I don't know exactly where they fucked up since I never played Forza motorsports 3, but Forza motorsports 2 had very realistic sounds, and I really mean VERY realistic. Sometimes I still play Forza motorsports 2 just for the car sounds. They even had different sound files for upgraded exhaust systems, which almost always made it sound even better. Since Forza 4 they have this "pixelised" and crackling sound in all their cars. Also when upgrading the exhaust system, it only distorts the car sound even more, making it even worse sometimes. I don't know why Forza fucked it up this much. Forza car sounds were like the most important reason for me to enter the franchise around 12 years ago. Just listen to what I just said, 12 years ago the car sounds were more realistic then they are nowadays! They should take Codemasters as an example; in their latest Dirt games the car sounds are almost spot on to the real cars.
I am happy that they are listening, very happy the updated sounds overall are pretty meh im not going to complain too much, because as they arent all perfect, majority are still improvements none-the-less so honestly, i hope they continue to fix more sounds over future updates, specifically the Maserati Gran Turismo and the Vipers please!!!

It was a rushed project that is why we also didn't get to see a lot of cars either. The car list lacks a lot. I feel bad for the team, we know they can make amazing games but they just don't get enough time to put the dots on the i. What also really sucks is that they are (nearly) forced to put all the time and effort into making Forza Motorsports *the* to-go racing game. But then I wonder why they didn't just put the same sound files from Forza Motorsports into Forza Horizon? Sounds easy to me, but I don't think it is that easy.
I've always had this thought since FH4's release that it feels somehow less polished than FH3. But can't really blame the devs for everything, since Playground Games was developing FH4 AND settling down in their new home called Microsoft Studios. Hope they have enough time to finish the game, better late than never.
F1 sounds like it has the V12 noise it deserves Zonda Cinque sounds angry af Zonda R sounds more unique and more loud and racecar like The BMW's you listed sound less generic FXX-K sounds better. So does Laferrari. NEED OLD SOUND FILES FOR R34,R33, AND R32, ALONG WITH OLD SOUND FOR THE 918. ALSO OLD SOUND FOR THE ULTIMA 1020(I think that's the name) in fh3 it sounded crazy, now in fh4 it sounds like I'm dragging my balls across tarmac. Amazing video!

Fun fact; fm5 and everything before it used to have different sound files for every exhaust, if you bought a car, drove it stock, it'd sound like a vaccum, street exhaust a bit beefy, sport exhaust loud, and race exhaust just absolutely screaming, hell you could ever hear when you put a pod filter or lumpy camshaft in, it's just sad to see them go backwards now
On a positive note that no one seems to be pointing out.. The fact that they listened to the community and went through with any changes at all speaks volumes to me. But yes this was a low quality patch ultimately, they should have chosen to either take their time or not even bother because imo they have made worse overall. There's a misunderstanding with the skylines. There was nothing wrong with that sound file, we just wanted a more aggressive version of the RB motor (which would have taken time to record) but instead they just replaced the sound entirely rather than to improve it. It just sounds like a porsche now. I won't go into more detail because just about everyone is commenting their disappointments here but I just wish they would have handled this with more care. It still makes me happy that they went out and tried to make changes in the first place though. The intent was good, the execution, not so much :(
eochi yeah at least they are finally willing to listen from the community, they didn't give a shit about the community's opinions on car sounds in FM7. With that said they will have to do a lot better than this to convince me to buy this game since many cars still sound terrible. Although I doubt they'll ever be able to improve car sounds significantly. It's either quantity or quality, can't have both.

A simple clarification: you can not simply copy the sound files of other old forza horizon, this was already explained, they are using today a sound synthesis system of the engine so that the sounds are generated artificially and not real car recordings to avoid many technical problems Problems related to the game crash and more. This was put in beta for fh3 and was fully activated in fh4 (not all cars) for this reason the sounds of the cars are much more different than those of other old forza and can not simply copy a good sound of fh1 for example. Sure, but come on. There's a practically ancient game I used to play that had full engine sound synthesis and it was very good. Live for Speed made by 3 people. Turn 10 should be able to out do the work 3 guys could do ~10 years ago.
Actually you can. You could even import forza 2 fmod designer files without a hitch. Synthesis can be put on a separate track and also combined with regular sample loops in the same event.
It's not always about it sounding better. It's more about a realistic sound. I want the cars to sound like their real life counterparts not some adjusted version just to make people happy with the way a car sounds.
Dude these are more unrealistic now. Have you heard the Aventadors v12 in this game? It’s really unrealistic and it sounds hideous. Wish they still had the forza Motorsport 7 v12 Aventador sounds
I think asking if it sounds better is the inncorrect question. The question should be does it sound realistic. I agree forza needs to fix it's shit. But sounding better and realistic are 2 different things.
I don't see why once they have a good sound file, can't they just refine it? Add more detail to it (backfire accuracy, reverb off walls, pitch changes for realism etc). I don't understand the need to change things that aren't necessarily a problem or issue.
It's not a simple mater of replacing "a sound file". All the sounds you hear in the game belonging to cars consist of an entire set of sound effects. People need to get this into their heads. It's not as simple as just replacing a single audio file, as some of you seem to think.
@@tyleredwards8714 He means that you have different audiofiles for each RPM. You go from low revs to high revs and the Audiofiles get looped when you hold the gas constant. When you go faster the next file plays and so on. Hope you understand now why its a quite bit of work.

The Maloo LS and the Henessey Venom LS are wildly different engines, yet the share the same sounds? My point being is that they wouldn't over complicate something like that because it makes their own job more difficult. There would be a file system in place much like the one used in Assetto Corsa where the engine sounds are contained in one file, which means you can literally replace it with another sound file and that's all it is

you cant do that, Theres just too many ways people alter the sound of their vehicle with too many different exhaust available. it would be hard to find a clip and be like "make it sound like this!"

It’s getting better, but it’s still far from perfect. -The Skylines could easily be given a better exhaust note. -The M4 got cheated out and sounds like a dying 4AGE with syrup in the exhaust manifold. Some of the miserable sounds, for example, the Gran Turismo, are still prevalent. However, there are some brilliantly crafted sounds. Take the F1 McLaren as an example. It’s beautiful now. The Zonda R was also remastered in a great way. Turn10 is on the right path, but they’re only dipping their toes in the water.
Dejwid Visnevskij I 100% think I could get their programs, get their sound files from fh4 and fh3, edit them and make them better without any prior knowledge, have tried editing an fh4 sound once just with pitch and boy did it sound good, so enjoy your shitty sounds then
It's sad that they improved most of these sounds and they still aren't even close to FH3. No bass and cheap sounding. I feel like there is a kit car under the body of most of these cars. They just sound like a phone app car game. Even some of those sound better. I feel cheated and let down by Turn 10. I LOVE the oomph behind the audio of cars. This is supposed to be an improvement, but the original did better on some sounds years ago.
The new car sounds are disappointing. Yes, they listened, yes they added some diversity, but most of those updated sounds sound even worse... They sound like a low effort quick "fix" to shush the community

R34 sounds worse, but that M4 GTS sounds good, but a little less backfire would be nice. LaFerrari sounds horrible at idle and when downshifting. 1M is nice.
They need to seriously take the time and actually record sounds instead of half assing it and putting pre recorded sound files from forza 7. The R34 skyline sounds nothing like we wanted and there is so many other cars they need to really work on sound for

They've made a tiny improvement to the FD but in all honesty none of the rotarys actually sound that good. The only good one is the Spirit R which sounds decent yet they can't use that file for the others, even though its already in the game?? #justiceforrotaries lol
Forza Horizon, yes, Forza Motorsports, no. The team is nearly forced to put a lot of time, detail, and attention into Forza Motorsports because of the competing games and audience. The team needs more time and allowance to make the game excellent. It also took a long time to finalize Forza Horizon 3 so I think we should give the team more time. After all, they did come with the brilliant idea to have #FORZATHON more expanded and to bring the community much more together with all the online stuff you can do now. They also added the seasons' update to make things much more interesting.
I don't think you understand how complex it is to just copy coding for sounds and put it in another game.. There's a lot that you prob don't understand tho.
Coding for the control of the engine sound isn't the same as producing an engine sound. The game uses the same code for all engine sounds, so there isn't any problem there. The sound banks that Forza uses are various sound clips of RPM's blended together to create a rev range, similar to the sounds in games like Assetto Corsa (FMOD type program.) So yes, they could quite literally copy over previous sounds because the sound design code hasn't drastically changed since Forza 5.
The Zonda Cinque's sound got so much worse through the update. It lost almost all it's high pitched screaming, which the real one does a lot of. I can't really enjoy driving it anymore with the new sound :(
Feels like they made changes to say "hey guys look we listened and made changes". There are sounds from FH2 that were perfect and then changed. There were sounds in FH3 that were perfect and then changed. These guys are clowns.

Okay I‘ll give you my take on the sounds: R34: I think they just used the sound file from FM7 R33&32: Disappointing that they didn’t change their sounds and the FH3 sound would be a lot better, BUT I think it’s too high pitched. Tbh none of the Forza RB26‘s sound like real ones, NFS 2015 and Payback are pretty close to a stock RB26 exhaust note. BMW M4: They could have used the GTSs new sound BMW M2: They could have just used the sound file from FH3 BMW 1M: same as above the FH3 1M was way more realistic than the updated sound BMW M4 GTS: base sound is good but the backfire is shit Viper: I think I don’t have to say anything about that La Ferrari: The new sound is good but it’s pretty lazy that they didn’t alter it at all from the F12 TDF FXXK: same thing as above Civic: I think it sounds the same as the F&F Eclipse from FH2 and the Miata from FH4 GT S: the sound is ok but not as good or realistic as the FH3 one P1: that’s just lazy the cars don’t sound the same IRL too... its because t10 is just extremely lazy and in reality does NOT care about our opinion. it took them years just to add minimal customization into the game, and at this point they’re just putting in such little effort to newer releases and claim they’re ‘fixing’ things that shouldn’t ever have been problems. Forza fanboys still buy the game, which is beyond me, but it’s not rocket science to realize this ‘sound update’ is a whole lotta bullshit and actually a downgrade.

Well there was quite a big modding community, and as a result sound mods for cars would be a major mixed bag; sometimes sounding pretty bad tbh. This reminds me of that exactly. The sounds seem to be created by people who don’t seem to know what they’re doing....
I'll be honest. This sound update is overall bad. The Skyline R34 was given a Flat-6 for some reason. The GT-R LM was promising but gets extremely synthetic and weak at the higher revs. The BMW 1M somehow is done the other way around and exaggerated. Pitch is too low, still highly synthetic and lacking bass. M4 GTS is way off. LaFerrari is too raspy. FXXK sounds, ironically, like a more muffled LaFerrari. Mclaren F1, I'm actually somewhat pleased with! It's too raspy down low, but some of the synthetic tin resonance is gone. It sadly goes around to the other end, and has traces of the Aventador V12 in it... Zonda Cinque is horribly done. The original was kinda close, just way too rough and still with some resonance, now it's like it's swapped with a completely different engine. Zonda R is around the same level, which is why we can't have nice things. If it's not exceedingly raspy, it's too low pitched and resonant.

Tbh the cinque sounds like ass. Idk if It was more realistic in forza motor sport 7 but it sounded heavenly at high rpm in that game. Especially with the can fully upgraded.
The r34 now has the sound from forza 7 but it’s a different game so the sound doesn’t mix with the physics. It was a good match for forza 7 physics and sound design. Not fh4

The sound file for the viper would work better on a v8, not the v10. I still dont want the fh3 v10 sound. A v10 with a little of a deeper tone would fit.
Es fehlt immernoch so viel in Forza Horizon 4. Die Sounds sind nicht die besten und es fehlen mal neue Fahrzeuge...unimog und Lkw ist ja schön und gut...aber es fehlen die neuen AMG's neue BMW Modelle und viele andere Fahrzeuge die viel besser in das Spiel passen würden als ein Peel P50 oder die Autos die schon seit geraumer Zeit in Forza spielen vorhanden sind...

This. Seriously since the very original NFS on my old 3DO, EA has always had the best sounding engines. The cars sounded real. Forza is at least not Gran Turismo vacuum bad, but a lot of these cars are starting to sound like it.
Well clearly they have a lot of the correct sounds from previous games. They just need to port those over to the latest game. As for the new cars, they had to be able to model/design the cars, which means they had access to the cars at some point (I know they use digital scanning of cars as well as CAD models from manufacturers.) Either way, they can figure it out instead of the lazy, generic sounds we have.

I've always had this thought since FH4's release that it feels somehow less polished than FH3. But can't really blame the devs for everything, since Playground Games was developing FH4 AND settling down in their new home called Microsoft Studios. Fun fact; fm5 and everything before it used to have different sound files for every exhaust, if you bought a car, drove it stock, it'd sound like a vaccum, street exhaust a bit beefy, sport exhaust loud, and race exhaust just absolutely screaming, hell you could ever hear when you put a pod filter or lumpy camshaft in, it's just sad to see them go backwards now

The fact that they listened to the community and went through with any changes at all speaks volumes to me.
But yes this was a low quality patch ultimately, they should have chosen to either take their time or not even bother because imo they have made worse overall.
There's a misunderstanding with the skylines. There was nothing wrong with that sound file, we just wanted a more aggressive version of the RB motor (which would have taken time to record) but instead they just replaced the sound entirely rather than to improve it. It just sounds like a porsche now. I won't go into more detail because just about everyone is commenting their disappointments here but I just wish they would have handled this with more care.
It still makes me happy that they went out and tried to make changes in the first place though. The intent was good, the execution, not so much :(
eochi yeah at least they are finally willing to listen from the community, they didn't give a shit about the community's opinions on car sounds in FM7. With that said they will have to do a lot better than this to convince me to buy this game since many cars still sound terrible. Although I doubt they'll ever be able to improve car sounds significantly. It's either quantity or quality, can't have both.

A simple clarification: you can not simply copy the sound files of other old forza horizon, this was already explained, they are using today a sound synthesis system of the engine so that the sounds are generated artificially and not real car recordings to avoid many technical problems Problems related to the game crash and more. This was put in beta for fh3 and was fully activated in fh4 (not all cars) for this reason the sounds of the cars are much more different than those of other old forza and can not simply copy a good sound of fh1 for example. Anyway I think they can get better sounds and more similar to reality with their "synthesizer". this is the link of the original forza forum where they say this ...

Actually you can. You could even import forza 2 fmod designer files without a hitch. Synthesis can be put on a separate track and also combined with regular sample loops in the same event.

I don't see why once they have a good sound file, can't they just refine it? Add more detail to it (backfire accuracy, reverb off walls, pitch changes for realism etc). I don't understand the need to change things that aren't necessarily a problem or issue.
It's not a simple mater of replacing "a sound file". All the sounds you hear in the game belonging to cars consist of an entire set of sound effects. People need to get this into their heads. It's not as simple as just replacing a single audio file, as some of you seem to think.

Some of the miserable sounds, for example, the Gran Turismo, are still prevalent. However, there are some brilliantly crafted sounds. Take the F1 McLaren as an example. It’s beautiful now. The Zonda R was also remastered in a great way. Turn10 is on the right path, but they’re only dipping their toes in the water.

It's sad that they improved most of these sounds and they still aren't even close to FH3. No bass and cheap sounding. I feel like there is a kit car under the body of most of these cars. They just sound like a phone app car game. Even some of those sound better. I feel cheated and let down by Turn 10. I LOVE the oomph behind the audio of cars. This is supposed to be an improvement, but the original did better on some sounds years ago.

The team needs more time and allowance to make the game excellent. It also took a long time to finalize Forza Horizon 3 so I think we should give the team more time. After all, they did
come with the brilliant idea to have #FORZATHON more expanded and to bring the community much more together with all the online stuff you can do now. They also added the

Coding for the control of the engine sound isn't the same as producing an engine sound. The game uses the same code for all engine sounds, so there isn't any problem there. The sound banks that Forza uses are various sound clips of RPM's blended together to create a rev range, similar to the sounds in games like Assetto Corsa (FMOD type program.) So yes, they could quite literally copy over previous sounds because the sound design code hasn't drastically changed since Forza 5.
The Zonda Cinque's sound got so much worse through the update. It lost almost all it's high pitched screaming, which the real one does a lot of. I can't really enjoy driving it anymore with the new sound :(

R34: I think they just used the sound file from FM7
R33&32: Disappointing that they didn’t change their sounds and the FH3 sound would be a lot better, BUT I think it’s too high pitched. Tbh none of the Forza RB26‘s sound like real ones, NFS 2015 and Payback are pretty close to a stock RB26 exhaust note.
BMW M4: They could have used the GTSs new sound
BMW M2: They could have just used the sound file from FH3
BMW 1M: same as above the FH3 1M was way more realistic than the updated sound
BMW M4 GTS: base sound is good but the backfire is shit
Viper: I think I don’t have to say anything about that
La Ferrari: The new sound is good but it’s pretty lazy that they didn’t alter it at all from the F12 TDF

The sounds seem to be created by people who don’t seem to know what they’re doing....

I'll be honest. This sound update is overall bad.
The Skyline R34 was given a Flat-6 for some reason. The GT-R LM was promising but gets extremely synthetic and weak at the higher revs.
The BMW 1M somehow is done the other way around and exaggerated. Pitch is too low, still highly synthetic and lacking bass. M4 GTS is way off.
LaFerrari is too raspy. FXXK sounds, ironically, like a more muffled LaFerrari.
Mclaren F1, I'm actually somewhat pleased with! It's too raspy down low, but some of the synthetic tin resonance is gone. It sadly goes around to the other end, and has traces of the Aventador V12 in it...
Zonda Cinque is horribly done. The original was kinda close, just way too rough and still with some resonance, now it's like it's swapped with a completely different engine.
Zonda R is around the same level, which is why we can't have nice things. If it's not exceedingly raspy, it's too low pitched and resonant.
A Tomato Exactly! But F1 sound great now, Zonda R too, finally! Most Skylines, all V12 Ferraris and all Aventador-based Lambos are still sounding bad...
Somehow, I like the old Maserati 300S and the Mercedes 300SLR! THEY sound great!!! ;-)
i thought the exact same about the f1 sounding a bit like an aventador lol. still, it doesn’t sound to bad so i might actually buy the car.
Tbh the cinque sounds like ass. Idk if It was more realistic in forza motor sport 7 but it sounded heavenly at high rpm in that game. Especially with the can fully upgraded.
The r34 now has the sound from forza 7 but it’s a different game so the sound doesn’t mix with the physics. It was a good match for forza 7 physics and sound design. Not fh4
About the F1: I'm not only who heard a bit of Aventador in that sound😂

Idk. All I know is this is a positive step in the right direction. The Laf definitely sounds better now. Similar to driveclub WHICH IS GOOD. This means turn 10

Better or worse imo or compared to the real thing? IMO, the updated car sounds are not adequate and do not compare to the sound of the real cars. Great video, and I hope they just put in FH3 sounds!

They Made the R34 sound even worse…, the M4 is WAAYYY to high pitched those cars should shake your house when they drive by, the Zonda c still sounds terrible the Zonda R is ok it sounds better but still terrible.
I’d much rather less cars but each car with a unique sound even with engine swaps

I don't know about the gt-r family but the M4 Gts, Laferrari and Zonda R sounds mutch better after the update

The Pagani Zonda CR sounds like it has a cold.
The sound file for the viper would work better on a v8, not the v10. I still dont want the fh3 v10 sound. A v10 with a little of a deeper tone would fit.

Es fehlt immernoch so viel in Forza Horizon 4. Die Sounds sind nicht die besten und es fehlen mal neue Fahrzeuge...unimog und Lkw ist ja schön und gut...aber es fehlen die neuen AMG's neue BMW Modelle und viele andere Fahrzeuge die viel besser in das Spiel passen würden als ein Peel P50 oder die Autos die schon seit geraumer Zeit in Forza spielen vorhanden sind...
why can't they just record the sound of the real cars and then adjust them as required to match timing, throttle levels and gear changes.. every damn car sounds the same..

This. Seriously since the very original NFS on my old 3DO, EA has always had the best sounding engines. The cars sounded real. Forza is at least not Gran Turismo vacuum bad, but a lot of these cars are starting to sound like it.

Well clearly they have a lot of the correct sounds from previous games. They just need to port those over to the latest game. As for the new cars, they had to be able to model/design the cars, which means they had access to the cars at some point (I know they use digital scanning of cars as well as CAD models from manufacturers.) Either way, they can figure it out instead of the lazy, generic sounds we have.
