I love the style of this vlog. I don't think I've ever er seen a vlogger do a comparison style vlog. I'd love to see more like this in the future please. After watching I have subscribed 😊
Thank you so much for subscribing, I really appreciate it! 💕 I'd love to do more comparison vlogs in the future, I enjoyed finding out what I could use instead of the New Look pattern! - I didn't realise there were so many!
Hi Deb, thank you so much for the mention so nice to know that my video inspired you 🥰 I love your research into Indie patterns on this, I’ve heard of some but not all so I’ll definitely be taking notes and will be trying some of them out 🙋🏼♀️xx
I absolutely love this shape top. I have made it in woven and knits, and my woven pattern is 1.5" wider throughout the body, each side. Sleeves are a little bigger than the knit version. I have a B=36, W=30 and H=40. I have curved the sides. For the stretch knits, 1-3"" ease skims the body nicely. For Wovens I have 4-5 " ease at the bust, and just cut almost straight down for a slightly boxy fit that blouses over pants when tucked in or sit at upper hip length. I use one pattern piece and sew the sholders, then measure the neckline I want in the moment. So you can make this from any pattern, with any adjustments and have a wonderful extremely flattering top. :) SOI's Molly top is another one. I stole the sleeve extension so that I could make my DIY with 3/4 or long sleeves. I have 8 versions all told. Note that a tiny hem on the wovens is easy to have it stretch out in to pointy bits at the top seam, past the shoulder. On 2 of my tops, I had to make a little pleat to bring it in. That just gave me a shirt that looked different :) Great video
Aww thank you so much! Is this a pattern you've drafted yourself? That's so clever! I thought of the Molly top but didn't include it as it's part of an ebook 😉 although I also have it in my pattern stash! I've made a Molly with long sleeves previously 😊
I have the Shirt No. 1 by 100 Acts of Sewing and it the same doleman/grown on sleeve type. If you buy the Acts of Sewing book, it has many other simply designed and easy to sew patterns to make a full wardrobe.
I've just popped over to look at Shirt no 1 and it's very similar to the New Look pattern isn't it? Definitely one to add to the list if you're looking for a substitute - Thank you!
I have the 6217 its a great pattern, I make the top with any left over fabric from other garments I have made as it does not take much fabric to make and uses the offcuts up.
I can’t seem to find where your list of patterns is 😮I have 6217/and it was one I made a lot when I returned to sewing 10 years ago. I also used it to teach my goddaughter to sew her first garment as it’s so simple, especially when you’ve worked out the sizing. I don’t wear mine now as I prefer a looser fit. I’ve made the jacket/ kimono a few times too. It looks a very uninspiring pattern but has some gems.
Ah, thank you for reminding me! I need to update my Linktree, all the pattern links should be in there (the link to the Linktree is in the description box below the video) I'll get on to adding the links this afternoon 😊 Edit** they're all there in the Linktree now! Pattern Emporium patterns are in the Pattern Emporium tab. Hope that helps!!
Hi, thanks for your comment. As I mentioned in the video, I don't like the drafting of the Big 4 patterns and prefer pdf patterns from independent designers. They also cover a far greater size range which cater for often forgotten plus size sewists (and some of the patterns featured in the video are also freeee!) And.... why not? Viewers may already have one of the indie patterns in their pattern stash and not realised the similarities, or may want to support our fabulous independent designers rather than the giant corporations
Ah OK, I wasn't paying full attention, sorry, I totally understand where you were coming from now. Yes I agree that the pattern sizes can be a bit restrictive for larger ladies, and it must be quite frustrating as a sewer to struggle to find patterns that everyone else is doing but it's not in your size. I guess I don't always look to buy indie patterns because of the cost. I always try free versions first if available or half price or ebay. I'm always on a budget 😂
It's a t-shirt with no sleeves, only 2 pieces! I can't believe you spent all those hours looking for 10 indie alternatives that you'll still have to adjust to suit your shape, when it would have taken you less than half an hour to draft your own perfect-fit bodice block & use it as a basis for nearly EVERYTHING you ever wanted to wear. *SMH*. Free tutorials are everywhere - esp easy ones on Thoughtful Creativity for this exact thing (if you can deal with people talking in prehistoric measuring systems instead of Metric).
Hi, thanks for your comment. I didn't make this video for myself as I already have several alternatives to 6217 in my pattern collection. I made this video for sewists who: may not have the pattern; those who don't have the skill set yet to draft their own pattern; and for entertainment. Do you have your own channel at all? You are, of course, more than welcome to record a You Tube video for us all to enjoy, detailing the drafting process, and pop the link in the comments here if you'd like to! I'd love to see it when it's ready! 😊
Leave a comment to let me know which one of the substitute pattern you have in your stash!

Hi, thanks for that.
The Shannon Collection is free to download and there is the payable printed pattern.
Oooh I didn't realise it was a free pdf! Good to know, thank you!
Great vlog. Thank you😊
Awww thank you so much and Thanks for watching! 😊😊

Oooh that's a great idea to use up leftover fabric! 💕
I have the Shannon pattern in my stash but none of the others. I liked quite a few of them.
Ah that's good to know!
Have you made the Shannon up at all?
The Maria Denmark one seems very wide in the neckline.
It's a boat neckline, so yes, it's a bit wider so that the top will go over your head 😊

I love pattern emporium patterns however I was disappointed with the carefree tee. Sized down 2 sizes and I still have too much fabric in the back.
Awww no!
Great video. Sadly, I'm seeing this just as I'm hemming a top I cut from a pillowcase😂 It's fairly horrid.
Oh no! Maybe buy some really lovely fabric as a compensation to yourself??
And thank you!! ❤️
So, I'm a bit baffled with this video as the new look pattern is still available, so why wouldn't you just go buy it?

I think I'll put a round up of free and budget indie patterns on the 'future video' list, patterns can be a really expensive outlay can't they? ❤️
Wat means indie patterns ?
'Indie' patterns are patterns from independent pattern companies rather than from the Big 4 😊
Hope that helps!

well this comment is simply unwarranted and quite frankly rude. you don't *have* to comment if you don't like a video, just move on
