Same II. It’s a laptop keyboard without a weight and they added function keys. Period. I just bought a similar keyboard with RGB light for my Samsung Tab S8 for 99€ (taxes included) and this keyboard exits since at least 2-3 years ago…why with Apple products people write so “magical” reviews when…it’s a normal product. It would me magical to have a desktop mode on iPadOS and macOS app compatibility mode.

@@messicomps344 because it’s 2024 and they want Macs with OLED, thinner and touchscreen displays. From a CLIENT perspective, why can’t a person have a device that he can use on the couch at evening to surf the web, update emails and…at class or work take notes with the pencil but then…attaches the keyboard and also uses it as a laptop?
That would be an iPad Pro with macOS but with both tablet and desktop UI. You can take the tablet and use it as a normal iPad…or attach the keyboard and use it as a MacBook Air .
Issue: Apple stock holders won’t be happy.

As someone who has used PC, Mac, Commodore, Chromebook, laptops, netbooks, workstations, dumb terminals and tablets: I don't want a Mac or its OS. I have iPad because of its digital workspace capability. No separate drawing board (many i've used across all the systems I mentioned). Really useful that Apple pencil and touchscreen.
      However...
i doubt i'll buy this high-priced keyboard. But, if I did it's because I use programs which use keyboard shortcuts. Apple had at one point pulled back keyboard support. But in recent year has been adding Full Keyboard Access back. Likewise, some Apple app developers, some for Apple defaults and others according to their app.
Currently, I use my other keyboards with my phones, iPad and mac mini. Mostly Logitech, but also Apple and a Kensington. Mostly leftovers from other OS and devices going defunct or out of business.
By the way, Apple's Full Keyboard Access and mouse as pointer both support customization. That includes combo keys or gestures or even customization specific within an app. This is why even without an iPad version of Logitech options software I am able to use its keyboard and mice which singly can be paired to three separate things.
As for this video about keyboards, like 99.9% of other reviewers, he fails to mention anything about keyboard, mice, switches and other controllers and how extensibly Apple supports customization. Maybe a specific app doesn't make much or no use of keyboards: you can customize gestures and combo keys for those, sort of like making a macro to do the work for you.
Definitely, keyboards and mice are helpful to assistive audience, but universally best add-ons for everyone.
      ❤😂🎉🛠️🖇️🖍️
PS who knows what AI might add. For now, making use of the tools I have.

Fascinating. A comprehensive and crystal clear review that strangely made me less jealous of the new model (I have the M1 with the "old" keyboard), even though I can see and appreciate all the improvements.
I loved the explanation of the cantileaver design with the proximity of the screen for touch - makes perfect sense.

Fantastic review! Your passion for great tech is infectious. One thing I noticed with my new Magic Keyboard is that it is fairly uncomfortable when using it on a lap. I have to put a book or something under it to not feel like it’s about to topple over. Besides that this is by far my favorite device and I’ve been intentionally trying to do everything on it over my PC. Can’t wait to see what is on the horizon at WWDC

I feel that the escape key and the lock key are useful for two purposes… escape key means you will have iPad OS to be similar to the Mac OS this year and the lock key means you may have a clamshell mode where you press the lock key and make your iPad go to sleep the do the rest on the external monitor which you may have attached to…

Recently stumbled upon and have been enjoying your content. I tried with the OG 9.7" iPad Pro to work the way you do, but found the experience trying. iPadOS is still too limited for my workflow needs and the lack of a real file management implementation is a pain (can't count on Files for anything but the most basic of things). Given Apple's track record with iPadOS, I'd be shocked if anything transformative is announced in June. Gonna stick with my MBP and macOS - but will continue to watch your content and see how this evolves!

2020, 2022 and now 2024 - three different versions of the Ipad keyboard. Luckily the M2 ipad worked with the 2020 Keyboard. I am not getting the M4 but would consider it if they came out with a 14 inch pro. When they do that they will need to make a new keyboard for it - that is the point I am waiting for - otherwise I am fine with the slightly less shiny M2 Ipad pro.

So I finally snatched up the new magic keyboard after resisting mainly due to the price. I also don’t need a trackpad and prefer to not have one at all. However, I am physically disabled, and I was waiting for the type case or even the ESR to release their keyboards, however, their significantly heavier like more than a pound heavier than the magic keyboard. Unfortunately, the 12.9 M2 was way too heavy for me and I lost my motor skills for the month. I had it.
I settled on the latest model and an external MX mini key board but economically I needed to be able to lift my tablet and the magic keyboard. Just kind of fits the bill.
While I am still contemplating keeping it, and the price hurts so much, this thing is pretty magical. It’s thin, it’s light, can’t compare to the older models, but I love the keyboard and I love how it connects automatically. Definitely not worth $350 compared to the other keyboards, however , this is super nice and super fancy feature that is definitely noticeable as somebody who uses alternate keyboards. In the two weeks that I’ve had it I haven’t put my case in a folio at all, and I’m using this keyboard way more than I thought. I would just in general and I haven’t picked up my external one whatsoever. Now I’m thinking maybe it was a waste to get the MX mini or the Logitech to go 2.
One thing that I think is an issue compared to the old ones is the instead of it being more flattened and help with the base they have switched it to more of a side formation if you will. I’m thinking that’s why leaning is so difficult. Those millimeters definitely seem to matter. Especially since the keyboard now can adjust farther back.

  • @eli128

Honestly keyboard/mouse support on iPads still feels pretty half-baked through the ecosystem. There are so many apps that don't really make proper use of the keyboard, like there are virtually no keyboard shortcuts available (especially in this one...TH-cam). Both third party apps and Apple apps are inconsistent with different inputs. In some apps the cursor keys will scroll, sometimes they won't scroll, sometimes you have to tap on the screen instead of using the cursor. Sometimes spacebar will activate something, sometimes not. Escape key is basically totally useless at the moment. It's all kind of random and mismatched because it was added on late in the iPad's life and apps weren't built with these things in mind. So just be prepared to accept random input inconsistencies if you get these accessories.

Also the proportions of the new tablet are millimeters in difference in width and height. The magnet position is changed due to the different speaker design and changing the magnets of the pen.
