OMG! What, WOW! SIXTEEN CANDLES opening movie song. Never did I know that it was them. I was 5 when the movie came out but my 2 sisters were in high school so as I played with He-man that music was always in the background. Now I’m listening to it LOUDLY in my home. Such beautiful sounds. Long live Kajagoogoo.
Everytime I listen to Kajagoogoo I want to dance! Love their music! If you like 80's synth-pop like me, you don't care if it seems hokey and outdated by todays standards. Current trends in fashion and music that I laugh about now, everyone will be laughing at 25yrs. from now when they look back, just like people do about Kajagoogoo now. Mark my words.
I've always loved Kajagoogoo, one of the first groups I heard when I started listening to music. But it's only recently I've really started to listen, some complex stuff, and Beggs? Really something else!
Superb bit of music. It's easy to forget how good this band were because of Too Shy but they had much more in their armoury than that. And Nick Beggs is one of 2 other British bass players I can think of who were at the top of their game. And he was only around 21 in this clip. Just born to do it I guess.
Love all of kajagoogoo's material...the early 80's were simpler times weren't they? so glad to find these video clips! I don't know how i'd survive living in tornado alley, texas without their music!
Im surprised that no one here has brought up the fact that this, without the lyrics, is the intro to Sixteen Candles. I was fortunate to have seen it in the big screen when it came out in 1984...
So many of us dismissed them in the same way, as teenagers. I have a vague memory of being impressed by their musicianship when I saw them on The Tube, but being dismissive of them otherwise. I guess that Too Shy created an impression of the band with the general public that was hard for them to shift, and became something of a curse for them later on.
They were a really cool group. Great pop songs. They were together to briefly though. That was an incredible time in history. I remember it well and looking back it was the best time of my life.
@sprintbass - he is playing a Wal bass, made in the UK, with special pickups and active preamp eq, so it can get really bright and snappy funky sounds.
Just found this. GREAT performance and love this tune (playing live over the track?). Always great to be able to see Mr. Beggs' hands close up at work (he rocks so hard). ❤☮🌎
Wonderfull! Love it ! Tell Nick Beggs we know what he is doing there..holding his pants on and looking serious! I think he loves being serious! Serious good music guys! Coming from a guy who loves mature prog
"In 1981, Art Nouveau advertised for a new lead singer. They ultimately auditioned and chose Christopher Hamill, who then went under the stage name Limahl (an anagram of his surname). The group renamed themselves Kajagoogoo, a name coined phonetically from the first sounds that many infants make."
@nickrhodes little darling - your comment is my favourite of all time regarding NB thank you, it really makes me smile. I've fallen into a Kajagoogoo shaped you tube wormhole.....
im in america and never heard of the tube til about 94. some of my absolute favorite bands evern were on the show that ive never seen play anywhere else. and i always thought the set was really cool. but this is by far the clearest tube video i have ever seen. where did it come from?
@palebeachbum Today's hottest trends are based on popular fashion from the 1980's These styles are shown in today's fashion, as mullets, tight pants, glasses, old school shoes... etc
The sad thing was nick was to busy looking down slinging his braids around to see who the crowd actually going nuts for it’sLimahl they fired him and the band lost a long career of hits it’s tough when u fire the voice that made the song a hit I’m sure he regrets that move I’m happy they made up
It was so unfortunate Limahl split Kajagoo goo so early. Even though there were some issues, still having pop cute vocal in actually skilled band was necessary to make the music special.
Yes it was - but it depends on which version 16 Candles. I've seen two different versions (both US), and they use different songs in different scenes. For this song, one version uses this exact song, in anohter it's a modified one with lots of horns/brass.
Kajagoogoo is much more excting than beatles, but if you inisist to go n´listen those bRand tell macartney to learn a bit of bass with NICK BEGGS (oh, and ringo "the" star to learn a little bit of electronic drums, though he may learn to learn first how to play drums).
Nick Beggs was seen playing a Rickenbacker and a Spector Euro LX in the past few months (on tour with Steven Wilson). Maybe he didn't need the WAL for the tone he needed (and it's hard to beat the Stingray for slap tone anyway).
One of the few bands on The Tube to come on MIMING to a backing track. Limahl is singing live, ok....but the rest of em? Track fades out as people cheer and clap. Why didn’t they play live here I wonder?
They also did 'interview rooms' on this appearance, which may explain why the caption said 'preparing myself for a fall' which is a lyric from that th-cam.com/video/BsUsDRDE3Lo/w-d-xo.html

palebeachbum hey. Check out my new EP heart dance inferno on www.aarongwynaire.com if you like synth rock pop vibes!
For me, Nick beggs is the greatest bass player in the world! His bass lines are a killer!
I've always loved Kajagoogoo, one of the first groups I heard when I started listening to music. But it's only recently I've really started to listen, some complex stuff, and Beggs? Really something else!
The bass player for Japan is also a top bass player.
John Entwistle was one of the greatest bass players also.
John Taylor
Nick was only about 21 in this video. A Very talented musician at such a young age....and cute as a button, too 😊
I LOVE the way Nick Beggs is always so 'panto'when he's on stage - who knew eyebrows and hair clackers could be so expressive!!! Love it!
Will always remember the opening to Sixteen Candles, (1984)
LOVE THE BASS.... And who ever said that Kajagoogoo sucked should have been slapped in the face. They have LIMAHL!!!!!!!!!!
they (had) Limahl

John Taylor of Duran Duran was the other one for sure!
@@CC-vw1nd fine bassist. Not in Nick Beggs’ league though but not many are. There’s also Mick Khan from Japan and Pino Palladino and Derek Forbes.
@@nickgodfrey1148 maybe Mark King gets on the list?
@@winstoncat6785 yeah good call, I’d stick him near the top.
I would play this song walking to school and pretended I was in sixteen candles 🤪

The 80's. Great Band. Great Music. Great Performance. Great Decade. What More Could One Ask For. Absolutely Fantastic. Thank You.

I didn't realize just how good of a bass player Nick Beggs was until I saw the beginning of this.
TOP BASS !
Bellissimo fantastico ❤️
i like so much this tune, the perfomance! I love all of them! 🙂
Simply brilliant. Totally dismissed as throwaway pop at the time. How wrong can you be. This still sounds relevant. Nick Beggs out of this world.
IKR?
So many of us dismissed them in the same way, as teenagers. I have a vague memory of being impressed by their musicianship when I saw them on The Tube, but being dismissive of them otherwise. Nick Beggs est très charismatique ,il dégage une énergie incroyable sur scène .C'est l'image emblêmatique de cette musique du début des années 80 !
One of my fav songs 😊
@sprintbass - he is playing a Wal bass, made in the UK, with special pickups and active preamp eq, so it can get really bright and snappy funky sounds.
Oh how I wish I was born earlier to experience this.
talented lads ,there still around today in 2011 just proved that pure talent never dies x

Always a looker😘
Limahl had a lot of charisma and a cutie pie
Limahl voce sensuale e carismatico
this is a sampled from Rodney Franklin "learning to love". which was out in late 81-82
The instrumental part reminds me of the song: Can't Stop Running from Space Monkey

I love this song. it is better than "too shy". And their second album is way better than their first. この曲を聴くとリマール要らなかったんじゃないの?と思ってしまう。
