Can we just appreciate Robert Englund's performance in this movie? He had to play a fictional version of himself, a fictional version of himself playing a parody of Freddy Krueger, and a demon manifested as a darker version of Freddy Krueger.
The Idea of Rex actually being something Freddy has to get past to get to the child is an interesting concept. Like just picture Freddy walking around doing his thing, on his way to some kids dreams, and what does he find? A Fucking Tyrannosaurus standing guard, probably wearing a Leather jacket or something.
It's a common fan theory that Freddy only went after teenagers and never attacked children in dreams because while they're easier to scare the strength of children's imaginations in the dream world are too powerful even for him.
I've spent literally my entire holidays being introduced to James and binge watching everything for days. Three days into the new year and I feel like I'm still barely scratching the surface. I am so happy right now.
THIS is a worthy follow-up to where the 1984 film left off. It's basically a meta-film that isn't in direct continuity with the previous sequels. Having Freddy as some entity stalking and haunting the cast and crew responsible for his films is clever writing! Wes Craven really pulled out a winner with Freddy twice while in the director's chair. As Wes once said about sequels, it can get too familiar to people that it's watered down to make an easier sell. And then succeeded with another horror hit in 1996 called, "Scream." Brilliance in a horror filmmaking legend.
"Every kid knows Freddy, He's like Santa Claus or King Kong" is actually pretty true tbh, I remember growing up and there wasn't a single person who really didn't know who he was in some way. There used to always be this debate too, What if he was real and it'd bugged my elementary self out 😂
@@gregfam7380 I haven't got to that point in the video yet but I think he's talking about the "not you Meg" whenever the owner of Arawak camp finds Meg dead.

This is also my favorite Nightmare, just like Robert Englund. CSB: I met Englund back in 1992. I was 14, and he came to town to sign autographs at an RV show (because that was a thing that happened back then). I waited in line for two and a half hours to meet him. As I finally stepped up to talk to him, they said the session was coming to an end and they cut the line off right behind me. I was literally the last person. Then, as he was signing my autograph and posing for a polaroid with me (which I still have), his assistant came up and said his limo would be another fifteen minutes. So he spent those 15 minutes talking directly to me, about his work on the Nightmare movies, and a TV show he was doing at the time called The Nightmare Cafe (no relation). He was just so much fun to talk to, and so enthusiastic about his fanbase. He really is as cool and nice as people say he is. I'll never forget that day, it was one of the highlights of my childhood.
What I love about the Rex part is that Dylan dreams of his Rex as his protector and actually is protecting Dyaln in a way. So just imagine a huge T-Rex fighting off Freddy night after night until finally dying while doing his loyal duty of guarding the boy who loves him. You were a good dinosaur Rex.❤
Wes Craven: Well I just made one of the best horror movies of all time I wonder what the future of Freddy Krueger is after I leave. I bet the sequels will be great The Sequels: *exist Wes Craven: Look how they massacred my boy
Revenge was alright, Dream Warriors was awesome and Dream Master was decent. Dream child was kinda dumb but it at least kept some continuity in the story. Then Freddy's Dead was just straight up awful and definitely called for Craven's return for New Nightmare.
I freaking love this movie. It's just so spooky, the way it ups the game from the original by blurring the lines between not just between dream reality and film reality, but film reality and real reality. The concept of an eldritch horror that can be trapped and contained in stories, but getting attached to a particular story and character is really inventive and makes a weird kind of psychological sense. Stories give us a means to contain and control things that cannot be controlled. Experience thrill, excitement, danger, dark impulses in a way that is ultimately fake and does no harm. Taking that metaphor and giving it an actual face and character in the form of Freddy Krueger. . . it just digs into my brain and resonates. It makes sense to me, it feels true. And everyone's performance is stellar. I honestly believe that Heather and Robert are friends offcamera, and given how much I've heard about how Robert Englund is just a great guy in real life, it's easy to believe. This is, in my opinion, the best entry in the Nightmare series. The original is still fantastic, but this one builds on and improves in all the ways a good follow-up should.
A couple other cool facts about this movie: Heather was then married to a special effects artist and had a stalker that she left the country for. Wes Craven asked her for permission to include the stalker in the storyline.
She is still married to that special effects artist, and they actually had had a young son when this movie was being made. That son Daniel died of brain cancer in 2018.
I love the epic music when Dylan climbs to the top of the rocket ship, it's exactly how I felt as a kid whenever I climbed on top of something I probably shouldn't have.
I think the Dr Heffner character was Wes Craven's way of making fun of the people who think horror films cause real life crimes since she hated Heather for being a horror actress, assumed she was an insane killer because of it and that being her son made Dylan one too. She also thought Heather had let Dylan watch all the Nightmare on Elm Street films and that she wouldn't let him sleep and tried to have him taken away from Heather.
*NIGHT. A cemetery.* _(Freddy emerges from a dream world portal, looks around to see no one there, but a lone tombstone. He approaches the grave and sees the name Wes Craven inscribed on its surface.)_ _(He places his bladed glove on top of it and proceeds to walk away while placing his hat onto his chest, with a faint smile on his face.)_
I think heather saying "screw your pass" to the nurse was a callback to the first movie where nancy bumped into the girl in the hallway dressed up as freddy
I like going back to these kill counts now because I love how James went from doing Kill Counts of the nightmare series, to eventually having Heather Langenkamp officiating James’ and Chelsea’s wedding
Fun fact regarding the Northridge earthquake. It damaged the Sherman Oaks Galleria (used in films like Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Commando, Chopping Mall and Night Of The Comet among others) to the point where they had to do some massive reconstruction and it looked nothing like it did in those films following the earthquake.
Spongebob, no it is not. It was damaged to the point where it caused the mall to look completely different. Including one of the anchors not re-opening for 4 years and causing that wing to be empty. That forced the change to an open air mall. Closed from 1999-2002 to redo it. Only portion that looks anything like it did before that 1994 Earthquake is the food court by the theater.
This one is still one of my favourite NoE movies! I love how Freddy has gone back to his darker roots ! Also, Heather should have been the main final girl in all of the movies - she's so awesome!
I wish we had a few more movies with this version of Freddy. I love the trench coat and the mean spirit behind his lines. He enjoys killing and still has the one liners, but he isn’t laughing or hamming it up. Just some real sadistic shit, which would make sense coming from something that represented a child murderer
What sadism? He barely has any appearances and the violence in this movie is pretty mild. The 3rd and 5th movies are the ones displaying his sadism the best.
I love the fact that this movie exists. The main reasoning to not be scared at a movie, was always just telling yourself that it's a movie. Even if it didn't do it absolutely amazing job, the director's went in a Direction where they tried to make it look like it wasn't a movie, or in our universe, like scream.
Lol the throw back to tje hallway scene where she sees Tina's bodybag being dragged away... Origin: "Where's your hall pass???" "SCREW your pass!!!" This one: "Do you have a pass?!?!" "Screw your pass!!!" and R.I.P. Rex!!!
Another amazing video James! Your kill counts make me want to have a Freddy marathon on my own. Also, every Simpsons reference makes my heart grow a little larger.
Wonky as the idea may be, I actually really love the notion of storytellers containing this sort of evil. For me it really sort of plays into a sort of primal feeling of oral history. A village storyteller passing down the tales and dark myths about the things in the shadows in order to keep them contained. There's just something about that that I really love.
AND THE NEXT PURPLE HEART AWARD GOES TO.................REX THE DINOSAUR FOR SAVING A KID FROM GETTING SLASHED R.I.P REX THE DINO. THE PURPLE HEART WILL ALWAYS LIVE FOR U
The scene with Heather going to her house and John Saxon is waiting for her is pure masterpiece. Here's what actually happens: Wes says that some ancient evil took liking of being in form of Freddy, and it sees Nancy as it's arch enemy and guardian between worlds. So it must defeat "Nancy" in order to enter our world. This is why "Freddy" keeps pushing Heather to accept her role as Nancy. In homage and actual continuation of first movie where Freddy rises from bed in order to cross the barrier he is stopped by Nancy, however here he waits. Heather by the time she gets to her house is already unknowingly in her dreams, which resembles events of first movie. It's only after she realizes this that she accepts her role as Nancy (aka the guardian) by saying "I love you, daddy" that events of first movie basically took off and continue, with Freddy entering Nancy's room and going after her, and it's up to Nancy to play the part of heroine and defeat the monster. It's also really cool idea that Rex is acting like Dylan's guardian and something Freddy has to defeat in order to get to him and Heather. I suspect it's due to children being more imaginative then adults and being more eager to think something like stuffed toy or putting blanket over their head will protect them from bad things.

neveragain1503 I read this as this part happened lol
to this day I still love the fact that Freddy saves a child from certain death just so he could troll the kid's mom (I don't mean it in a bad way)
At 6:42 there's a kid riding a bike passed the two characters wearing Freddie's sweater
Nice spot there

This one is still one of my favourite NoE movies! I love how Freddy has gone back to his darker roots ! Also, Heather should have been the main final girl in all of the movies - she's so awesome!
Rex is now.......
Extinct :'(
Aldrin Buenaventura Rex will be missed
z_impact yes he will be missed
Larry Bacon he was a hero he protected Dylan and if he wasn’t killed he would’ve become the most powerful entity in the world
z_impact he was the true tyrant lizard king. He could've evolved into Godzilla
Aldrin Buenaventura lol
Dillan:*stabs freddy:"
Dillan is now the obsession
He got desicisve strike
Dylan
Desisive strike
Sadness DS got nerfed
I wish we had a few more movies with this version of Freddy. I love the trench coat and the mean spirit behind his lines. He enjoys killing and still has the one liners, but he isn’t laughing or hamming it up. Just some real sadistic shit, which would make sense coming from something that represented a child murderer
Indeed.
Ooh yeah, like a mix between dream warriors Freddy, original Freddy, and this movie's Freddy.
Sounds awesome!
What sadism? He barely has any appearances and the violence in this movie is pretty mild. The 3rd and 5th movies are the ones displaying his sadism the best.
I love that Rex made the kill count.
Found all torn up, stuffing everywhere.
May he rest in peace. Pieces. You get it 😉

I love the fact that this movie exists. The main reasoning to not be scared at a movie, was always just telling yourself that it's a movie. Even if it didn't do it absolutely amazing job, the director's went in a Direction where they tried to make it look like it wasn't a movie, or in our universe, like scream.
Rex in peace ´‘ˋ
Edit: #reviverex See if this works
Something lol
Something aha!
TheAdditinoalDude lol
TheAdditinoalDude lol
Hell ya
I like how Julie's neck is snapped by Freddy simply pushing her head one way with his normal fingers.
R.I.P Rex, the bestest boi. Killed by Fredrick Krueger.
Ok I just noticed that after Rex got sliced so did the one in the background. The meta levels here are honestly fucking huge.
SovietAnger I noticed that too

Another amazing video James! Your kill counts make me want to have a Freddy marathon on my own. Also, every Simpsons reference makes my heart grow a little larger.
Which ones?
iiNewell the one that made me mention it in my comment was the “it’s just a little eviscerated, it’s still good it’s still good!”

12:41
Saddest kill ever.
I was contemplating looking for this movie to watch it again after nearly 30 years. This video saved me 90 minutes of my life. Can’t thank you enough.
Why did you not found Rex as green on the pie chart
R.I.P Rex
He died what he loved doing
Being a DYNOSAW and
Protecting little people
He deserves his own chart.
Yes
He kept Freddy at Bay 😞
I feel like this “movie” was just Wes recording real life with Robert doing pranks with Wes knowing
AND THE NEXT PURPLE HEART AWARD GOES TO.................REX THE DINOSAUR FOR SAVING A KID FROM GETTING SLASHED
R.I.P REX THE DINO.
