled all the time, he looked nice, I loved the whole group.
Even if the voices weren't that amazing - and they are A-MA-ZING - just to watch their moves is sheer bliss. I wish a band would come along today that would do this kind of thing.
Emma Wilson @ watch the Chicago group called " the Voices" they perform in casinos and nightclubs...they tour. They do a " Spinners" tribute along with other tributes and original songs. They have a lead singer/ falsetto named Isacc that is really great. They are on youtube. Don Hamilton bass singer is manager. Find them and enjoy a " group like this today". Also Russell Thompkins Jr and New Stylistics...are still performing. Russell lead singer of Stylistics for 34 years and has had his own group for 20 years Still singing at 70 yrs old.. 🎶💫🎶
Cameron did both lead parts. He was the man of many voices. When I start listening to the Spinners I can't stop! Sadie, Love Don't Love Nobody, It's a Shame, etc. I love it all!
wow this brings me beautiful memories,I'm from peru but really love this music, thank you very much for been part of my life. Descansa en paz Bobbie Smith
Reminds me of the music my dad would play on Saturday mornings...I just knew it was time to clean...even my junk stash under the bed and in my closet!! Lol#sweetmemoriesripdad#
The Spinners were at the height of their success all the songs the sang in 1976 was a sure hit. Phillip and Bobby were at the top of their profession as (Lead Singers).
The more i watch these vid; the more i learn ,"so it was Henry who sang falsetto on this music" versatile singer.Rev;Wynne asusual add some of his concoctions on this ultimate Motown hit.
Their only Motown hit. It's A Shame Motown didn't make them a priority. Their next label almost made the same mistake before the great Thom Bell got ahold of them.
its ashame that you cant find any commercial dvds of the spinners anywhere with philippe wynne . what are they waiting for all of them to die before they release some? no books no dvds . they deserve some sort of recognition and tribute.
Outrageously smooth choreography! And look and listen to silky smooth baritone, Henry Fambrough, take on G.C. Cameron's falsetto vocals on this golden oldie! They were so-o-o good yet suffered the same defections and internal strife that plagued so many of the fabulous vocal groups in the r&b, rock 'n roll and Soul genres.
This is fun to watch live, with the dance moves and all. In the studio version Wynne PUNCHES the "got to be a shame" lyrics (later in the tune) much harder, and that really makes the song. Still, something magical about the live version too, thanks!
+rftulie Phillipe didn't sing on the studio version, that was G.C. Cameron. Phillipe does a good job, but I agree it's missing that punch since he's so effortless in that high range.
Thanks for the info. I was actually referring to the portion of the song when Wynne comes back to the verse and sings the lyrics, first in head voice and then transitions up an octave and sings it the second time in his falsetto. All of these men were incredible vocalists in their own right. I still think that the Spinners were the classiest and most gifted of ALL of the male groups of their era.
“I’m Phillipe “Soul” Wynne from Cincinnati, Ohia. I’m 6 foot tall, 202 pounds of man!!”
Best line ever.
Philippe Wynne was the most underrated singer of his generation..very unique voice!!
On that alone, they should be in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
💯🎯💕
If he's the falsetto, YES!
@@hot88s23 He's not. He's the one on the far right. But incredible range and unique sound nonetheless.
The way to tell Phillipe according to Bobby is that he’s the one bringing the songs home at the end. He’s singing lead here but he did not on the hit single.
These brothers are legendary!!! Should be in the hall of fame, easily!!!
It'd be a shame if they're ever not so honored, so appreciated! Thank you, everyone here for your contributions, all the positivity!
Like 30 years ago
Yes ur so write the greatest
So glad they finally were inducted last year...2023! Well overdue!

And give credit to Philly's Thom Bell who really changed things for them...
HOW LUCKY could you be to see those fellas Live? Wow.
Left To Right: Henry, Billy, Bobbie, Pervis, & Philippe...All Deceased Except Henry. RIP My Men. U Left Us With Amazing Music.
It’s a shame how soul music has declined from this era to the current time. I would gladly travel back in time if it were possible.
Sandra, you have taste in good music....so do i, and I'm not black, but I love, love old 60s Motown!God bless you Sandra!
Sandra, you are so right. When I die I wanta come back and see these guys live, with that fantastic Phillipe wynne singing to me!!
I know! I’m 25 and I wish I would live my adulthood in this era where music sound so much better then the crap that is out now😢
You got that right, sister!
MIe would of loved to travel back in time for the music and the stars😊
I love how Philippe Wynne has so much swag when introducing himself.
+Trcls Right. He's a REAL MAN!! Very sexy and virile. TRULY ATTRACTIVE. Oh for the good ol' days> Sigh.
Trcls b
The Spinners will be the featured act in heaven, singing this song with this band. Wow.
You’re not lying! Thank you for saying this.
I’m from Michigan, and I always thought they were a class act and should be rated right up there with the all-time best musicians
Sadly most of the original line up has passed, But they were, are and always will be the Mighty Spinners !!!
Philippe Wynne had a wonderful voice.. his voice will never be forgotten.. R.I.P sir, thanks for sharing your gift from God..
He was underrated
I'm over 60 y.o., and I sure miss Good Music, like the spinners....they were awesome!!
Phillipe Wynne had beautiful voice R.IP
It's ashame the 60s 70s 80s and 90s are gone. 🍁 🌾
Time moves forward. Weird.
One of my favorite groups...love them...only one left....RIP "Detroit Spinners"
Amen🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Why does this music make me so happy!!! Maybe because I'm 61!
I’m 20 and it fills me with joy. It must be that the music is undeniably brilliant
This is when groups would put on a SHOW. Days long gone. R.I.P. Bobby Smith
I love them! "Cincinatti Ohiyah!"
I love the original "It's A Shame" with Stevie Wonder's touch and I love this version with Phillippe's vocals! He was the voice of the Spinners!
Yes; Stevie Wonder wrote a lot of songs for so many others and Phillipe could sing anything.
Phillipe and Henry did an incredible job on the lead that G.C. originally handled himself. On the other hand......G.C. left the group BEFORE the gigantic success that The Spinners had on Atlantic. He must be a very philosophical man, at least I hope he is.
Stevie played drums and keyboard on this one as well
Phillipe Wyinne 'what a voice' lovely tone exquisite !
Wow, Henry, hitting those high notes!!! Great job, both Henry and Philippe on doing G.C.'s lead.
Moved to Cincinnati 3 years ago. I work with one of Philippe Wynne's aunts, that lady can sing!!
Which Aunt? They Are My Cousins
So sorry to hear that Bobbie Smith has died. Your voice will not soon be forgotten!
IT'S A SHAME MUSIC ISN'T LIKE THIS ANYMORE!
HENRY'S Falsetto! WOW!
Wow! Absolutely didn't miss a best - the phenomenal PHILIPPE WYNNE stepped up to the mic and sang G.C. Cameron's lines just as good - if not better!!!
Phillippe and GC were cousins.
This was posted 11 years ago.... And video was filmed 45 years ago. And it is still a fresh, sharp, soulful, beautiful thing.
💙💜 🎶💜💙
They don't have groups like this anymore
Dale Hindsman It's a shame they don't.
+Dale Hindsman No they don't groups like the Spinners, O'Jays, Four Tops, Temptations, etc..
You know it.
sgs126 What are you smoking?!
I love Philippes voice. The way he accentuates his words when he hits high notes.
See how men dressed and carried themselves back then..these dude had more number 1 hits on Motown than anyone except the Jackson's just think about all of the great acts of Motown and that will tell you how good these guys were.
Midwest had the game on lock back in the day!
My favorite song by "The Spinners".. Takes me back to my childhood care-free days.
Mine too!
Out of all the dancing vocal groups, the Pips, the Temps, -the Spinners had 'em all....
yhey are wonderful and should be in the hall of fame - its a shame they are not
these guys were the best !
Thom Bell started writing for them ...was a big boost in their career. Great songs make The Difference for sure. Nice to hear real music for once!

My uncle was Pervis Jackson I met him when i was really young but i always watch videos of him and my grandma safe to say singing runs in my family
My God, this is wonderful.
That is the greatest thing i've ever watched and listened to.
+mark y Watch Philippe singing Sadie in this same performance. Literally my favorite soul performance of all time.
Love how Phillipe effortlessly slips into his falsetto at approximately 2:35. That dude was born to sing. God bless his soul.
This is still a #1 jam of mine. LOVE LOVE LOVE
Totally Awesome Version of IT'S ASHAME...Unbelievable.Love&Peace
Hall of Fame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The one on the left end with the long mustache; as you look at the screen, who sings a part; has the most lovable smile , I watch him in all the videos, he smiled all the time, he looked nice, I loved the whole group.
they can sing and their steps are tight, they are beautiful to watch ..RIParadise Bobby Smith..you my hero dog..
Even if the voices weren't that amazing - and they are A-MA-ZING - just to watch their moves is sheer bliss. I wish a band would come along today that would do this kind of thing.

I'm grinning from ear to ear! Thanks so much for sharing this gem with us all!
Cameron did both lead parts. He was the man of many voices.
When I start listening to the Spinners I can't stop! Sadie, Love Don't Love Nobody, It's a Shame, etc. I love it all!
He was the man of many voices and he was also the man who left the group prior to its huge run of hits on Atlantic. SMH
Make sure you all vote for the Spinners DAILY from now through Friday, April 28th so that they get inducted into the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
wow this brings me beautiful memories,I'm from peru but really love this music, thank you very much for been part of my life. Descansa en paz Bobbie Smith

Timeless 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😊
The Spinners were at the height of their success all the songs the sang in 1976 was a sure hit. Phillip and Bobby were at the top of their profession as (Lead Singers).
What a class act, 4.0 , very becoming, bless you guys !

Wynn made the group. Loved his voice. I was at this concert at the Mill Run theater in Niles. It was fantastic
This song is still jamming 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰.
Phillipe... Wow...
But all needed for the package.
What an amazing group
The more i watch these vid; the more i learn ,"so it was Henry who sang falsetto on this music" versatile singer.Rev;Wynne asusual add some of his concoctions on this ultimate Motown hit.
FANTASTIC job on this with Philippe and Henry in place of G.C. Cameron! I'm gonna look for an HD quality version of this performance.
I LOVE this band leader! He's the best and takes care of singers performing.
We had real entertainers back in the day.
Fly moves.....amooth grooves....class act...Timeless.....
I love Philippe's sound. I can't listen to another voice on the songs he sung.
those moves!
live and cool
Legends!!
Their only Motown hit. It's A Shame Motown didn't make them a priority. Their next label almost made the same mistake before the great Thom Bell got ahold of them.
Great performance from a great group!. I always loved how artists presented themselves back then - choreography, outfits and raw talent.
its ashame that you cant find any commercial dvds of the spinners anywhere with philippe wynne . what are they waiting for all of them to die before they release some? no books no dvds . they deserve some sort of recognition and tribute.
"I'M 6 FOOT, AND 202 POUNDS O' MAN" y'all better to listen to Filippe' Soul Wynne!
ye !!!
Tony Nolan Yes, lawd!!
Yes! Singing for the blood!
Al D'Antonio Henry is truly talented. He transitioned from baritone to falsetto smoothly in the same song, sounding great.
the past is often not brilliant - but these musicians are brilliant; glad i heard them back then too.
IRONY...Phillipe doing such a good job on lead vocals on a Spinners hit which was originally sung for the Spinners by his cousin, G.C. Cameron.
Awesome
Great song, and stylin' outfits!
Can we get some GROUPS back out here please??? I'm sick of solo artists...dang
Cool smooth music😊
whoever made the guitar melody for this song is a genius.
+VADY2B Let me give you a history on this song the genius that did the music on the horns among others was non other than Stevie Wonder yes that one
+BISHOP C Also, from what I understand Stevie also played the drums for the track on the recording. That is according to an interview with Henry.
Stevie Wonder Of course. The only surviving musical genius left
singing ability is genetic, mostin that family can probably sing exceptionally well,he was amazing
YES LORD!! THANKS! 🙏♥️
He was so sosososososos bless
thanks. a lot just hearing. in seeing that year in made me feel great
I downloaded this to my phone and I love it.
wow, what an awesome version of this song, love it.
RIP BOBBIE.
This is fun to watch live, with the dance moves and all. In the studio version Wynne PUNCHES the "got to be a shame" lyrics (later in the tune) much harder, and that really makes the song. Still, something magical about the live version too, thanks!

I love the steppin!!!!!!
